Avast detected "c:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\bin\jucheck.exe". This is also a legitimate file, but googling shows a worm also masquerades with that name. How can one tell whether it is the legitimate one or worm?

Re: BitLocker Command Line Tool?

Hi, We are soon moving to Vista SP1. Our computers have a C, D and an S partition, which is the bootable one. We are going to enable BitLocker on both C and D, and we want to use TPM + PIN. AD schema is extended and a GPO which enables the PIN option is in place. Can we use manage-bde.wsf to enable BitLocker the way we want? Or is it any better way to do this? Please advice. Best regards, Morty -- sportymorty

Avast question
by Guest kplumm- 5 replies

I have Avast Home Edition on my Vista laptop. I ran a scan yesterday but this morning the Defender bottom righthand icon had an exclamation mark in it and I'd thought, from using 3 other AV programs before, that Defender doesn't nag if you have other software doing scans? Or do I need to set it to do nothing? Also, when I run the Avast scan, it says in its display (above Type of Current Scan etc) Scan Archive Files: disabled - should it be like that? What does that mean, and if I need to change it, how do I, as I couldn't find anything in the settings. I'm assuming there's no connection between my two questions. Thanks for all response.

Defender and system tray icon
by Guest Minxii- 4 replies

Today I switched on Windows Defender (for the first time) and ran a quick scan which was fine, but I've noticed a new icon in the systems tray with a green circle and a tick in it. When I hover the pointer over it, it says "Safely Remove Hardware". I've looked everywhere for an explanation but can't find any info anywhere. Can someone tell me what it means please. Also, do I need Defender on as I have McAfee Security Centre installed on my pc. Thank you.

Problem caused by Bitdefender Antivirus
by Guest Veerle- 2 replies

Hi, I installed Windows Vista Home Editition and avast antivirus home edition. Windows gives me a problem report for a problem cause by Bitdefender Antivirus, but I didn't install that (I think). It's not in the list of software where you can remove software (control panel), it's not in my start menu and there's no Bitdefender folder in my program files. Why does Windows Vista seem to think that I have Bitdefender Antivirus? Veerle

HP Desktop (1 year old) Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP1. Had AVG 7.5 for about six months (with email scan disabled). AVG offerred Version 8 and I allowed it to download and install. Big mistake!! Gave me nothing but trouble. When I tried to uninstall it, I realized it wasn't listed in Install/Uninstall. But I saw that AVG had an Uninstall as part of their program....so I used it. (My second mistake!) Now, whenever I start up.....a window appears: "AVG Anti-Virus System. Could not initialize AVG Anti-Virus kernel interface." How can I get rid of this window? It doesn't cause trouble...but I hate seeing it everytime I start the computer. As you…

Vista treating Admin as regular user?
by Guest Martin- 7 replies

I am in the Administrator group on my own network, i am also in the Admin group of the local Vista pc, connected to a 2003 server. For some reason i do not have any Admin rights when i log on to the server. It treats me as a regular user, I think. I can't change security settings, can't install any programs, can't browse the network. Is this the way Vista is supposed to work or is something broken? And how do i get real Admin privileges?

Ebay, Vista Home Basic and IE 7
by Guest Curlyanne12- 4 replies

Help! I cannot log in to Ebay (I have had an account for years). I made ebay a trusted site, and set trusted site security to medium, with custom change to prompt for mixed security pages. When I attempt to sign in, I get a Navigation error, and a page that has a click here link because my computer's browser does not allow automatic URL redirect. When I click it, I am back on the ebay home page (new tab). I cannot find where to change the setting (or anything in Help to describe it). Can anyone point me in the right direction? I do not have this problem from my work PC, which is XP/IE7.

Require a device to log in
by Guest Neto- 3 replies

Is it possible to make Windows require a device, instead of a password at log ins? (pretty much have a flash drive BE the password to log in) I can carry the device with me, so, no one can hack in (by guessing my password) and I wouldn't have to type anything. In case I do lose my device, I can hide a password reset device somewhere around the house. any help is appreciated

Open Access to Shares
by Guest Paul- 5 replies

Hopefully a quick question, I have just moved to a new organisation, which is having a problem with staff bringing laptops and attaching then to the network. Accessing the file shares directly without joining the domain, the shared permissions are currently set to full control, with NTFS allowing only authenticated users access to the shares. So Jo Blogs comes along with his laptop, plug into the network, copies the network settings from a legitimate client and then log’s on with his username & password to the file share. How can I ensure that only domain clients can have access to network shared recources? Many thanks in advance. -- Paul
