Hello Friends, I'm now using a Lenovo T61p with Fingerprint-Reader. I've now a question to configurate my Vista-Ultimate for using the Fingerprint-Reader. I've defined one User-Account, which is used by 2 Persons. Is it possible to configurate the Fingerprint-Reader to use the common account by reading two different fingerprints ? I hope, anybody can help me. Thanks !!! -- Meinrad

Incredible slowdown with Vista UAC
by Guest Dilip- 3 replies

We have a .NET/C# application that is required to start automatically as soon as an user logs on to their PC. It is well known that Vista blocks applications that requires admin privileges (ours does and it specifies that via the manifest) to automatically start on logon. Our problem is looking far more serious. We launch our admin- demanding app via a batch file and put _that_ batch file on startup. This works in that the app now starts fine at startup but it really really really really slows down the application to a crawl. However if I back out of the admin privilege and publish the app with a manifest with just asInvoker, everything is just fine and dand…

Windows Security Center preventing McAfee from running
by Guest bugsbriony- 2 replies

I just got a new comp with Vista on it, and have just installed McAfee virus protection software. In the Windows Security Center window though, under Malware Protection, it says that McAfee Virus Scan is turned off. So I selected "Turn on now", and then a Windows Security Center window comes up saying "You are about to run a program that did not come with Windows. Do you trust this program?" and I select "Yes, I trust this program and am ready to run it" and a user account control window comes up saying "a program needs your permission to conitnue" - the program listed being Virus Scan Enterprise, McAfee Inc. When I select Continue, that window disappears…

RE: removal of win/vista antivirus pro

One thing I can now add from experience when removing this PITA using MBAM; use sysinternal's Process Explorer to first SUSPEND the offending processes (they're easy to spot), then run MBAM. Failure to do so will likely result in the necessity to do a repair reinstallation of the OS . . .

I am using Vista Home Premium, and Internet Explorer, my computer is a HP notebook and about a year old. I am a subscriber to Nascar.com "Raceview". Last season I used it on my machine just fine. This season however the pop up page or screen won't work. it is a blank white page with the small X in the corner. I have corresponded quite a few times with their tech help desk and they gave me a few tips to try, like, installing new java, deleting cookies and adding nascar.com to safe list and still no luck. On the bottom of the page is the little eye with a red line going through it. When I click on that it gives me two things that are blocked. I clicke…

Shares Advanced Security Tab

How could a domain local group be listed on the Security Tab of a public share with no allow or deny boxes checked (and nothing greyed out) yet under the Advanced button, Traverse/List for This Folder and Full Control for Subfolders be listed? The two contradict! (Resetting ACLs last night caused this share to give Access Denied messages all morning! customer not happy.) Windows firewall udp traceroute blocking
by Guest Flip_- 6 replies

There is a problem with Windows firewall. If you try to make traceroute from unix box to windows box it fails because it uses UDP protocol (Windows use ICMP protocol). Only solution so far is to disable Windows firewall. If I put rule to allow any to any and protocol any for both inside and outside it fails too. Is there any solution for this problem because disabling Windows firewall is not an option?

Heyy, I hope everyone is doing alright. I have a small issue with the Administrator account in Windows Vista Home Premium. I enabled the administrator account two months ago, and also assigned a password to it for extra security. Four people, including myself use this computer, and one of the user's which is also an account with administrative privileges (not the administrator account), has achieved the ability to remove the Administrator Account Password, through User accounts in the Control Panel. Note: I do have user account control's (UAC) turned off, and I am about to try turning it on to see if that helps out. Other than that, I am having an issu…

"Interactive Services" - Problems
by Guest JessiRight77- 4 replies

Hello. I have recently installed Vista Business on a Dell Optiplex. Whenever I access a particular application, a message box tells me that "A program can't display a message on your desktop." The details on the message box say that there is a partial incompatibility with Vista. I can close the message box, but it continues to pop up every few minutes. The application program seems to work fine, however. The message box is just incredibly annoying!!! My Windows services are set for "Interactive Services" to use the "Manual" Startup Type, but the status is currently started. MY QUESTION: Is this simply a notification box only? Will stopping or d…

I've got several laptops running Vista Business that I'd like to remotely administer. All the users have Standard User IDs. I've used a tightVNC-based product to Remote Control these laptops, however, when I'm trying to do something that requires elevation to Administrator, I cannot enter the password, I have to ask them to do it....which defeats the purpose of making them Standard Users in the first place. Can anyone tell me how I can remote control another PC and have the ability to elevate myself if required during the session? Much thanks.
