Trust relationship issue?
by Guest Carlos Felipe França da Fonseca- 0 replies
- 76 views
My problem is related to SQL Server. Many users are having access denied, even being members of a Windows group which has access to the SQL Server 2000 SP4 instance. They can access the instance only if I explicitly add a login for each user. I'm sure that there is no group with Deny Access. The SQL Server is member of domain A and the groups mentioned and their membership are members of domain B. I know there is an external trust relationship between A and B. Users from A cannot access domain B, but domain B can access resources on domain A. Logins created for groups from the same domain (A) as the server are working correctly. Only groups from the othe…

XP-VISTA Ultimate upgrade UAC Problem
by Guest Dan- 4 replies

I have upgraded a XP machine (domain member) to Vista Ultimate (domain member) and am having problems running system utilities that require administrate or elevated rights. I think it is an issue with UAC / security. With UAC enabled many programs in the c:\windows\system32 will not run and return the "path does not exist" error that I show below when I would be expecting the UAC prompt. An example includes: Control Panel -> System -> (under tasks) Remote settings, System protection, and Advanced system settings all fail with the following error: C:\Windows\system32\systempropertiesprotection.exe The specified path does not exist. Check the path…

Black Screen Vista
by Guest Richard Waldron- 11 replies

Hi, I have a problem currently with Windows Vista Ultimate(Integrale), this occurred last Friday evening. I was finishing off a word document when suddenly all went black. As an end user I assumed this was a system crash and so rebooted my system, then ran registry repair, then checked for viruses etc with Live OneCare, eventually reloaded Vista all to no avail. Each time I rebooted I was greeted by a black screen after logging in. I called my tech support who could not help but I did manage to gain access to the internet and after a short while found an item entitled Black Screen Death. This reported that all my problems where due to Microsoft thinking…

No HTML access!!!

I got 'hit' by the Koobface worm, I stupidly allowed a program called Flash_updater.exe to run. I immediatly realized the problem, removed Flash_updater, and Bolivar25.exe and then ran my anitvirus progem, eset. Eset found 4 items it removed, I then ran AVG Rootkit remover which found nothing, and I've looked for any and all references on google to this worm and manually looked for all file names mentioned anywhere on the net. But cannot find this symptom, or how to fix it. Within a minute or so of getting infected, Firfox stopped working. Same with IE, and Safari. I have a good internet connection, I'm writing this on outlook express, and I can get…

How to detect malware?
by Guest David- 4 replies

Winxp sp3, hp windows media edition; ie7; windows defender, avast, spywareblaster. After using her computer for several years with no apparent problem, my daughter's computer started having popups even though she had an av installed. I ran several online scans and nothing was detected. I ran HJT and it found two trojans. One it could delete and that fixed the popups. The other, msziptools.dll, it did not fix. I did a google search and found that it is very hard to remove. I did run an online trojan scan but it did not detect any problem. So I took the computer to a shop to get it fixed. My daughter does not know what she did that allowed malwa…

Elevation to Administrator
by Guest Bill Clinton- 3 replies

I have three questions regarding elevation: a. How do I do it on the command line for a particular program other than elevating the whole command shell? b. When I right click, some programs have Run as administrator but some not. How do I get those with not to have that option? c. What's the difference between a user in the Administrator group running as administrator and when not running as administrator? What is the list of rights when running as administrator and an administrator not running as administrator? Where is the documentation for this? Thanks.

Broken SBS2k3 Dues to virus/worm/ or intrusion
by Guest Andreas- 4 replies

I really need big help on this one. I have an SBS2003 Premium installation with ISA installed and configured as FW. After a year of normal operation, I found the server non-operational (all services down and not starting - giving message that path cannot be found if you attempt to start). The server had NO antivirus installed (that was out of my control). All operations are very strange. If you try to run add/remove programs to remove software, it freezes. If you try to download something, the download stays somewehere in the middle. If I plug my memory stick on the server, a file (game.exe) is copied on the MS. The same happens on other clients in th…

by Guest Richard- 8 replies

Hi, I use Win XP Home upgraded from Win 98 SE 2 with SP3 installed. Since a few weeks, my computer doesn't show the 2nd screen it was showing at startup. At startup, there was a 1st screen showing information about the BIOS date, version etc. and the model of the motherboard. After there was a second screen showing information about IRQs and DMA channels (if I remember well). This second screen is not showing any more. When I start from the windows XP upgrade CD or from my Win 98 recuperation floppy, my second screen shows. Even if they worked, fixboot and fixmbr were useless in restoring my second screen. Malicious Software Removal Tool and …

i recently got new computer with vista home premium x64. i attached the harddrive from my old xp computer (w/external case) so i can get all the files from it, but when i try to open the files it says i dont have permission. ive managed to use the security tab to "replace owner and subcontainers on objects" while changing the owner, for some of the files (mostly mp3's) but this is very tedious. is there anyway i can disable the 'owner' from my old computer? -- aaronofyo

Windows Defender (Vista) keep being told to Check for new definitions
by Guest Dave Horne- 4 replies

I am using Vista Home Premium, SP1, with the latest updates for WU and Defender .... I think. I see the orange oval with the black exclamation mark on the Windows Defender System Tray icon and am asked to check for new definitions. I do, there are no new definitions and yet I keep seeing that exclamation mark advising me to do something. I did a scan, rebooted the computer (even though I was not advised to do so), and I still see this message. Just me? Suggestions? Thanks, Dave Horne

Hi, We're in the process of setting up two Windows Server 2008 machines, one to be a web server and the other an SQL Server. Having enabled auditing on the machines, the SQL Server is continually logging events such as that below, at the rate of around 40 every 10 seconds. The process ID referred to is the DCOM Launcher (svchost.exe -k DcomLaunch). Is there any way to discover why so many events are being generated and, ideally, stop them being generated? Thanks, Adam Sample event: A handle to an object was requested. Subject: Security ID: SYSTEM Account Name: MACHINE$ Account Domain: FOOBAR Logon ID: 0x3e7 Object: Object Server: P…

Leythos - I've seen all your fights with pcButts et al. Please explain why you didn't direct the original poster, VJS, to cnet/Download.com, which is advertised as the download site on the Malwarebytes web site http://www.malwarebytes.org/ Surely if the staff at Malwarebytes deem it satisfactory, that will be better than going through a third party? I agree that VJS should try the facility, but I'd recommend he go here:- http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-...4-10804572.html You said yourself "Always remember - only download files from Trusted Sites" Are you 100% certain that BleepingComputer.com can be trusted?
