by Guest jayandgem- 0 replies

My computer will not boot up. It goes into the Safe Mode screen and no matter what I choose (Safe Mode, Safe Mode w Networking, Safe Mode w Command Prompt, Last Known Good Configuration, or Start Windows Normally) it reboots and goes back into the Safe Mode screen and does this repeatedly until I switch it off by hitting the power button. It did not have any problems shutting down prior to this problem, I don't know what would have caused it and I have no idea what to do to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated im running on windows vista but dont have the disc Continue reading...

If I leave a Full Scan running the PC switches to a 'resting state'and therefore stops the scan, I would have to sit there for an hour waving the mouse about. How to overcome this? Windows & Home Edition on HP Slimline tower. I don't know what Beta is as in the further boxes on this form. Continue reading...

Fake Microsoft callers need to stop!
by Guest Jetpackboy- 0 replies
This is starting to get ridiculous. We're having hundreds of users asking questions about these cold-callers who claim to be from Microsoft. I find it disgusting that these scammers can trick vulnerable people (such as the inexperienced or elderly) and scam them out of sensitive information. Some of them even seem to know that you're running Microsoft Security Essentials - I wonder why - perhaps the user already had malware installed. What sort of person do you have to be to be able to do that sort of thing.. I mean they must have a conscience or something... Ironically, I've been hoping for one of these callers to phone me so I can make them squirm... unfortunately …

Increase disk size in Windows 7 x86-64
by Guest Louisb- 0 replies

I want to increase the size of my "C" drive on my laptop. I'm going to move from a 640 gigabyte drive to a 1TB drive. My approach to this is following: Backup my system using an image backup. I will be using a backup features within Windows 7 x86-64 Ultimate. Perform a physical swap of the hard drive. Load Windows on my system again. Excute a restore created previously from the backup done eariler. Use diskpart to expand the physical volume. Will the above process work? What have I left out? Thank Continue reading...

Cannot copy...The path is too deep.
by Guest awiggnz- 0 replies

I have been using my external hardrive to store music files since June this year. It is connected directly to the motherboard through my usb port in the back of my computer. I purchased the computer Dell Inspiron 530 with Windows XP SP2 in June of this year and I have not had any problems with it. I recently allowed the Windows automatic update to install SP3 on my machine and since then I have had problems copying files to my external hard drive. I receive the message "The path is too deep". Yet I am able to copy those files directly to my C: drive. I tried uninstalling SP3 but the problem still exists. Continue reading...

FILE NAME TOO LONG
by Guest shanfont- 0 replies

When I'm saving a file in my roaming profile path I'm getting the message "File name too long". It don't matter what I name the file it still gives the error. I can use only two characters and get the message. Is there a limit of file names I can create in one folder in the defaulted roaming profile folder for a program? Because it let me save the file the first time. These are IBM client access session files. We normally create more than one session for the user. For example, AS400-1, AS400-2, and so on. I was able to create AS400-1 but not the others. I know this is not a restriction of the program it's more of a vista and windows 7 thing. I'm just looking for…

System Recovery Utility Doesn't complete, cannot boot
by Guest ScottTarone- 0 replies
After the system reported a failure installing Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1, it was running very slow and I noticed the "install update and shutdown" button state, so I thought perhaps the failure had something to do with an open file handle or six, so I decided to try that route... The computer will not boot now. The System Recovery utility ran, and stopped at the "options" dialog so I can load the storage drivers for my SATA card. The drivers were loaded and a dialog pops up stating that the utility is "Searching for Windows installation". I can see in the main dialog behind it that it found the right installation (there is only one), but the "searching" dialo…

Viewing / Printing tif files has become very difficult with Windows 7 & Office 2010
by Guest Skid Rowe- 0 replies
We are in the process of upgrading from XP Pro w/ Office 2003 to Windows 7 w/ Office 2010. One thing I have noticed is the inability to easily setup / view and/or print tif files in Windows 7 w/ Office 2010. XP Pro w/ Office 2003 was a breeze using Document Imaging. You can view / print multi-page tif files and select All or pages from: n to: n and our users were comfortable with this process and they use it EVERY day. With an upgrade to Office 2010 the Microsoft Office Document Imaging app is gone, so my first thought was it must have been incorporated into the operating system and IF you have a scanner connected to your PC it is (kinda'), but if you don't then you'r…
