AVG 7.5 backup CD

I got a backup CD with my AVG 7.5. Is this CD only to upgrade from 7.0 to 7.5, or is it when you have no AVG at all? I wrote to them at support but am still waiting. I would rather not get 8.0 right now.

Disable WiFi while connected to secure LAN?
by Guest madman- 1 reply
Greetings, your advice is needed. I see through searches that Hardware Profiles are no longer supported when shifting to Vista. This has me in fear of a MASSIVE security issue unless I am missing something. My environment: I maintain a very secure Windows network(active directory), where Wi-Fi is not allowed. I also utilize roaming profiles for my users, who are also not allowed admin rights to anything. When using a laptop, logging onto my LAN disable the Wi-Fi via the hardware profile to prevent possible bridging between a secure LAN and the outside world. Inversely, booting off my LAN enabled the Wi-Fi and disabled the Ethernet. How do I maintain t…

Problem with AVG Free 8, Vista Home Premium SP1 and IE7
by Guest Gordon- 24 replies
Installed Free AVG 8 here today on two systems - Vista Home Premium SP1 and XP SP3 with IE7. On the Vista machine, the installation of AVG 8 broke IE7 in opening a second window - it just hung until the "not responding" message appeared. I tried installing AVG without the surfsearch function, and without the Linkscanner module - still couldn't open a second window in IE. Uninstalling of AVG 8 cured the problem. The installation on XP SP3 with IE7 had no effect at all. IE7 behaved perfectly normally. Anyone seen this, and is there a fix? (The reason I went for AVG is that it picked up a virus on my XP machine that Avast! did not.....)

disable parts of uac
by Guest sanderl- 12 replies
Is it plausible to disable parts of UAC? this because I hate the parts -blocked startupprograms (in dutch geblokkeerde opstartprogramma's) -'are you sure you want to proceed'-messages (weet u zeker dat u hiermee door wilt gaan) , but the other parts are very usefull. so is it plausible to disable these parts? the only thing I know is how to disable the whole UAC.

Anti-virus settings
by Guest lkindratpratt- 7 replies

Hi, I am attempting to load AVG onto my computer, but every time I do, it tells me I'm already running an anti-virus program, and I know it's not a good idea to run two at the same time. I previously had the CA Anti-Virus Suite, but I've uninstalled that program successfully. The only other thing I can think of is the McAfee VirusScan which came with Vista, but I assume was just a free trial and is now out-of-date. How do I find out what the computer thinks I'm still running? And if it is this McAfee trial, how do I get rid of it? I don't see that option anywhere. I'm really not that computer savvy, so any help would be much appreciated. Thank you ve…

Saving Animations
by Guest Shadow Dragon- 1 reply
Hi. I work in different 3D programs and I have never had this problem before, and it only happens in Vista. When I create an image, my programs create the image, and I can save it with no problem. When I create an animation, the programs need to save the file after it creates each frame. Vista is blocking those programs from doing this, and I need to have them allowed to create and save these files constantly. I like the security that Vista has, but is there any way to allow just certain programs to do this while keeping that security feature on for everything else? Thanks

spybot immunization problems
by Guest Pepper- 0 replies
I recently downloaded Spybot. When I first immunized my system, it said that everything was immunized. When I checked it now, it said that over 700 files were unprotected. When I tried to immunize again, it said that I didn't have administrative rights. The Spybot help menu advised me to right click Spybot on the start menu and click "Run as Administrator". I did this, but it didn't change anything. Is this just a "bug" with Vista, or can I do something else? Thank you for your help.

one-time permanent blocking of MRT
by Guest Costin Gusa- 9 replies
Does anyone know how to permanently decline installation of Malware Removal Tool ? In 15 years of computer use I have never been infected and I don't need the MRT to be offered as an update. If i click 'don't show this update again', it will dissapear, but it will prompt me to install the previous' month MRT, and then I would have to repeat this for all months since MRT has been released. I want to decline this tool ONCE and FOREVER! No, disabling automatic updates is not an option. And no, using WSUS for a approving updates for a single home computer is also not an option.

Re: Can't take Read-only off of folder.
by Guest breeto- 0 replies

You cannot change properties for CREATOR/OWNER because you are not the creator of the program and you don't own it (you only own the end user licence, not the actual software). To fix this problem doesn't matter if you have UAC on or off. Right click the folder you want to change go into securty, edit then go to your user name and check the modify box. -- breeto ------------------------------------------------------------------------ breeto's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=51724 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=756316 http://forums.techarena.in
