Firewall Exceptions
by Guest joseph- 1 reply

In Control Panel / Windows Firewall / Exceptions ; I am suspicious of the some of the programs that are Enabled. Some have names like Remote Assistant, Network Diagnostics for W XP, and Windows Live Messneger. There are 9 at the top of the list which worry me? There is a box with a check mark in and just the word 'ENABLE',,, no name of a Program. When I click on Edit they have names which I will now Copy. I don't know about enabling these places to have access to my PC, whether they are important for operation or some type of intrusion. (Remember the only name they have is 'ENABLE".) Here is what comes up when I Click on Edit. "You can allow comms with t…

Stupid Usenet users: I have been away for a while; involuntary confinement in a Lunatic Asylum. Stupid Vista, the stupid OPs, their stupid questions, and your even more stupid answers caused this. Also, everything got on top of me; aunts, uncles, even the family dog. Gosh, I am sore. But, I can see light at the end of the tunnel (I think it is a train!) I try to take my Zoloft hourly (doctor's orders), but, I sometimes miss a day or two; or a week or two. Bare with me, like my family did, in my mental crisis! And I have spoofed, and abused here for a long, long time. But, I have been out-spoofed, and out-abused! Congratulations to the Ultimate Spoofer …

Disable Windows Updates on a user-basis or connection
by Guest Twan- 4 replies

How do I disable downloading Windows Updates on a user or a connection basis? Context: On our laptops we have a specific local user account for connecting to the Internet by UMTS / HSDPA. However we don't want Windows to use this connection for downloading updates. How to prevent? Editing the Registry key HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Policies\Explorer\NoWindowsUpdate = 1 doesn't work. Greets, Twan

Hi, Vista SP1 with all updates. In Device Manager under "Network adapters", I have "isatap.zxcv.com". Does anyone know what this is? The driver for it is "tunnel.sys" signed by Microsoft, so what is this zxcv.com reference? Is this spyware? Thanks, ED.

mouse moves on its own
by Guest puthp- 11 replies

hi, i know this sounds a little strange, but a few times now (in past few weeks since i've upgraded to vista) i've found the mouse has moved on its own. initially i thought perhaps i had moved the mouse, and there had been a delay in what i saw on-screen, so i ignored it. but just now, i put my hand on the mouse but didn't move it at all... and it very very quickly whizzed to the right, and then far to the left, finishing right above my desktop shortcut for Ad-Aware 2008 this has happened a few times, the sudden movements i mean. (i never paid attention to where the mouse ended up)... it's very spooky, and i'm very worried. i'm not a security exp…

IPSEC Windwos 2008

Guys I do appreciate if someone can point me to setting up IPSEC trough WF.msc. I understand the WF.msc combined most of the configurations including IPSEC. I need to set IPSEC on two of the domain controllers will be talking back to couple other DC’s on different sites. I will have to allow security folks to scan any service and port on the domain controllers as well. I am not sure how to let the security folks dropped in the IPSEC tunnel , since they want to monitor in and out of the tunnel Any pointer to KB or step by step document would be appreciated --oz -- Oz Ozugurlu MVP (Exchange) MCITP (EMA), MCITP (SA) MCSE 2003, M+, S+, MCDS…

Re: Documents and settings is not accessible. Access is denied.

Hello, If you have disabled the hiding of operating system files, you will see what appear to be system folders with familiar names like "Documents and Settings" and "My Music". They are shown with a transparent icon and a shortcut arrow. These are not really folders and contain no data. They are only there to assist some old programs. Windows Vista has moved or renamed many familiar locations. The folder called "Documents and Settings" is called "Users" in Windows Vista. - JB "ITNews" <ITNews@net.it> wrote in message news:ur6pXTsLJHA.1156@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl...<span style="color:blue"> > As I was trying to browse got the followi…

Sounds are turned on in Vista yet they don't play. What setting could I have missed and what can cause sounds to stop playing? The speakers work fine. All connections are secure. The little speaker icon is also missing from the taskbar. How can I get that back? TIA.......
