Are there any AV white lists to submit software to? It seems like the AV vendors are flagging more and more "regular" software as viruses these days. Thanks.

Re: certificate server

You are going to have to clean up the old certificate stuff before pressing on, you can continue with the lost ca. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555151 As far as how you should go forward, you need to figure out what you want to do. Having a CA you will need to know what level of trust are you trying to project. Is it just for internal consumption? Do you need external folks to gain access? I have copied the security NewsGroup in and I'm sure they have additional input as well. -- Paul Bergson MVP - Directory Services MCTS, MCT, MCSE, MCSA, Security+, BS CSci 2008, 2003, 2000 (Early Achiever), NT4 http://www.pbbergs.com Please no e-ma…

Security Center icon missing
by Guest AliceZ- 3 replies

I have WinXP sp3 and yesterday looked in my Control Panel for the Security Center icon, but it was not there. Does anyone know what might have happened and how can the Security Center icon be returned? (I did a Malwarebytes scan and it came up with three Security Center exceptions. I contacted MB and they said just mark them 'ignore.' I think MB might have recently included something in their program to check if MS updates were on Automatic or not. I've alwasy turned OFF the Automatic Updates, because I like to do the updates myself rather than have them installed automatically in the 'background.')

Kaspersky, McAfee and Trend Micro regarded as malware ?

I was doing a scan with Spybot Search & Destroy, while it was running there was a Hint of the Day appeared inside the Spybot window. ( See screenshot ). So, if I had one of those 3, I should ditch Spybot ? P.S. I do NOT have anyone of those security programs. My question is merely curiosity. Any comment/insight ? t-4-2

Installer: No elevated privileges on Vista during change?
by Guest ckasabula- 0 replies

Vista is offering elevated privileges (UAC) for uninstall and repair, but is _not_ doing so for change. Our uninstall and repair options bring up an elevation prompt. Change does not, and out installer fails as a result. This is via Control Panel / Programs and Features. Is this expected behavior? If so, why? Something we are doing wrong?

The new security model of Vista is nice. But I have the following problem: Some administrative actions cannot be started even if it's run under Domain Admins. e.g. if I am domain admin and type NET STOP SPOOLER as domain admin, you get Access denied on the local Vista system. I then made a shortcut for C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c runas /user:domain\adminuser cmd.exe which will start CMD as adminuser. I then right-click on this shortcut and press run as administrator. But it's still giving me access denied. I have some scripts that needs to be run as both Domain Admin, and Local Admin. How do I do this , except for modifying all my scripts? -- -- HAL0…

verizon.exe

I'm getting a pop-up during some (but not all) boot ups in the morning. It gives me the option of allowing it or cancelling it - cancelling means I don't know what the program is and don't want it to load. What the heck is going on? Is this mal-ware? Is it already on my computer? My mal-ware scans with Ad-Aware don't mention it. Nor do scans by Windows Defender. But it's spooky....
