BitLocker - why 1500 MB partition?
by Guest Anders Lund- 4 replies

Hi Running Windows Vista x64 SP2 beta on a HP notebook. I use BitLocker and have no problems with it. But I have yet to discover the reason for the BitLocker drive have to bee (at least?) 1500 MB in size. Looking at the properties for the drive, I can see that only about 50 MB is in use. Reasons I have thought of could be: - Windows Vista have to have at least 1500 MB on the boot partition (for some reason). - Windows need to have room to save some dump files to a non-encrypted drive. - In case of the need of Windows Repair, it must have room to save files on a non-encrypted drive. These are all unconfirmed theories. So I ask you - What is up with the…

Winweb Security will not delete
by Guest Frank C.- 2 replies

Winweb Security is popping up on my computer and I cannot remove. This program says it is an anti virus program. I did not download it but there it is anyway. Control Panel Add or Remove programs does not show this program. I did a search and found Winweb Security on C:/windows/prefetch. I deleted the program but it still shows up in the bottom right panel of the desktop. I cannot right click on the yellow with black stripes shield there to delete it from the bottom right desktop panel. It is continually popping up, even when I am writing this message. I have AVG anti virus but a scan shows no problems or any virus. Frank C.

Hello I've got a problem with VISTA policy. In the VISTA user policy is the following Setting present: Remove My Document icon on the desktop. By XP this was the folder from the User Profile. I would like to hide the User's folder from the user desktop. The folder has the name from the Userprofile. Where is the correct policy Setting? Must I load a different ADMX? Is it possible with policy settings? Thank You! KAD

Prevent users to save on Desktop
by Guest Per Kr. Myra- 0 replies

Hi, I'm trying to prevent ordinary users to save files on the Desktop, but I have some problem with Vista. The users have roaming profiles. I have made one startup script that creates a local folder C:\Desktop , and set user rights to read and execute. I have a logonscript that sets the User Shell Folder "Desktop" to C:\Desktop. The redirection works, and for XP clients all seems to work. When I log on to a Vista client, the profile wont load correct and the user gets a temporary profile. As far as I can see the Vista client doesn't add anything to the desktop at logon, so I can't see why it fails for Vista and it works for XP. Hope someone c…

I am running Thunderbird 2.0 on Vista Ultimate. In the past versions of Thunderbird and Windows, I had Enigmail working fine. This time around I am getting some errors messages. Getting Rid of Norton
by Guest PT- 11 replies

I recently uninstalled Norton Internet Security using the uninstall feature in Ctrl Panel | Add/Remove Programs. The program is gone, but left behind are a set of hundreds (thousands??) of files in nested folders whose names begins with Symantec. There may be more with other names. There's something called the "Norton Removal Tool", which I've downloaded but not run. Is there a benefit or harm to my system from either leaving things alone, or running the tool? -- PT

Setting Time and Security Issues
by Guest Richard B- 7 replies

I have a small program that I to run at startup to update the system time and then exits. When I moved to Vista I discovered this program causes some kind of security issue. First I log in as an Administrator level user id. If I run the program as is I get the error that the program could not update the time. If I do a "run as administrator," then I get the UAC alert asking me if I want to allow this program to run. Is there some way to make this thing work without having to click "Allow" every time I startup my computer? Thanks, Richard..

I would like some help in understanding XSS security vunerabilities. i can see where a "hacker" could cause implementation vunerable to XSS attacks inject java script to the page and cause weird stuff to happen on his machine. What i cannot understand is how a hacker could gather information from another users session . and get private information. Is this possible and if so how. i have a customers site that has vunerable pages but we need to prioritze what we f…

Live Onecare and Adaware
by Guest KHogle- 2 replies

I am using windows Live Oncare. I also like to use other antispyware, usually because I have found that only one program is usually not enough to capture all spyware. However, Live Onecare reports that Adaware may interfere. I use the free version so it is not performing realtime protection, just on demand scans. Does anyone know if this is truly a problem or just Microsoft pouting about me using a competitor program? -- -- NOTICE: Due to Presidential Executive Orders, the National Security Agency may have read this email without warning, warrant, or notice, and certainly without probable cause. Remember Username Resume from Sleep Vista Business 32
by Guest gt57- 0 replies

My system recently changed behavior after resuming from sleep. The previous behavior was my username was remembered after resume from sleep and all I had to enter was my password. Now, when resuming from sleep, I must enter my username and password. I am on a domain, so I could have been subjected to a updated Group Policy. I do not have good access to those who control Group Policy. At about the same time, I deleted a couple of of stale domain users accounts by deleting their folders in c:\users. I now only have my user account, the Public folder, and the Administrator account in c:\users. When I reboot, my domain\username name is remembered. But when …
