In a Windows 2003 Domain, AD, using a Vista Ultimate 64bit machine. I am trying to run installation programs from a network drive or mapped drive. When I execute for example a program.msi file I get an installation error: "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package." The program is valid, since I am able to install it by copying the files to the local machine. I am logged in as a domain admin. into the domain. Any suggestions on what setting I could enable (even using a GPO) so that I can insta…

Windows has found this file is potentially harmful
by Guest Art- 6 replies

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate with Windows Defender Disabled and Norton Internet Security 2009 installed. Someone who is completely trusted sent me an email with an attachment. The attachment was defined as a ZIPP file. I copied the file to my desktop and renamed it to a ZIP file to access the enclosed files. Within the ZIP are four OCX files which I need to copy to my System32 directory. When I attempt to copy the files to any location in my computer, I get "Windows has found this file is potentially harmful. To help protect your computer, Windows has blocked access to this file." When I click on the "How does this help protect my compute…

lsass.exe system error - the specified domain name did not exist.
by Guest SmoothOper8r- 10 replies

One of the workstations on my network booted up today with the following message before the login box came up: lsass.exe system error - the specified domain name did not exist. Then it reboots and repeats this loop. This workstation (as well as every other workstation on my network) has updated virus scanning software and recent windows updates. I tried using the repair tool on the XP pro disc and the same error comes up during the repair. Any ideas on how to fix this problem without the ability to run windows (safe mode or otherwise)?

Rootkit Revealer
by Guest Zareba- 7 replies

I searched but could not find an answer here so I am asking. Can Rootkit Revealer from Sysinternals be used successfully on Vista SP1? The day after I joined Facebook last week, my address book was used to send spam in my name to everyone on my contact list. I have scanned with Windows Defender, Avast, Malware Bites, Super Antispyware, Hijack This, and Stinger. Everything says I am clean. I have also removed myself from Facebook as I suspect that the problem originated with something I did or something they did. The only thing I have not done is searched for a rootkit. Any help or advice would be appreciated. ....Z (learned to avoid social networks)

I'm trying to install Kasperkey. I have uninstalled AVG however, I get a message that AVG is installed and to remove it before I can proceed. I search the PC for AVG and found one file left and removed. I got the same message that AVG was still installed. I then went into safe mode and did an entire search and location one more folder which was a toolbar and removed that. I still get a message saying AVG is installed and to remove it. What can I do?

Some of us want to choose what "gets out" and what doesn't. And this info doesn't work since there is nowhere to make such a change in the Windows Firewall window that comes up. Configure it - HOW? Can someone explain how it's configured to actually work without being a programmer writing strange unknown confusing rules for everything that wants to connect to the net? If not, can someone recommend a good free easy to use two-way FireWall like ZoneAlarm that's compatible with Vista? Thanks. http://www.vistastic.com/2007/03/09/window...ound-filtering/ I bet you didn't know that Microsoft Windows Vista includes a two-way firewall. Unfortunately, th…

IE will prompts for dialogue to enter the smart card pin 6. Gets authenticate. User now can use SSL site. Case2: 4. Open Outlook 5. User wants to sign an email. Outlook will prompt for smart pin dialouge. 6. User enters the correct smart pin and successfully sign…
