Open File - Security Warning in 2003 Enterprise
by Guest Dennis_S- 1 reply

Hello, Last week I upgraded server 2003 Standard to 2003 Enterprise. All users are now getting Open File - Security Warning when launching a shortcut. Clicking Open does launch the shortcut. This server is a terminal server. I have tried going to Internet Options - Security tab - Local Intranet - Sites - put a checkmark by Include all network paths. I thought this would include UNCs \\servername\ , etc. How can I eliminate this warning? Thanks.

"you need permission to perform this action" on network folder
by Guest darylh- 1 reply

Greetings, I am having a problem accessing folders that I made on a newly purchased external HD set up on my home network via a wireless router. I set up the HD (a 500GB drive in an USB enclosure) and formatted it using the Computer Management tools in Vista. It has 1 primary, active NTFS partition. With the drive plugged directly into my PC by USB, I was able to format the drive and create two folders at it's root; 'Archive' and 'Restore'. I want to use these folders to hold copies of my files and back ups of my laptops drive using the Vista Back Up and Restore tools. I have the HD connected by USB into my ASUS WL-500W wireless router. I can see the drive (na…

Need utility to view shared folder permissions
by Guest Dennis_S- 5 replies

Hello, I am looking for a utility to view shared folder permissions on an entire drive. Instead of viewing the Share Permission tab and Security tab for each shared folder, I would like to run utility to display this info as a whole rather than doing each folder individually. I have xcacls.exe, but that really doesn't do what I need. Thanks.

Security alert box
by Guest Cynanthis- 2 replies

This box keeps randomly popping up ironically ONLY when I am navigating in my Yahoo mail boxes. I think it happens to some of my email accts and not always. And has only begun to happen in maybe1-2 months. For example, I click to see my inbox and click on an unread email and this Security Alert box with that yellow triangle/exclamation point, pops up-It says, "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded."..my only option is to click the red X or the word 'ok' in order to get rid of it. Keep in mind that I can be surfing the web and this does not appear. ONLY when in yahoo mail. So, if you think i ned to start there first, pleas…

Vista system files win.ini / _default.pif
by Guest x64@favorite.my- 2 replies

I am writing an MSI installation package which needs to give Users access to win.ini and _default.pif, and further to overwrite _default.pif with a new file. Both of these are in the system root directory which is usually c:\windows The code I have come up with is; takeown /A /F %systemroot%\win.ini takeown /A /F %systemroot%\_default.pif icacls %systemroot%\_default.pif /grant Users:F icacls %systemroot%\win.ini /grant Users:F This works for Vista. However \windows\_default.pif is a windows protected file so when the installer tries to write to it, it fails and the original file remains in place. How can I get around windows file protection so my …

Vista Parental Controls no longer blocking websites
by Guest Red Baron- 7 replies
I have my kids accounts set to use the parental controls, with web sites whitelisted. This used to work fine. I was very surprised today to find my daughter on the M&M's website which is not in the whitelist. I checked that the parental controls are still enabled and still set to whitelist, and that the site was not in the whitelist - all true. But she can access any site at all right now (with both IE and Firefox). I'm concerned that Windows Update may have broken the parental controls. Has anyone else seen this?

I have struggled with the Hack-Hijack-Virus-Trojan-Person-Remoted-Into- My-PC-What/Whoever-It-Is since October 2005. I lost my web-development business, my bank account was accessed, my identity stoilen, credit cards fraudulently used by others... I am now on the brink of losing my home due to this "THING". @ one point, my satellite dish became a firewire! I reported all to the local authorities [police and DA], but no one will help me... I dare you to bring your PC to my house. I promise, it will be hacked before you get in the door. I'm on my third PC and it's already gone...

AVG, Windows Defender, AdAware?
by Guest Amanda- 9 replies

Hi, I have a general question about spyware sorts of infections. I have AVG Internet Security full version, and I also run a scan frequently with Windows defender. Both say they are looking for spyware, although the AVG website doesn't seem to have any specific instructions for what to do if you get one. Recently I somehow got a hijacking sort of infection, which kept re-directing my homepage somewhre else. AVG & defender both said I was clean. I downloaded a free version of AdAware, and after running that scan it cleaned 2 of what it called major threats, and 30 or so not so major, and after that the hijacking thing was gone. So, do I need to have al…

Whilst gazing at my XP Home ed. desktop, looking for an icon, (there's only about 42 icons on my desktop but, at my age - I have to look at them for ages in order to locate the one I want!), I noticed a desktop icon labelled :- Document Scrap '????????????????...' where ???????????????? is my Credit Card No. !!! ....now, I do often copy and paste my CC No. into various places e.g. banking website SSL login page, and a small number of website SSL pages where I buy things. ...and it's copied from a Word document, (MS Office 2000 - Word), ....so considering that I'm as sure as I can be, that my internet security has not been compromised, ...a…

Site-to-site VPN to client, good idea?
by Guest ac130- 6 replies

We have a new application we are hosting internally in an As/400 (all other servers are Win2k3 servers including DC) and we need to give our clients access to it so they can enter/edit data and upload files. The same application is also being used internally by our employees. The data involved is very sensitive all connections must be encrypted. Our first test client, also our biggest, insists on a site-to-site vpn. We have a PIX and while I am not that familiar with vpns, we can get a resource to create the vpn if we need to, the client has a PIX as well and they will handle the configuration on their end. I'm very uneasy about creating a persistent v…
