Video not showing in browser
by Guest wb- 3 replies

On a Vista machine, IE and Firefox both are not being allowed to show video from a lorex cctv server. It is a java applet i believe for this particular video app. the video shows just fine on XP machines with IE 7 or Firefox but not on Vista. We allowed java scripts on both browsers but that didn't help. We turned off the Vista firewall wall too but that didn't help is this particular case. What can I check on Vista to allow this?

by Guest DAS WULF- 1 reply

Hello, this is my first posting on this very informative site. I find the information quit in depth and useful. I was looking through my msconfig settings earlier and noticed this smhelper enabled on start up. I tried to see if in fact it was a malicious type program and could not find any viable information regarding this entry. Would it be possible if someone could shed some light on this for me? thanks. -- DAS WULF

Hello, I am trying to install my application on windows vista ultimate and I am having lots of issues with users permissions. My application has different pieces, a windows service, a desktop application and another windows application that runs a the service manager. The application and the service communicate between each other using Pipes and I use the service manager to start and stop the service instead of going to the services manager console. When I install my software I install for all users, however it only works correctly when i am logged in as administrator, if i switch to a standard user, i can't start or stop the service from the application manage…

Malware sets IE to thearticlebay.com
by Guest William Lipp- 9 replies

While my wife was in Mexico her laptop picked up malware that automatically launches IE pointed to www.thearticlebay.com - even though the default browser is firefox. We know the bugger checks for internet access before launching. We know this because the laptop has an external switch to turn off wireless, and the launch never happens with wireless is off, but happens in less than one minute from turning wireless on. We know the bugger checks for internet access using the default browser. We know this because when ZoneAlarm is installed and denies internet access to firefox, the IE launch never happens. When ZoneAlarm is told to permit firefox, the launch…

PdhConnectMachine from a Service
by Guest muybluie@hotmail.com- 0 replies

Hi, This has been posted before, but I could not find a proper resolution or explnantion for what I am seeing. I have an app that performs a PdhConnectMachine in order to monitor a remote machines performance counters. This app runs as scheduled task under the SYSTEM account. Prior to calling PdhConnectMachine, it calls WNetAddConnection2 in order to create a connection, which I think PdhConnectMachine uses to connect. WNetAddConnection2 has a user and password supplied to it externally. This works fine on a number of machines here at the office, but does not work on a remote site. PdhConnectMachine fails with PDH_CSTATUS_NO_MACHINE. However, WNetAdd…

Issues after installing my pre-boot security software
by Guest Kelvin- 1 reply

Hi All! I have a HP nx6320notebook installed with Vista. Due to company policy, I'm required to install a pre boot authentication full HDD encryption security software before I use it. It's similiar to Bitlocker where by I need to create a primary FAT32 partition first before install the software. After installation, I reboot and get this error "The file is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum" And I cannot get past the pre boot authentication RTOS module. Is there any issue with this particular model and similiar pre-boot security software? Thanks for your help.

by Guest trike1- 5 replies

I have a Dell laptop. At office I connect to the network through a cable, while at home I connect through the wireless option (Linksys). It's been working fine for over a year. I am now at a new location. The router here is ProNet. I have no problems connecting through wireless, however when I plug in the cable I get a message saying "a network cable is unplugged". I've checked the cables, they are ok. I've even plugged the cable from the laptop to the modem directly but continue to get the same error. I did an :ipconfig /all" and it showed me both the wireless card and the regular NIC. It says "media disconnected" for the regular NIC. Any sugestions on ho…

I downloaded 9 Critical Updates for my WinXPsp3 desktop and saw one titled: KB 953838" which was Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 for Windows XP." When I downloaded Critical Updates for my Vista sp1, I also noticed a "KB 953838" Cum Update for IE7. Is that possible? An update for IE6 and an update for IE7 with the same KB 953838?

Configuring a security policy to connect two servers via a LAN
by Guest Roger Withnell- 0 replies

I have a Web Server and an SQL server both running under Windows 2003. I want to connect to the SQL Server database from the websites on the Web Server. There is a private LAN between the two servers. They are not on the same work group but I can access shared folders across the LAN using the syntax '\\<ipaddress>\<SharedFolder>' in the Explore address. (The servers are hired from a remote Host supplier and this is the way that I have to communicate between servers). To test this, I have set up on both servers a shared folder with Everyone permissions set to 'Allow full control'. Both the servers have the Windows Firewall active. T…

Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 SP3 CA Anti-Virus Plus CA Anti-Spyware 2008 ---------------------------------------------------------- A scan with CA Anti-Spyware 2008 found a Zuten Trojan. CA Anti-Spyware was set to delete spyware and cookies automatically once quarantined. Log shows: Quarantined Zuten Trojan was in Folder: C:\windows\minidump and 3 cookies were also found Quarantine is empty, I can only assume that the 3 cookies and the Zuten Trojan were deleted. ..The c:\windows\minidump file can not be found. I can only assume that the file was deleted by the CA Anti-Spyware with the Zuten Trojan. At that point I ran Ad-Aware 200…
