Using multiple virus scanners on the same system?
by Guest Neil Jones- 11 replies

What is the best way to use 2 or more virus scanners on the same system? I want one of AV scaaners to be the primary AV scanner (resident). The other AV scanners I would like to use them from a bootable CD or as an application and execute on-demand only. Some scanners seem to be more current than others. So I would like to know if anyone has done this on Windows Vista without hurting the system. Thank you in advance. NJ

I have a customer's server that is experiencing folder permission issues. Whener a user creates a new folder on the Shared drive, the permissions become set to only that user. It should be opened up to everyone in the domain. As the Administrator I even have to go in and take ownership and then reassign permissions. Any thoughts?

I have a user who needs to be able to view and run two Scheduler jobs, as well as at view a particular service so she can check and make sure the service has not stopped. At this time she is in the local Remote Desktop Users and Users groups only. By adding her to the local Power Users group she still cannot perform either previously mentioned task. When her ID is placed in the Administrators group she is able to perform both tasks. We do NOT want her in the local Administrators Group for security reasons. We have tried giving her Full Control security rights on the security tab by right clicking on both of the defined scheduled tasks. However, she sti…

Norton CE detects virus in C:\Recycler... 1 2 3
by Guest Jordon- 57 replies

But there's nothing in C:\Recycler\... I'm using the Corporate Edition of NAV on our Win2k Server based network. It's an older version but it gets updates regularly. I'm not really interested in discussing the merits (or lack thereof) of Norton unless it directly involves my situation. I don't know, maybe NAV is broken. Norton is reporting that there is a virus found in my C:\Recycler\ (Win2k Pro). It says it's Trojan.Gernid and it's an .exe within a zip file. I've researched what this virus is suppose to do but as far as I can tell my computer isn't infected, other than the fact that Norton says it's there. The recycle bin is empty and I empty it on a se…

Emacs Zip File Crashing Vista Explorer
by Guest Nils Gösche- 6 replies
Hi! I have a new computer with Windows Vista. I wanted to install Emacs from http://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/emacs/windows/e....3-bin-i386.zip and was surprised to find that trying to extract the files of this (rather large) zip file reliably crashes Windows Explorer. I tried to report the bug to Microsoft Support but unfortunately they won't accept any bug reports because I have only an OEM license. (Or if they do accept bug reports, I couldn't find out how to submit them). If it isn't just my machine that's broken somehow, there could be a security hole... "Peter Foldes" <okf22@hotmail.com> has recently said.. "You should see my W2K3 Enterprise Sever boot. From cold boot to fully loaded Desktop 46 seconds including LAN connection" (his mis-spelling of 'Server') Wikipedia tells me ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enterprise_Server ) "An enterprise server is a computer system which performs an essential service for a large organization. Examples include corporate web servers, print servers, and databases. A key feature distinguishing an enterprise server is that even a short-term failure can cost more than purchasing and installing the system. For example, it may take only a few minutes' down tim…
