RE: Windows Defender and Norton
by Guest Mick Murphy- 4 replies

Norton is mainly an Anti-virus(a poor one at that!). And you should only one AV program installed at a time. Defender is an anti-spyware Program. You can have more than one Anti-spyware, as long as only one does real time scan. Your two Programs will get along with each other. And you need both types -- Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia "Steve Turner" wrote: <span style="color:blue"> > My new box came with Windows Defender and Norton Internet Security > preinstalled, the latter on a 60 day trial. Always Automatically Allow a Certain Program
by Guest Ken Triebold- 10 replies
Every time I boot up, User Account Control pops up and asks me if I want to allow this program to run "PSDiagnostic.exe". This program has to do with the functionality of my wireless print server and it needs to run or the printer on my print server will not function. If I allow the program to run everything is fine, but I would rather not have to be bothered with this during every boot up. I know I can disable User Account Control to avoid this, but is there a way I can leave User Account Control active and still allow this program to run automatically during boot up? Like is there a list of exceptions that I could add it to?

I have a Windows 2003 Server R2 Std Edition (fully patched). I created a VPN connection to a remote VPN server using L2TP and IPsec and it was working, however now, I always get error 619 when trying to connect. I've created this VPN connection on an XP Pro SP2 machine on the same LAN and it connects successfully. Where is Windows 2003 Server R2 preventing this and how can it be adjusted? Thanks, Hemmy

I have to run this program as an administrator for it to run properly or windows will just keep shuting it down. I set it to run on start up but windows is preventing it from running because it requires permission to run. is there a way to stop it from blocking it? -- hopla Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com

Here is the Error popped just few min. ago. Threat :- Win32/Agent.OBH Trojan. Anyone know what that means or what type of trojan are we talking about here. Thanks for your input.

I have a certificate authority already registered in AD, unfortunately it has 2 problems. 1. it has a mis-leading name 2. I can't load certificate templates my questions are 1. can I rename it (I guess not) 2. why won't it let me load templates 3. should I give up on it, build a new root and subordinate CA tree, move the services to the new tree and then remove the old one ? 4. as I have a multi-tree AD forest should the root-CA go in the root domain ? many thanks James

Run As Adminstrator - why hasn't it saved us?
by Guest riix- 13 replies

Hi all, I'm totally confused and wondering if I got this wrong or, after 2 decades of NT its still microsoft that's got this wrong. - I figure that better than UAC would be to run as Power User, and use the "Run As Administrator" when needed - which is often - Visual Studio, Event Viewer, IIS, SQL Server, etc. - so I enabled the Administrator id, turn off UAC (after all, won't need it anymore and might speed up this doggy), downgraded my id to 'PU' and try it out. - Boots and I log on (so far so good). Go to run VS - what? "Run As Administrator" is grayed out ??? so I google this and find out you gotta have UAC running to get this to work .. DUH Microso…

How can I optimise UAC on Vista 64?
by Guest Quentin- 22 replies
Vista 64 SP1, fully patched. When UAC kicks in, it's a real pain. Not that it kicks in but the way it kicks in. The screen dims and the system is unresponsive for a couple of seconds - just long enough for me to notice and then a bit longer. Then the UAC prompt comes up. I'd like to remove the screen dimming and change it to the sort of warning prompt you get when you try to run an ActiveX control or Java applet. Can I do this? Note that I don't want to disable UAC just modify the behaviour. -- qts

HTML/scripted.gen virus
by Guest Chris- 3 replies

This virus keeps coming in when I browse with IE and logs me off several accounts including MSN. AdAware can find it and repair but cannot block it. Firefox has a script-blocking feature, why doesn't IE? Are they working on it? I've unchecked all the scripting options under Options/Settings. Anything else I should do?
