Malware Attacking Your Router? 1 2
by Guest ~BD~- 44 replies

"Instead of installing malware that continues to run like a key logger or trojan, malicious programs are increasingly attacking the network router which is common with any internet connected home and/or office. An unwanted program can quickly make a change to your router settings that will immediately open all your computers to the world. The bad guys won't have to install a key logger, they'll be able to record every byte that goes across your network. It's happening now to thousands of routers which are still using their default name and password." So begins a recent item by Bill Pytlovany. Windows 2000 subordinate CA ---> 2003
by Guest Mark Bohlsen- 1 reply

I have a Windows 2000 subordinate CA in my domain that I want to upgrade to 2003. I would like to create a VMware virtual Windows 2003 virtual server and make it my CA because the physical hardware is old. Is this possible without upgrading the 2000 server to 2003? If it's not possible and I have to upgrade the exisiting server to 2003 along with certificate services, what steps do I take to make sure I have proper backups of my CA that are required if the upgrade does not go well for some reason? Any help would greatly be appreciated.

New Vista Home Premium SP1 user, new Vista machine... I tried to open an MS-Access database on a local network mapped network drive and got a message "MS-Acess cannot open this file. It is located outside your intranet or on an untrusted site. MS Access will not open this file due to potential security problems" How do I shut this feature off completely - not just for this file, but globally for this machine? I suppose there are people who need this level of security hand holding, I sure don't. Thanks,

Form Field Issue

We have a computer running Vista Business. We have discovered that, when it displays an email address downloaded from a PHP/MQSQL server, it shows the email address of the person who is logged in to the site rather than the data on the database. This happens whether Internet Explorer or Firefox is being used. If you "view source" you see the data being sent from the server/database!! Any ideas? -- Hugh

Question regarding Microsoft Sync Center, Internet Explorer and Vi
by Guest PMarino- 0 replies

Hi all - I'm posting this message here in the Vista forum as a starting point. If anyone thinks that it should be in another, let me know. I have Vista Home Premium running on a Dell. I also have a Window Mobile SmartPhone, which I sync up with my desktop. Lately, clicking on various links will cause a popup that says: Title: Internet Explorer Security Body: A website wants to open web content using this program on your computer. The program name is Microsoft Sync Center - C:\windows\system32\mobsync.exe. In fact, opening the link to post a new question caused this! Does anyone have ANY idea as to what's going on? I don't know EXACTLY when this…

When I need to print a receipt from a vendor I purchase from on the internet, using IE7 & Vista, I use Adobe Acrobat Distiller and try to save to Documents folder (or subfolder). Error message tells me that due to security issues the file is saved to Temp Internet Files folder instead. When I locate that Temp folder, file isn't there or viewable. I just want to save the .PDF to my documents folder as a .pdf. What security issues can I look at and change that would allow me to save to where I want and not to Temp Internet Files? Does it have to do with IE7's Protected Mode? or UAC? or can I change another setting somewhere? Thanks. -- VickiC Posted via…

Needing an enterprise product installable on Windows XP or 2003 that can scan Apple Mac's
by Guest Chris McKean- 2 replies

We use Officescan for our enterprise anti-virus system, and I thought they might integrate Mac based scanning(due to their partnership with Intego), to avoid having to buy a Mac to install an antivirus system on. I have a ticket open with Trend on this question for their products, but I'm willing to go with any other Windows based product. I want to avoid convincing my boss to buy a Mac for me to test antivirus products on, and then discover later there was no need, if a good one exists where the management console can run on Windows. Because then I'd have $1000 worth of Mac that wasn't needed.

Renew Subordinate CA certificate
by Guest PT- 1 reply

I have an Enterprise CA root server and a subordinate CA server in my domain (single domain). Both of these servers are running on Windows 2003 Enterprise edition. I was able to obtain a subordinate CA certificate when i originally set it up (this original sub CA certificate will expire on 2/2009). Now i would like to renew my subordinate CA's so the expiration date will be further out (e.g. to year 2012) so all client certificates issued by this subordinate CA will have a longer expiration date. According to this MS article, i should be able to renew it by right clicking on the sub CA server and select renew. http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsser…

SCEP implementation
by Guest Neil- 2 replies
We have developed our Microsoft Server 2003 R2 PKI to issue certificates to Windows devices and to Cisco routers. The current configuration is a single Standalone Root CA which has been used to authenticate an Enterprise Subordinate CA and a Standalone Subordinate CA with SCEP. The Standalone root CA has then been taken off-line. Our Windows devices are issued certificates from the Enterprise Subordinate CA and our Cisco routers are issued certificates from the Standalone CA with SCEP. We have a backup site configured with Enterprise Subordinates and Standalone subordinates also. We are looking at consolidating this deployment by removing th…
