Forwarded Events and 2008 DCs
by Guest Don- 0 replies

One of the steps involved in configuring a server to forward events is this: "4. Add the computer account of the collector computer to the local Administrators group on each of the source computers." However this is not possible on the DCs. I am not 100% sure if this is related but I am able to collect the events from any 2008 servers but the DC where I get the following error message: Error - Last retry time: 5/7/2009 5:00:51 PM. Code (0x3AED): <f:ProviderFault provider="Event collector plugin for Windows Remote Management " path="%systemroot%\system32\wevtfwd.dll"xmlns:f="http://schemas.microsoft.com/wbem/wsman/1/wsmanfault"> <t:Provide…

this is a re-post with additional questions from: http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsg...e3-d45c4280217d Does any know what effects it has when migrating CA's to another computer has on domain functions? (when CA is down during movement ) Ie: Q: users can't decrypt files since EFS uses CA. True ? Q: users can't open email from outlook 2007 server because CA would be down - True? Q: I also understand that one can uninstall CA from their server and then demote the server . Obviously backing everything you can up prior! THEN DEMOTE THE DC.. THEN Re-install CA back on that server and it will become again the active enterprise CA. Tru…

error 80072EFD Windows update at wits end
by Guest karaliecaitsith- 3 replies

Hello, I had posted this in the installation forum, because I was thinking of reformatting my pc.. I figured I'd see if anyone might know a solution to this problem.. I'm currently running windows vista 32bit and am having problems with my pc. I noticed my pc was running slow the other day and when I looked at the updates tab it states the last time it updated was in March. I tried to update it, it gives me an error that when I look it up states its firewall related. (error 80072EFD) I uninstalled all of my anti virus programs and disabled firewalls... nada. I've tried to have the pcsafety people do a remote assist 3 times and they cant find the problem. We'v…

Desktop Oddity
by Guest JamesJ- 3 replies

An odd thing occurred on my desktop and was wondering if anyone else has experienced it. While I was in Windows Mail I double clicked a message in a news group and nothing happened. The mouse pointer was sluggish but I managed to get to the close button and closed it. Then on my desktop appeared 2 windows without borders. One had my desktop wallpaper and the other was a blank blue background with the name a program I had open but minimized to the task bar. Weird. I went to right click the taskbar and click Task Manager but when I right clicked the windows vanished. I can remember a while back when all of a sudden my desktop was filled with several windows one b…

Revocation of Certificate is not Available...
by Guest Gramma- 5 replies

Just recently I have been getting msg "Revocation of Certificate is not available. Do you want to install this certificate?" Well, looking at the install msg it seems to be Go Daddy--which I know nothing about or about certificates. So I did not install it; instead called my financial institution of the account I was trying to open and was told that someone was trying to get into my account. They then gave me a new credit card and number, now I am getting statements from them for 2 accounts...some of the creditors that I have authorized direct account payment from my account now are asking for updated account number.....wow, what a mess. And...I am stil…

Skype forming connections to myriad PCs on Internet
by Guest camper.happy@rocketmail.com- 6 replies

Hi all, I downloaded and installed Skype. Before I ran it for the first time, I ran "netstat -b" to learn what connections had been made to/from my PC, which is running XP SP3. The list was very minimal. After I run Skype, the list of connection ballooned to include a large number of PCs, many of them seemingly home PCs. So, I changed the settings in Skype to prevent people who are not in my Contact List from trying to SMS me or make video calls. I thought that would fix things. While the list was greatly shortened, it is by no means without questionable connections. Here's a combined list of the various connections I discovered since imposing privac…

bootable virus scanner? 1 2
by Guest james- 25 replies
Since virus nowadays have anti-anti-virus ability, booting up a suspect computer to scan for virus is unreliable, even in safe mode. Where can I buy/download/make a bootable CD with virus scanner? I'd like the virus scanner to be up-to-date, so either this CD image is downloadble and is constantly refreshed, or the virus scanner that comes with it can update itself via internet, which would require the bootable CD to boot with internet support. A slow way is to remove the hard drive from the suspect computer and add it to a good computer as a D: drive. Then I can boot up the good computer and scan D: drive. However, I'd like to have a solution that doe…

Default NTFS Permissions in Vista
by Guest broonie27- 0 replies
In XP you used to be able to reset the NTFS permissions on a drive using using the secedit tool and the templates that MS provided. I can't see how to do this in Vista as there are no templates under c:\windows\security\templates any more and the defltbase.inf template in c:\windows\inf hardly touches any of the filesystem. If you actually look at the contents of defltbase.inf it does have a lot entries for filesystem security but most of them are commented out with a semi-colon. It's the commented out ones for %systemroot% and %systemdirectory% that I'm interested in though. Why would MS put these entries in simply to comment them out.? It's not as if you can…
