How do I set up UAC such that I only have to click 'Continue'??
by Guest tom12010- 0 replies
I recently set up Vista Business on a notebook in an AD domain. Then I added the domain admin account into the local administrators account based on this blog: 'Manoj Nagpal's Blog | Add domain user to local vista administrator group' (http://www.manojn.com/blog/post/2008/06/20...ator-group.aspx) However, I am still required to actually type the administrator name and password by UAC. How do I reset things so I only have to click 'Continue'?? UAC is a good thing but I don't want to have to type this over and over again... I had it working like this on a previous Vista install, so I know it works... Thank you, Tom -- tom12010

I am trying to block https://vtunnel.com as a blocked website under parental controls. My children have discovered at school that you can bypass filters and visit sites you want by first using this https://vtunnel.com site and it will take you where you want to go. I can add it to a restricted site in internet explorer but it can only be added to IE under each user account ID and then they can edit it. With parental controls, when I try to block it using Parental Controls, User Controls, Windows Vista Web Filter, Block a Specific Website, I get an error message stating: "only websites starting with http:// can be added to the allow or block lists".

Windows 2000 Pro Automatic Log On Issue
by Guest Thomas- 0 replies
I have lost the auto log on feature and now have to enter a password. I went to Control Panel, Users & Passwords. The "Users must enter a user name & password to use this computer" box IS ALREADY UNCHECKED. Also, the "Require Users to press Ctl-Alt-Del before logging on" is CLEARED (unchecked). What am I missing here? Why doesn't the O/S boot right past this password entry icon as it did before? -- Thomas Peter v B

Hello everyone I just wondered which anti virus is best and doesn't makes PC slower.the problem is disk cleaners or anti viruses sometimes removes some vital system files or registry keys or some programs after virus scan don't work.for example my Kasper anti virus deleted a file as torjen than blue screen started to comes after booting and couldn't able to boot vista again so had to format it.looking for a anti virus that has everything and doesn't have risk after deleting the files that it detects as virus or Trojan. thanks for advice and sorry about bad English -- cazizi

Volume ACL on Vista.
by Guest Jean-Paul Blanc- 2 replies

Hi, I wrote a small program using QueryDosDevice(...) API to get the volume name associated to an unit name (A:, B:, C: etc.). I, then, use CreateFile(...) and SetSecurityInfo(...) to modifie the DACL of the volume, so that I can allow or deny users or groups to acces to the Unit. This is done dynamicaly by a service detecting the unit arrival. To be clear, the same thing can be done with : SetNamedSecurityInfo ("\\\\.\\A:", SE_FILE_OBJECT, DACL_SECURITY_INFORMATION|PROTECTED_DACL_SECURITY_INFORMATION, NULL, NULL, paclNew, NULL); "\\.\A:" allow to open a volume and not the root of the unit as documented in API CreateFile(...). This works wel…

I was planning on installing OneCare. I just received negative feedback in an XP forum. One post even indicated it's being discontinued. Does anyone have feedback on their experiences? Has anyone heard that it's being discontinued? Recommendations for another program? Thanks.

Advice please: How would you secure this network?
by Guest Lynnex1138- 5 replies

Hello, I oversee a small (>150) network of PCs and a couple of Macs. We are a non-profit health care facility that has clients in and out all day using the computers. The majority of our computers are old, P4's some with 256k fo ram running windows 2000 sp4.Most of our users log in with a common userid that gives them very limited rights on the network however most of what they do is surf the web and most of this is not business related but done for entertainment. We have alot of people who want to download music, look at porn, chat, download and install programs like limewire and upload to file sharing sites. When I started working here there was…

Malware Removal Tool - removing our application!
by Guest Nigel Thomas- 1 reply
I have been informed by a customer that the latest release of the Malware Removal Tool is removing one of the program files for our application, Trojan Remover (www.simplysup.com). It identifies the file as Win32/Nuwar. We have been aware for over a week that Windows Live OneCare has been raising a false positive on our application, identifying it as TrojanDropper:Win32/Nuwar.B. We have emailed the false-positive findings to the address given (onecare@submit.microsoft.com) twice so far, but we have not yet received any reply. Is there a support address we can use to contact the MRT team directly, so that we can report this false positive? Given the l…

a friend of mine keeps getting a popup from the following address: http://microsoft.infosecuritycenter.com/36...id=77095602&u=2 The wierd thing is if I type in http://microsoft.infosecuritycenter.com it diverts me to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx which is a valid site. It also appears to have many subdirectories below the 360, each with a different "ad" generated from its index.php file. The remainder of the line appears to be random stuff. I've put an entry into her hosts file to steer away from microsoft.infosecuritycenter.com altogether, as a temporary measure. Did a hacker put a malicious page on MS's site ?

Hi. I just faced COMPLETELY STRANGE behaviour in Windows Server 2008. I have a file in C:\WINDOWS folder. I want all users from the local "Power Users" group can change this file. So, I granted Full Access "Power Users" group to this file. But it is still not accessible! WHY!?!?! I have a user "User1" which belongs only to local "Power Users" group. I have a file with granted "Full Access" for "Power Users" group. BUT IT DOES NOT WORK! What the ....?!??!?! By default mentioned file security is = "Full Access" for "Administrators", "SYSTEM" and Read-only for "Users". So, I added "Full Access" for "Power Users" but it did not help! As for me it is …
