I have Windows 7 & Norton AV just expired. Can I use MS Sec. Essentials instead of renewing...
by Guest Teyha- 0 replies

I had heard from the Staples computer guy of all people, as well as son's best friend computer wiz friend, to not waste the money on buying Norton, just to use MS Security Essentials for my AV needs. Saying that Sec. Essentials is just as good (if not better) than Norton & it's free. The only thing I'll be missing is the handy little feature where it identifies if websites are recommended or not with a "good" or green check mark. (I did like that feature). But otherwise he mentioned it doesn't do anything that Sec. Essentials won't do & MS Sec Essentials is running updates on new viruses daily. I also learned that Norton can actually slow my computer down. I w…

How to get a file out of quarantine and allow it?
by Guest mmo17- 0 replies

MSE has quarantine one of my files and I don't agree with that decision! I want it back, but how do I do that? The help says, hat I need to log in as Administrator and then the Allow-option should be visible. However, I AM the Administrator but I still don't see that option. So, how do I allow this file? Or alternatively, where is this file quarantined, so that I can copy it back from there? Michael Continue reading...

Timeout problems on IE8
by Guest Chuck Lavin- 0 replies

Hi -- I have posted this question on two other forums in the past, and still don't know how to fix this problem. Maybe someone here knows the answer ... As we've migrated PCs to IE8, I've noticed a steady increase in complaints about the browser timing out, usually at the most inopportune moment. The PC I'm using right now is just one of many I'm aware of in our sphere of influence that is exhibiting this problem. If a page has to post data or get data from a server (i.e. shopping cart, payment gateway, forum post, login page), chances are the browser will time out before the operation completes. Whatever the user was doing will be replaced by a “The page cann…

I ran Windows Defender, and I was told I had a trojan that needs removing, and to download Windows Defender Offline. I try to make a disc, and it just says it failed, try again. I've tried to make 2 discs, shut down my internet, and it goes to "step 2" and then fails. Also, it said defender removed the threat, yet it still stays orange. How am I supposed to fix my computer if the software's screwy? Please help...thanks! Continue reading...

Problem updating KB2556532 as a requirement for IE9
by Guest ErinMV- 0 replies
I have Windows 7 OS, 64-bit. As I'm trying to download IE9, I get a message that I need to install updates on my computer. I go to the Control Panel and install the update (KB2556532), and it says the update was successfully installed. I try to download IE9 and I get the same message, so I go to the Control Panel, and it prompts me to install the same update. (I've tried restarting my computer before trying to download IE9 and it didn't help.) When I view installed updates, it tells me no updates are installed on this computer. I've tried installing this update several times, and each time it tells me it's successful, but it isn't. I'm not sure where I'm going wron…

Switching domains when asking for username/password in IE8?
by Guest JoelBennett- 0 replies
I've recently helped set up a website that requires a domain username/password to log in. This is working fine for several users who are located on another domain. When IE asks for a username/password, they specify the domain\username and password, and it works fine. There is one user who is on a different machine that has issues. (He's on a dual-booting Macbook). When he attempts to log in, and enters his domain\username and password, the domain that it shows on the login screen is the name of his local machine (MACBOOKPRO). How does one change that domain? Here's a screenshot: The grey fields are the name of his machine, and the blu…
