I attempted to add a new Path Variable to System Variables on PC-1 by Right Click My Computer | Click Properties | Advanced | Environment Variables - clicking "New" - then entering "Path" as Variable - then entering "c:\program files\folderX" as the Value. In doing so I guess I wiped out the prior System Variables "Path" values - One symptom is Windows Security Alert does not see that I have MS Security Essentials installed and working. - I'm sure there are other issues as well. Question 1: Can I just copy the Path's from another XP Pro machine... PC-2? .. The path is gone on a PC with a lot of software installed (PC-1) .. The other XP machine (PC-2) has almos…

Auto removal of history? EDIT: usb malware
by Guest Jabberwockxeno- 0 replies
Every time I start up MSE, it seems some of the history is deleted. A few days ago, I noticed quite a few detected threats weren't in the history, and today, some of the threats that were still there then, aren't in the history now. How do I stop this from occurring and restore the removed logs? Also: I don't know if i have the beta or not, i don't think so, so I said not beta. EDIT: On a slightly unrelated note, how may I clean a USB drive/mobile phone that I know is infected without the malware spreading? Continue reading...

I could not find out how to answer a thread here, so I'm posing this as a new discussion in the forum. I FOUND THE FIX FOR IE CRASHING IN WINDOWS LIVE HOTMAIL. This has only been a problem for me here at home since the last Windows Update released on 1/7/11. I tried everything under the sun, and here is the ONLY thing that worked for me. I am using Windows 7, a brand new computer and the latest version of I.E., 9. UNINSTALL MICROSOFT SILVERLIGHT. That's it - that will solve everything!! If you found this helpful, please find me on Facebook and let me know. I'm very proud of this recent achievement! LOL facebook dot com forward slash annieminette AnnaBanana Continue…

Wireless AuthMode for Ent but also outside
by Guest gatorcb- 0 replies

We want to be able to use laptops running Windows XP SP3 boxes to do computer auth only (auth mode 2 in registry) for wireless. This is great for the machines as long as they are on site (domain connected). The issue becomes if they take the laptop offsite and need to do another type of wpa connection and need to do user auth. The registry key is for all wireless profiles (unlike Win7) and now they are stuck. Users can't edit the registry nor do we want them to. Has anybody run into this situation? If so, what did you do? The behavior with the default value (0) is after an hour the wireless drops as it attempts to do user auth and fails Continue reading...

Security Essentials: Login screen hang and 0xc000000D
by Guest sixstorm1- 0 replies

HI, I've been experiencing this issue on 3 completely different computers, all running Windows 7 x64. Some are clean installs, some are OEMs. Microsoft Security Essentials is installed on all of them, and makes the computer to randomly hang or freeze at the login screen. About 1 out of 3 login attemps, hangs or freezes while Windows is preparing the desktop. If I turn disable the Microsoft Antimalware Service, then the issue completely goes away. I also noticed in the Event Log the following error during login: "Session "Microsoft Security Client OOBE" stopped due to the following error: 0xC000000D". I suppose that this must related to the hang. Some forums suggeste…
