Hello friends, I was hoping you could help me with my new desktop I just got. It's a HP Pavillion Media Center m8530f PC. AMD X4 9550 Quad-Core. Vista Home Premium SP-1 64 bit. 5 gig RAM 750HD. It came with a 60 day freebie Norton Security. I have had very good results running my Laptop the last few years with Comodo Pro Firewall, Spysweeper, Avira, and Adaware. Could you please tell me if I need to keep the Norton running whilst I download and install the aforementioned security aps, or should I purge the beast immediately? Any other tips about stumbling blocks with this set-up would be greatly appreciated, as I have always been with you fine gen…

write protect error exception processing message
by Guest Tangram- 3 replies

Hi, I`m getting this error message when playing music from an external drive(OS is Ultimate x64): write protect error exception processing message 0xc00000a2 I searched the error code and came up with this: 0xC00000A2 STATUS_MEDIA_WRITE_PROTECTED {Write Protect Error} The disk cannot be written to because it is write-protected. Remove the write protection from the volume %hs in drive %hs. This really puzzels me...the external hdd where I keep my mp3s is a WD MyBook and doesn`t have write protection..I tried disabling UAC and the error still appears. Tried using media player instead of winamp, same thing. I have another MyBook with movies on it and it…

I'm probably just plain stupid - when I try uninstalling the driver the uninstaller prompts me to replace the Alps driver w. some other mousedriver before letting me uninstall... How did you do this? Else I think installing as Admin is the right way. Need to replace files "searchfilterhost.exe"
by Guest Stephan G.- 1 reply
Hello. I have detected viruses in the following files on my 32-bit Vista system: C:\WINDOWS\System32\SearchFilterHost.exe (modified 5/27/2008) C:\WINDOWS\winsxs\x86_windowssearchengine_31bf3856ad364e35_7.0.6001.16503_none_3b8c27e8ba3dd3dd\SearchFilterHost.exe (modified 5/27/2008) File sizes, dates, and Checksums indicate that these are two copies of the same file. My Malware protector has "quarantined" the files, but says it cannot remove them safely, presumably because they are part of the OS. Since they have been quarantined (and supposedly rendered inoperable) the OS seems to keep working fine. Can someone explain the purpose of these files? A…

I think I may have a virus but .....
by Guest jlnsmom- 2 replies

I could really use some guidance. My son clicked on an auto update for windows on Sunday, Oct 14. It appears that since that date, my computer has lost its files on the operating system?. When "logging" on, my personal sign ons have dissappeared and the only choice I have is "administrator". My documents and settings are all at the default and none of my files, pictures, music, or documents appear. I did check my hard drive at the c prompt and the files are still there, they are just not in windows Xp. In addition, everytime I boot up I get a spyware of some sort that tells me my Trend Micro Antivirus has expired. I have never used that before. I ha…

MS05-017 Security Bulletin
by Guest crashere- 2 replies

MS05-017 lists Windows XP SP2 as unaffected, but the fix is not listed in KB811113 (List of fixes included in Windows XP Service Pack 2). On the other hand, the fix is listed in the SP3 KB946480 (List of fixes included in Windows XP Service Pack 3). If this fixed in XP SP2 then why is it not listed? Why is it listed in SP3? Is SP2 "affected"?
