This is my senorio. I have a laptop that I want to have the user log in with normal user rights. I want to leave UAC active. When this person needs to elevate the credentials in order to apply upgrades to software or install plug-ins and so on. I want that user to be able to elevate their permissions to a "Local Admin" account not a "doman admin" account. I have created a local admin account on the system but when it comes time to elevate the permissions (such as reorganizing the start menu) The only credentials it asks for is a domain admin account. How can I have the local admin login automatically come up? TIA

Can't disable password protected file sharing
by Guest janie- 5 replies

Hello, I have 2 networking/file sharing problems with Vista Home Premium that appeared suddenly and arbitrarily. I successfully added a Vista Home Prem machine to my existing network over 6 weeks ago. A printer is attached to the Vista machine. I do not have a print server on my router, so I need to ensure the Vista machine is booted up in order to print from the XP machine. The addition of the Vista machine went flawlessly. I changed the security settings in Vista to Private Network. I enabled file sharing, but did not enable password protection. We could share files (simple file sharing in XP) and print from the Xp machine until 3 days ago. …

Win2k3 Certificates not accepted as Trusted Authority
by Guest Steven- 5 replies
Hello, I'm running Win2K3 R2 and Exchange 2003 and installed Certification Authority to process certs for OWA. When a user clicks to trust/install the certificate during an OWA session the cert is never saved to the Trusted Root Certificate Authority section of their browser and they are prompted the next time they log on to trust /install the cert. Manually copying the .cer file and adding it to the local computer (even directly to the Trusted Root Certificate Authority container) has no affect. Please help, any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Here’s my mp3 problem… When I play an mp3 in Windows Media Player audio stops after about 10 seconds, then I get a popup telling me to download a file from flashcodec.com. The popup says: You have chosen to open Windows_Media_Player_Flash_Codec_Plugin.exe which is a: Application from: http://www.flashcodec.com I have run NOD32, Windows OneCare, Windows Defender, PCTools Spyware Doctor, AdAware, BitDefender, Panda Scan and HiJackThis. <long post and you were warned -- grin and bear it if you will> I wanted to add this post because when the APS network was hacked in 2007 and then my home computer was hacked it was really disturbing but now in reflecting back on the experience it was profoundly interesting as well. The hacker(s)? stole all my personnel information and my identity and it was my own stupidity that thought that I was so clever and I have now realized that pride goes before the fall. Anyway, Windows 98 Second Edition got hit with an error but apparently because of the internal safety of the operating system via the lack of services resulting in a smaller surface …

Gurus, Does this Logon banner look kind of weak to you (i.e. too "non-threatening")? I mean, if we were to catch AND prosecute hackers, the I fear someone could argue that the below didn't explicitly restrict non-authorized users. "File and Printer sharing" firewall exception scope in Vista ?
by Guest vudaritc- 0 replies
I'm have a problem getting the printers to show up in Print Management MMC. I need to change File and Printer Sharing's exception (those 4 ports) scope from "local subnet" to "Any computer". It was easy in XP - I could click on the "Edit" button and choose "change scope" button and do the job. But not in Vista. There is no "Edit" button. "File and printer sharing" firewall exception doesn't list those 4 ports, and of course there is no way to change scope. How to I change "File and Printer sharing" firewall exception scope in windows Vista to make Print Management work? Thank you, Joe

by Guest Blake- 1 reply

Almost all the available docs are very old and relate to Windows 2000 server. I am trying to setup a cross realm trust using AES as the cipher to protect the cross realm keys. Has anyone done this successfully? I would appreciate any insight that could be provided. I have followed every older how-to with no success. I'm offering up a small prize to anyone who can assist me on this project. Blake

EFS/DRA
by Guest Steve- 8 replies

All, I could really use some help with this EFS/DRA stuff. One thing at a time I suppose. I have successfully published a DRA via Group Policy (Win2k3/AD). I created an encrypted file on an XP2 machine. When I click details of the encrypted file, I can see the DRA. Associated with the user is a Cert Thumbprint. I am logged onto a DC with the DRA user and when I open the Certificates snap-in for mmc, the under Personal --> Certificates, the cert is there (with the same Thumbprint). Likewise the same cert is listed under Active Directory User Object --> Certificates. However when I try to access the files on the XP machine from the DC (file shar…

Survey Software - Can Help You To Manage and Conducting YourBusiness
by Guest smomst@gmail.com- 0 replies

Research is critical to civilization. It is the quest for truth, understanding and developing new ideas. Several research methods exist, of which surveys play an integral part. Surveys are required to gather data on an array of fields such as market research, politics, healthcare, education, employee satisfaction, tourism and so on. Just a few years back, this was the toughest part of the whole process. One needed to carefully draft a questionnaire, search people, contact them personally through post, telephone or in person, and collect data. All that vast amount of data collected would then be coded and analyzed, costing time, money and effort. Survey Software i…
