How to use UAC without domain admin account??
by Guest tom12010- 1 reply
I've set up Vista Business on a notebook used within an Active Directory domain.with a domain user account as the main login user. Then I added the domain administrator account to the local Administrators group so I would not have to type in this information every time UAC comes up. This solution works for me since I am in IT per se, but is there another better way to set up UAC such that I don't require the domain admin account, but the local hidden Administrator account or even a second local account with local domain admin rights?? (I do this on Ultimate boxes at home.) In short my question is how to make UAC as easy and simple as possible for a domain…

Hi... There is a virus in my computer. I am convinced about that. I cannot download anything concerning updates to Ad-Aware or Spybot. I cannot download anything at all from Microsoft.com like the Outlook Connector or anything else I've tried. Neither can I download the afore mentioned files from these sites with FF3, Google Chrome or Opera 9.26. When browsing using IE8, I get a message stating that a pop up has been prenvented. Even on my own web pages where there is no pop up at all. Something is preventing me from downloading anything that I can use to remove it!?!?! I need help... Running Windows Vista Ultimate with all updates. AVG 8 Free Wi…

by Guest wb- 3 replies

not sure how one can get really granular in allowing certain java apps to run without having to fully turn off UAC. after an auto update of java my users cannot run a certain java app now without turning off UAC for the user. i can see the java app in the terminal debug window and the problem being perm/access. so how does one in Vista allow certain apps under this security policy without turning off UAC for the user?

I cannot send any emails from my msn account. If I do it coming up with the following message: "To continue sending your message, please solve the puzzle. (Sorry for the inconvenience--these puzzles help us stop spammers" and asking me to confirm my email account. Is this genuine, or something to trick me into revealing my email account details? Thanks

Re: Cannot replace a DLL file in system32

Well and to John... A computer and its OS is paid for, don't forget. And a computer as far as I can remember back to when the ping pong came out and which I got at the time and comps ever since... is something we like to adjust, tweak to our use. NOT HAVING TO LISTEN TO ONE PARTICULAR SOUND BECAUSE YOU GUYS THOUGHT HEY.. WE DECIDED SO... so an example would be altering the login sound? I mean, you got 3rd party easily changing the internal resources in imageres.dll for example.. I REALLY would like an easier way to edit it and to save it.. cheesh. PS> not saying that commodore ping pong thingy was a comp style_emoticons/ -- lakmilis

How to monitor "domain controllers" without domain admin rights
by Guest Matthew- 0 replies
I hope someone can help me. I manage a fairly large active directory environment and I'm trying to lock things down to prevent security breaches, etc. We use various monitoring utilities to monitor all servers (including DCs) and I'm finding it very difficult to use any of these programs without breaking my security. Almost every one of them need domain administrator rights. Well that's not true, but let me clarify. I stripped the security of the service accounts we use and created groups to add these service accounts as local admins on the various servers. My problem is now specifically with DCs. I don't want these service accounts to have full…
