I keep getting the notice "New updates are available", and I have sucessfully downloading Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181) 8 times in the past 6 days. I have restarted Windows several times, but the updates keep coming! What can I do to satisfy Microsoft that I have sucessfully installed this update?

Ok Justin, I understand your problem, and I can help you fix it, go to Start, Control Panel, Make sure control panel is on "classic view" then go to administrative tools, then services, find Windows Defender, double click it, make sure the startup type is on Automatic, and then press start up windows defender if it is off. by Guest Henry M- 0 replies

Hi everyone, my team and I are having a strange problem, we administer a password change every 90 days. The group policy gets applied and the password is changed on the local machine, the employees get in do thier work for that day then they logout and go home. The following day the employee comes in and they are now locked out. I now have to manually type in the password on the server for it to be applied. Then they are fine for the next 90 days, please HELP! I know that something is being missed.

vista file blocking
by Guest Forester1- 2 replies
I realize this isn't the first post on this, but I have been sent a zip file containing a .exe file from a trusted source in order to fix a problem on my computer. Unfortunately, I cannot extract the .exe file because Vista gives me the message "This file has been found to be potentially harmful. Windows has blocked access to this file...". There does not appear to be a "right-click and select unblock" option for extracting the .exe file, and I will be sorely disappointed if I have to install 3rd party software in order to "take ownership". Is there not any way within Vista to change this obnoxious activity? I am an IT guy, used to making registry changes,…

by Guest Surfer Susie- 3 replies

I was using yahoo im when a version of internet explorer hung up on a page. When I was trying to shut off the computer, I got the message "yahoo IM is trying to connect to your computer allow or deny access". Thinking I wanted my computer to stop being hung-up, I said "deny access". Now I think the connection for yahoo IM is blocked through windows some how. This is what I've done so far 1) tried disabling windows firewall and tried adding yahoo 2) tried rebooting 3) tried reinstalling yahoo IM 4) tried system restore of an earlier check point this morning 5) tried clearing cookies and temporary internet files 6) tried creating and logging in with a DIF…

15401 - NT user or group not found
by Guest poindexter12- 1 reply

Hi, I have just set up a domain controller and a separate database server, both running copies of 2K8 joined to the same domain. Whenever I attempt to add a domain user / group to the database server as a new login, I get the 15401 error stating that the NT user or group cannot be found. However, I can browse on the "Search..." link for the Domain account, I can ping my domain controller correctly, I have gone through all of these steps, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324321/en-us, there are no existing users by the same name. I am suspicious that it may not have anything to do with SQL itself, but I am neither a DB Admin or a Infrastructure Admin, …

XP Anti Virus
by Guest Dan Heist- 8 replies

When I started my computer this morning I got a page that encouraged me to download a program called XP Anti Virus. There was an official looking MicroSoft Security logo in the upper left hand corner. I did not download the program but somehow wound up with a bunch of XP Anti Virus files on my computer. I have tried to delete all of them. Now when I open Internet Explorer to go to MSN I get a virus warning. If I try to go back to MSN two or three more times, and finally get connected and try to go to Google, I get a message that Google has found an unregistered copy of XP Anti Virus. All XP Anti Virus links take me to a page wanting $49.95 to download …

Trying to install antivirus, but told I already have one running?
by Guest Patch (but not in the computer s- 0 replies

First of all, sorry in advance for the ignorant question. I tried to download a free antivirus software (AVG) and it went through the process until at the end it told me I already had an antivirus running and having multiples running might cause a problem. Thus, the installation did not complete. However, I don’t believe I have any other antivirus on the computer currently. I did have CA Security Suite, but recently uninstalled it. I have since double-checked and there is no indication that CA remains on my computer or that its un-installation did not take, nor is there any indication that I may have another antivirus currently in place. Does …

User Accounts

I'm logged in as an Administrator (I think) but when I go to Control Panel, User Accounts, Change your account type - I'm told that I'm a Standard User. The window also tells me that another user on this computer must be administrator before I can change the account type - there is another administrator. Does anyone know what's going on?
