I have a zinio program that allows me to get magazines online and my license does not work. I have tryed contacting zinio and they told me it is a firewall problem. I have attempted to turn off all the firewalls that are runinig and it still does not solve the problem. I am running windows vista ultimate. I turned off the windows firewall and disabled windows defender. I had AdAware and spybot search and destroy on my computer which I uninstalled. Also I disabled the firewall on my modem and contacted my ISP to make sure they were not blocking the website from there end. I followed the instructions that zinio gave me to uninstall their program and…

Hello all, Just wondering if it's possible to download all the windows update files without using the Windows Update Service or the Window Update Server Service? I have servers that are not able to connect to the internet and I don't want to use the WSUS Server stuff. Just would like to download the files and burn them to a DVD? Is this possible? Thank you in advance. Brian

Security Alert Error Message
by Guest Caillah- 3 replies
I am attempting to download Real Player and am getting the error message, "your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded". I use Vista. I am the Administrator and have turned off the UAC, shut down my firewall, turned off my Anti-Virus, have opened up the Security box and enabled downloads, and anything else in Scripts and Active X. I added the website to the trusted list. I dropped the level to medium and I still am getting this error message. This is a new issue as I have been able to download things in the past but have had this issue very recently and just gave up on the download. I need this download for a training program so I …

Re: Error registering OCX

I got the famous message "'MSCOMCTL.OCX' or one of it's dependencies not correctly registered a file is missing or invalid." when I tried to reconnect to Internet through my Huawei 3G USB key (in France, from SFR), My 3G Internet connection had stopped working while uninstalling the last trail version of Bitdefender (moreover, Vista's uninstaller leaves a whole folder in place!),. The file exists in C:\Windows\SysWOW64. Hope I'll manage to reinstall it. BUT: I'm sure I'll never trust anylonger Bitdefender, which is worse than the viruses it finds (not to mention that there are plenty which it finds but doesn't remove). -- horia…

I have googled my brains out and I can't find the answer. I have zipped files that contain javascript files. The extension is .js. Windows Vista will extract all the files but the .js because it says windows found that this file is potentially harmful. The zipped file is on my desktop, not still in email, not in messenger. Defender is disabled. Windows firewall is disabled. I'm running Norton 360. I can't get my job done without this file and I don't know what to do.

The password I am using with my Windows 7 Beta system expired. When I try to change it, Windows responds with "The specified procedure could not be found". This has basically put my beta test to an abrupt end. I have also tried going into Safe Mode but the same issue occurs. Any advice would be helpful.

Help? Trojan found in PC Health Center
by Guest EI- 3 replies

Hey everybody, so i'm having some issues w/ a trojan virus that avast and spybot S&D have detected during scans. The folder location is under program files/ pc health center, as far as i understand, PC health center is spyware that runs as legitimate antivirus software, making it difficult to detect. I'm currently using avast, spybot search and destroy and adaware (all free versions). Avast and spybot both pickup malicious files in the PC Helath center folder, but i'm unable to move the file to the avast chest or delete it w/ any of the antivirus programs i have. I've also ran several boot scans but am unable to perform any action on these supicious files, the…

Hello, I have recently upgraded my Ad-aware spyware detector to their anniversary edition and it has flagged a DLL file as suspicious- the file is C\WINDOWS\SMNST\WNASPNTDLL I have read that the new version of Ad-aware flags some of windows critical files ie false alarms -I would be grateful to know whether this DLL file is a windows critical file or something more sinister- the software prompts me to ignore once by the way. Thanks in anticipation Matt Woods

I need to have my users reset their passwords in 14 days. I would like for the users to receive a notice when they login that their password will expire in 14 days. I have tried using group policy to try and make this happen. However I have not been successful in getting the GPO to enforce. This is in a Windows Server 2003 standard domain. Can you send me a knowledge base article on how to make this happen? Thanks Jim

F-secure and junction points
by Guest Mervita- 3 replies

Hi! I've got a problem with F-secure Client security and Vista junction points named application data. The virus scan gets stuck in these recursive folder structures or the scan takes ~6h. The folder is: \\?\C:\Users\All Users\Application Data\ where Application data appears 14 times. I've understood that this might be a problem with a particular anti-virus software but at F-secure they did not know about this problem. So, has anyone stumbled on this problem with F-sec or another anti-virus prog. and what has been your solution? Furthermore, what is a correct number of recursive folders in this path? I'm thinking that there might be a program in my co…

Protect doc templates from theft?

I understand how to password protect a Word doc. Our problem is that we do not want our techs to be able to copy the templates from our laptops (that we provide them) onto a usb drive to use for their own enterprise. There are 5 .dots that have 4 years of improvements. Is there a way to have a users on our provided xp pro laptops, such that they cannot lite off with copies of our treasured templates?
