ebay toolbar - is it becoming crapware ? ...
by Guest RJK- 0 replies

Has anyone got the "heads-up" on what happens when I click on my ebay toolbar, to go to the ebay.co.uk, When I clicked on it tonight there seemed to be some attempt to redirect me to www.rover.ebay.....lotsofgobbledygookhttp://www.ebay.co.uk\Moregobbledygook ..... and I got an IE7 "Page cannot be displayed" ..MVP hosts file :-) ....perhaps ? or, if you like show me ebay "within" another page, sort of thing. I did a quick Google on it and got the impression that www.rover.ebay.co.uk is an affiliate of ebay. It seems that one cannot click on the "ebay" in the ebay toolbar to get straight to ebay any more, i.e. you have to type it in yourself or add i…

Does Microsoft Need a New Source Code for the Future? 1 2 3
by Guest Dan- 60 replies
I want to start a new topic on this because the Biometrics debate has gotten too long. I will now post Chris Quirke, MVPs reply to me about my thinking the 9x (98 Second Edition) should be part of the internal Defense Network of this source code. Chris Quirke, MVP says: I think we have the same ideas, but weigh things differently and reach different conclusions - you see the 9x code base itself as being something to be preserved at all costs, where I see the factors that make the 9x code base safer in certain respects as something that should inform other code base development. An interesting point from the article I linked for you, was the difference…

Accoutn being locked out repeatedly
by Guest Kelly Armitage- 1 reply

We havea corporate domain, and are experiencing an issue with one of the administrator accounts. It constantly locks/disables itself, and it takes less than 10-20 seconds from the time I go in (another admin) and unlock it. At first we thought it was a problem with his phone synching with Exchange, but we have eliminated that variable and it still occurs. Furthermore, when checking the security section of the event viewer on the domain controller, there4 are no associated login failures which would cause an account to be locked out. I have enabled the account, refreshed the event viewer, ... no failed attempts, then looked at the account again and it…

Mapping IPC$ doesn't work for DCOM
by Guest Ashutosh Bhawasinka- 3 replies
Whenever I need to access a remote system which requires some authentication, I preferred to use this command net use \\<remote-system>\IPC$ /user:<remotesystem-login> <password> I have been using this for over 3 years ( I don't know how I learned about this) It works fine if I want access shared files/foldes. Also if I execute above mentioned command even pstools form sysinternals.com works (I don't have to provide the user name and passwords). This doesn't work if I run a DCOM client applicaiton. Say, the DCOM client is on client01 and the DCOM server is on server01 and server01 has user administrator with all the permission an…

BitLocker: How to change drive letter S:
by Guest Robinio- 2 replies
I installed BitLocker using MS "BitLocker Preparation Tool". Now S: is my system partition and I cannot change this drive letter. Since we use software that wants some data being located on S: I need to change this letter. I found no 'regular' way to do this. Would it help if I disable BitLocker, use letter S: for example CD-ROM or something and then (when S: would not be available any more) re-install BitLocker? Then I could change CD-ROM letter back to whatever and use S: for this software. Best regards, Robinio

SP3 Registry change warnings
by Guest ElizaDoolittle- 1 reply
I downloaded SP3 from another computer and installed it from a CD. I have Spybot, which raised about 25 registry key warnings as I installed, which I allowed. and now as I am rebooting, I am getting another 25 or so registry key warnings. They are things such as: System Startup Global Entry Value Deleted Entry: OE_WMPWMFSDK_INSTALL_24 Old data: C\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\regscr32 /s "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WMSdmod.dll" and Old Data: C:\WINDOWS\INF\unregmp2.exe/ Migrate Library My instinct is to deny these changes that are made after reboot. Can anyone offer suggestions? Thanks so much to those who offer time and talent here.

Credential Roaming + EFS - how to cleanup user certificates ?
by Guest CJespersen- 2 replies
"Hi We have a major issue. Thousands of EFS certificates have been issued to various users. The problem was only found because a user got an error when trying to copy an entry from the Global Address List to a local Contacts. Reason being that 25 certificates existed for that user which was too much for the copy process into the local Contacts. Following up on this, we found that almost all users have multiple EFS certificates, some up to 50 certs or more. The domain supports about 5.000 users, meaning that way to many certs have been issued. Now we need to clean up and remove unnecessary certificates - at the same time we need to assure that the co…
