No users in Local Administrators Group
by Guest am- 2 replies
When attempting to view the members of the local administrators group I see no users at all, even when in the context of the local administrators account. If I attempt to add an account to the group that I know is in there already, I receive the following message: "Username" is already a member of group "Administrators". I've also tried running a script to enumerate the users in local administrators group and this returns no results. Any ideas how I can resolve this?

by Guest ricardo.l- 0 replies

If I switch UAC on, the recent file list that I used to access in any "save as.." window (top left corner icon) to conveniently locate a previous folder shows up empty. Has it reset, will it fill up again?

Running at elevated privileges via Remote Desktop Connection
by Guest Dave Nuttall- 0 replies

I am logged in to another system using Remote Desktop Connection. The remote account is an admin account, and I have supplied the username and password. When I do a disk defrag, using Windows Explorer / Properties / Tools / Defragment Now... the dialog box stays forever, and cannot be closed (on a local disk the UAC prompt appears). I assume that the UAC prompt has appeared on the remote system (unattended). How can I reslove this?

Host Process error message almost everytime I start up
by Guest WHfan- 0 replies
I use Vista (32bit) and I get this message almost everytime I start my HP laptop.... Host Process for Windows Services stopped working and was closed. A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available. Does anyone know what this is and what the solution is? Windows has never notified me abgout anything concerning this. Everything seems to run just fine so it is primarily a nuisance.

That's the reason I posted those to my blog, they are more then 2 years old. People think David Lipman is a Usenet God and they think he is trustworthy. They don't know the things he does when not posting to Usenet or the things he does when he does not like someone. They accuse me of stealing yet every attempt they have made to stop me has failed. They just can't handle the truth. My Remove-it software is unique and has been for over a year now since I incorporated measures to prevent it from working if they try to copy it. -- The Real Truth http://pcbutts1-therealtruth.blogspot.com/ "Ed" <apostle@REMOVETHISpeculiar.homeip.net> wrote i…

by Guest Mudbox- 0 replies

I downloaded a plugin for Paint.net into the 'effects' folder and I click on 'properties' and then click 'unblock' and 'apply' , and then 'ok', but the 'effects' menu on the paint program doesn't show the new program in the menu, and when I go back to look at the file, it is still blocked. I can't unblock the file. What will unblock it? -- Mudbox

CredSSP and kerberos credentials delegation
by Guest Ondrej Sevecek- 5 replies
Hello, please, would you be able to kindly provide some kind of a clarification about the CredSSP and delegation of kerberos smart-card credentials (to TS for example)? I assume this: the user is logged on by using smart-card (online by using DC) the private key cannot leave the smart-card the user then receives a valid TGT then the client uses CredSSP to forward "his credentials" to a TS server. and here comes the question: what actually is forwarded to the TS server? is it the clients TGT together with the session key to decrypt the TGT? many thanks ondra.

Hi All, I'm running MBSA 2.1 against my domain, but it replies to me: DomainA\ComputerB (10.10.10.40) Could not resolve the computer name: ComputerB. Please specify computer name, domain\computer, or an IP address. If I do a sigle computer check for the same server the check went fine. So basic requirements should be ok.

Experts are warning that hackers have yet to activate the payload of the Conficker virus.

Quote (BBC) :- "Experts are warning that hackers have yet to activate the payload of the Conficker virus. The worm is spreading through low security networks, memory sticks, and PCs without current security updates. The malicious program - also known as Downadup or Kido - was first discovered in October 2008. Although the spread of the worm appears to be levelling off, there are fears someone could easily take control of any and all of the 9.5m infected PCs". Scam?
by Guest Valeria- 2 replies

Hello everyone, I´m from Argentina and I´ve just received an e-mail with a tricky subject "Microsoft notification" It mentions a great price given and authorized by Bill Gates (?!) for Microsoft UK and everything. it didn´t ask for any particular password or key. You just have to respond that e-mail. I don´t believe in these e-mails and because of that I like to report this, specially because of lot of users that can "fall" in this kind of traps. Is there an e-mail where I can forward this e-mail? Thank you.

by Guest Lutz- 3 replies

Hi, we have a running Windows 2003 PKI and just want add a Windows 2008 OCSP resonder. I am clear in the point how to add AIA to certificates. My questions are: - Can I sign a OCSP signing certificate with a Windows 2003 Standalone CA? - How can I generate a CSR from the OCSP MMC on Win2008 (OCSP responder machine is not a domain member)? - Can I use as alternative openSSL to generate OCSPsigning key and CSR? If so, can someone provide a config file? Any feedback is appreciated. Regards, Lutz

Directory Security
by Guest Dave Taylor- 2 replies

I have SBS 2008 that I migrated from SBS 2003. In one of the directories, I have an Access database that several client computers use (each of the computers logs in with the same user ID to run this particular database application). However, I cannot seem to grant enough rights for the user to open the database in a non-read-only way. Looking at the "effective permissions" for the user, it has "full control" of the directory, yet it cannot create the Access .LDB file (nor can it even create just a simple sub folder in the directory). The user account is only a member of a couple groups, none of which have particular rights set on this directory. If I …
