This might help as it came from Microsoft's Tech site.... It has a few different options on how to deal with this and how to stop reboots: http://www.microsoft.com/cze/security/inci...asser_info.mspx This may or may not help, but is still a good read that can give some assistance to those who can use it. -- LauraW. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ LauraW.'s Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/lauraw-.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/security-virus/658698.htm http://forums.techarena.in

Hi am trying to fix a problem for a friend of mine on his Dell Inspiron 1720-1418 which is running Vista Home Premium and all is fine apart from Internet Explorer cannot connect to the internet. I DO have a working internet connection and am able to download Windows updates and updates for Spybot (although not for NOD32, Malwarebytes or SuperAntiSpyware !!) I have run the latest version of these utilities and cleaned out some small issues appropriately. Next downloaded Firefox incase IE had become corrupted but exactly the same deal. I next thought maybe it's a firewall issue and as my working knowledge on the vista firewall is pretty flakey I decided to …

I can Ping my XP Pro PCs, but Vista will not show them from Start>Network. They are all on the same IP segment. They are all members of the same workgroup. I have SP3 on XP Pro Pcs - so LLTP KB fix will not install (it must have been included in SP3 - I guess). The XP Pro PCs can ping the Vista Home Premium PC, but not see any shares on it. The Vista Home Premium PC cannot see the XP Pro PCS when using their names and trying to map a drive. The same goes for the XP PCs - they can't see the VHP machine by name, but can ping it via IP. I have set and reset the sharing options in Vista over and over and cannot figure out this problem. Can any…

Anyone experiencing conflict between October 2008 MS Security Bulletin patches with TPM and Embassy
by Guest Mltwwlco@noemail.noemail- 6 replies

I have scheduled a callback from Dell due to an issue I experienced today with Vista Ultimate SP1 and the Embassy Trust Suite. I am unable to log on at all using the biometric fingerprint reader in my Latitude D820 (A09 BIOS), and unable to log in with ALL KNOWN VALID usernames/password pairs using internal keyboard, external USB keyboard or Remote Desktop (remote connections to IPC$ and file shares DO work with known good accounts). After 1 attempt to log on, password is rejected and LSASS.EXE causes system to reboot ~ 40 - 120 seconds later. Only system changes are daily antivirus definitions and the application of all applicable October 2008 MS Sec…

User Account Control Password

Does anyone know where I can change the password from "password" (default) to one of my own choosing? I used help and it told me to use 'run' and type 'secpol.msc'. When I do that I get the red x that says Windows cannot find secpol.msc. So I did an advanced search under the C: drive for this file and the is none, but it does find this - -'x86_microsoft-windows-help-secpol_'- [long numbers here]ending in -'ce.manifest'- -- p23185 Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com

creating PKI certificates without using a FQDN in the Name field
by Guest Good2go- 1 reply

Hi all; I'm hoping someone can shed some enlightenment. I'm configuring SCOM for a customer and we're trying to monitor machines in a DMZ that are not part of a domain. In fact although they are in workgroups, there are no workgroup servers. The servers and PCs that are needing monitoring are all standalone. We've stood up a standalone root CA, and created certificates for the SCOM servers, imported them to both the Local Computer store and used MOMCertImport.exe to use them with SCOM. However, all the documentation I've seen so far says that to create the certificate for the non-domain machines, the cert requires a FQDN. How can you use and FQDN for a…

Vista advertising SD card content?
by Guest Gareth- 4 replies

I'm probably missing something here but if someone could explain it would be much appreciated. I notice that if I plug a SD card containing digital camera produced files in to a card reader connected to Vista via USB I am invited via autoplay to allow "Windows to view pictures". I didn't give any permission to Vista to broadcast the fact that the (protected) SD card contains photos and yet it does so - all another user has to do to trigger the invitation is unplug and plug the card reader. There's no way I can see for me to prevent other users from knowing that the SD card contains pictures. So basically Vista is not just detecting the hardware (the…
