Vista Security Update for IE7 kills internet access
by Guest Tom Berry- 7 replies

Dell forward a bunch of updates from Microsoft yesterday. One was Security Update KB950759. After this was installed I couldn't access the internet. After I uninstalled it everything worked. Again today it was sent by Dell and installed-same thing, couldn't access internet until I uninstalled it. Any suggestions? I don't want to have to do this everyday. Thanks, Tom Berry tberry@360east.org

ZLob/DNSChanger Trojan now can modify DNS Servers in your SOHO Router
by Guest David H. Lipman- 3 replies

A variant of the ZLob Trojan known as DNSChanger has been known to modify the DNS servers on your PC. Thus you get directed to malicious web sites instead of the web site you are trying to get to. Now there is a variant of the DNSChanger, installer ~300KB, that can use TCP port 80 and a dictionary of passwords to modify the DNS Server list on SOHO Routers. http://www.trustedsource.org/blog/42/New-D...ks-into-routers http://blog.washingtonpost.com/securityfix...s_wirele_1.html -- Dave http://www.claymania.com/removal-trojan-adware.html Multi-AV - http://www.pctipp.ch/downloads/dl/35905.asp

User Access to exchange mailbox and network drives
by Guest Barry- 1 reply
I have users on a Windows 2003 SBS server all running Vista Business. Once a day they seem to lose access rights to all network drives and there outlook is asking for a password. I don't see any errors in the event logs and I have rebooted the PC's and server and still I get these security warnings on there PC's. I have them logout of there PC's and then log back in and they seem to resume access to the drives and email starts coming into there outlook. Any ideas why they keep losing network access rights to the network shares and there exchange 2003 mailbox?

Password-protected email attachments
by Guest valdous- 1 reply

Hi everyone, Does anyone really know what the best practices are in dealing with password-protected attachments received via email? I'm referring to the email content filtering level, not the user level. We've always blocked them and manually reviewed/released. But I'm curious to know what other companies do and/or what the best practices are. Ive tried searching the net to no avail. Do most companies block them? Do they just let them through? Do they get manually reviewed/released? Thanks for any info you may have

Vista Shutdown Security
by Guest lushman- 4 replies

I leave my pc running to allow various programs to run during the course of the day; however, other users manage to shutdown the system without any thought for my login "at work". -Does anybody know of a "Shutdown Password" facility I can use which prevents this from happening?- I know I'm still at risk from the power supply being switched off - but this measure will certainly help. Any suggestions??? -- lushman

Bitlocker now disabled
by Guest Baldboy- 4 replies
I have been using bitlocker on a Sony Vaio - with TPM. Yesterday someone used my PC to check an XP installation CD. They booted from the CD and when they reached the setup screen, they exited. After that I had to enter my key as I booted the PC - indicating that bitlocker had detected a change. The way to stop having to do that is to turn bitlocker off and then on again. I turned bitlocker off, but when I went to turn it one again, it tells me that my system is not configured to use Bitlocker. It tells me to remove any bootable CD or DVD and reboot and if that doesn't help to upgrade my BIOS. There are no CDs or DVDs and my BIOS is the latest version - and w…

I have downloaded the Muti-A/V and set it up to run according to instructions. I disconnected from the net after I downloaded the program and scanners and clicked "N", indicating I was not conected during the scans I chose "1" to run the Sophos scan and also selected the full scan, not a particular file or folder as instructed. What I see now is a blinking cursor on a black screen at the bottom of the program menu and no disk activity for almost an hour now. I see the instructions say it might take sometime, and that's okay. But, I would like to know if I should be seeing something different then a blinking cursor.. When the scan is done, the a report is …

ehSched.exe causing security warning at startup
by Guest DeBiese- 1 reply

Hi everybody, a friend of mine has a problem which I can't seem to get fixed by myself. So I'll try my luck here. At startup she gets a security warning from ehsched.exe. She gets the possibility to execute it or to cancel. Problem is that she gets this message every time she turns on her computer. This is very annoying. Anyone know how to fix this? She never actually uses Windows Media Center (ehsched is the scheduler service of media center, right?). She's running on Windows Vista Home Premium. (Dutch) Any help is appreciated!

Digital certs
by Guest Herb- 1 reply

I currently use a digital certificate generated from my domain server to authenticate connections to ISA Server and encrypt traffic between site-to-site VPNs. Now I need an SSL cert to use for a website. Can I generate that from my domain server also? If so, how does this compare to an SSL cert that you purchase from a third party vendor? Thank you, stullhe104 -- stullhe104

Auditing the deletion of files
by Guest Garry- 0 replies
Hi, I am trying to audit when a user deletes a file on a Windows 2003 server. I have setup the auditing so that it records the Successful and Failed attempts of 'Delete Subfolder and Files' and 'Delete'. According to the Event log it now records the deletion of files but also the deletion of the contents of the file e.g. delete the contents of an Excel spreadsheet cell. This is too much detail and I only want the deletion of files or directories recorded. When I select 'Delete Subfolder and Files' only, it doesn't record any deletions. Is there a solution to this or alternative software that can be used. Any help much appreciated. Garry

Vista Ulitimate. On installing a program I am confronted with a message."could not open key Hkey_local_machine\software etc.. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key. I have waded through security for this software to change permission. I have achieved changing ownership to administrator but have lost the thread at changing permission for the object in this case the Program that gives me suffiecient access to that Hkey. I imagine I should be able to gain full control over security of this program to get rid of this message blocking my installation progress but I don't understand the final steps to gain full control.

How to make drive not accessible to guest account?
by Guest Mike McCollister- 7 replies

I have an external drive on my vista machine that has gives "Users" full control. I just found out that the guest account is part of the "Users" group. Is there a group that does not include the guest account? Basically I don't want to have my backup drive accessible to the guest account. Is that possible without replacing "Users" with each individual account? Thanks, Mike
