Security discussion These are a very basic set of questions. Possibly there is an article on the web that someone can point me to that fully addresses each of these: What security protection should I expect from: a wireless hub/router a software firewall a software anti-virus, anti-trojan program the security built into Vista The reason I ask this is that I have a Linksys wireless hub with a WEP code activated and I also had Zonealarm with Windows XP. I had my files shared. I thought that the wireless hub should provide hardware based security from anyone being able to "look" at my files and anything behind the hub. I found that Zonealarm …

Don't have create access in Windows 2003 server
by Guest carnivorousapetrick- 0 replies

I've run into this problem on several (but not all) windows 2003 server: When I try to create a home folder for a new user, I'm told that I (as domain administrator) don't have create access to the server, and that the folder will not be created. If I manually create it, I've had issues where the user will only have read access to their files, even when they are the owner and permissions are reset. None of this occurs with any consistency. I can't find anything at Microsoft about this. Please help. -- %20--The Final Frontier

I've got a hard-disk from a SP Home PC attached as slave [drive E:\ by the way], and I've Ghosted it into a directory on C:\ghost_e I also would like to manually copy the whole drive, say, into C:\e_copy but, the machine that it came from had Norton installed in it and when I try to drag everything from E:\ and drop it in C:\e_copy ...it can't get past some file that are locked on E:\ e.g. XP tells me :- "Cannot copy or replace SrtETmp: Access Denied" How to delete the Norton locked files on slve drive E:\ please ? :-) regards, Richard

Changing an Admin acct into a Standard acct
by Guest Steve Turner- 10 replies
I have been working in Vista for the first time for a couple of weeks now. Initially I set up myself as a Admin and have been using only that account. However, I've been reading up on security issues in Vista and realize that I should have set myself up as a Standard user and only invoke the Admin account when I wanted to. My question is this: What changes will occur if I first set up an Admin account and then change the current Admin account (the intiial one) to a Standard? Will all my documents be preserved? What other issues should I take into consideration? Thanks.

Hi, Vista Ultimate (32 bit). Single partition 'C' drive. I am trying to install BitLocker. I run the BitLocker Drive Preparation Tool and receive the following error: A problem occurred while preparing the drive for BitLocker Drive Encryption. Error: 0x80070005 Access is denied. My basic understanding is that the tool should create an active partition S: of size 1.5GB and move the boot files to the new active drive S:. Dell D820 with 30.2 GB free. Bios A09. TPM 1.2 chip is on and activated. I tried running as Administrator. I tried searching MS Knowledgebase. I tried turning UAC off. It seems like this should be easy. Help? -solon fox

EZI_HTTP_NETDEV_DISCOVER
by Guest David L.- 0 replies

Hi I have spent quite a bit of effort trying to get a handle on IIS log entries that contained this user agent signature EZI_HTTP_NETDEV_DISCOVER. They failed, since the server does not allow anon access, and generated security log entries of event = 529, with null user, and roving IP dresses. It looks like a nasty, but it's not, I'm posting here so as to save future searchers the hassle, hopefully google will pick it up soon. David L. www.rabboar.com www.rbqaeng.com From a post on the LinuxQuestions.org it turns out that it's: Hi, my name is Scot Zarkiewicz and I am the CEO of SingleClick Systems. We are the manufacturer of the tool that is in q…
