File auditing for MOVED files.
by Guest Kelly Armitage- 0 replies
We have a Windows 2003 domain controller and have enabled auditing on our public shares to track when (and who) has deleted any files. It works great and logs it accordingly on the DC security events. The problem is that if someone were to just MOVE the files (because they have the applicable persmissions) it does not log anything. This seems like a giant loophole to me and I am assuming I am missing something. Is there any way I can use security/file auditing to track when someone has moved a file? I do not see that as one of the listed options from the security/advanced/auditing tab. Any help or suggestions welcome... thank you in advance.

HELP! What's going on here?
by Guest r. wales- 0 replies

A few days ago I started getting strange entries in the security log on my Primary Domain Controller. The entries are Event ID 674, which is Service Ticket Renewal. That in itself is not strange, what is strange is that they are recurring every 9hrs 50mins, for every machine and any User account in my Active Directory that has authenticated with this server. Another strange aspect is the fact that in the event description, while the user name is the particular Machine or User, the client address is 127.0.0.1 not the actual ip address of that machine or whatever machine the user would be logged into. I restarted the server and they went away, until ma…

Hi, I had earlier installed, windows live one care family safety! It was working absolutely fine, until one day I scanned my computer completely to find deadly highly infected trojan, which had infected more than 250 files on my computer! It also had infected windows family safety too, I used Spyware Doctor, from PC Tools website! My computer is always updated with the lastest updates on all the application software I run, including windows updates, so I have an updated version, Windows XP Professional SP 3! After quarantining the trojan, it asked me to reboot my computer for removal of certain other infected files! I did so! After reboot however, it wasn…

Hi, Just saw your post when I was searching for a resolution to the very same problem. I managed to enable remote access to writing CDs and DVDs by doing the following: - Open a command prompt and run gpedit - Navigate in the resulting window to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Removable Storage Access - In there you will find a setting called "All Removable Storage: Allow direct access in remote sessions". Enable this setting. Hope this helps. Best Regards nid -- nid

Task manager is disabled
by Guest banzai132- 1 reply

When I try to access the task manager, a dialog box will pop up and tell me that the task manager has been disabled by the system administrator. Since I own my computer, I'm guessing that sys admin is me! The task manager has worked in the past, just recently (within the last two weeks) has it started occuring. I have tried the msconfig/startup route to attempt to rectify the problem, but no dice, problem persists. Help, Bob Shy

Hi @ll, "Microsoft Update" just offered the update 898461 for my (german) XP SP3 system. According to MSKB 946480 this update has been included in SP3; but apparently this is wrong! Unfortunately this patch REALLY gets installed and writes OUTDATED files to my system: | C:\>dir %windir%\System32\Preinstall\WinSE\wxp_x86_0407_v1 | Datenträger in Laufwerk C: ist WINDOWS | Volumeseriennummer: 2C36-0AF4 | | Verzeichnis von C:\WINDOWS\System32\Preinstall\WinSE\wxp_x86_0407_v1 | | 27.05.2008 20:38 <DIR> . | 27.05.2008 20:38 <DIR> .. | 25.02.2005 05:34 15.584 spmsg.dll.ref | 25.02.2005 05:34 …

disable warning for 1 program
by Guest sanderl- 4 replies

When I use harmless programs (such as createinstall free), I get a warning: an unknown program wants to access your computer (litteraly translated from Dutch). How can I disable this FOR ONLY THIS PROGRAM. That means: My intention is to disable it only for createinstall, and not for any other programs. (the screen I see when I startup the program: http://upl.vs-hs.com/d/82154e1cd6ca85fe222b28a13713d58d )

Molebox Launcher fatal error
by Guest MIngular- 2 replies

I recently purchased a Vaio CR410E with Vista pre-installed, and decided to rely on my school's anti-virus software (Sophos) as my primary anti-virus program since I have used it before and is vista compatible. After I uninstalled Norton, I began to get a pop-up in the beginning when i start windows that says: Molebox Launcher fatal error! ..DLL corrupt i've tried everything, from my Sophos anti-virus scanner, to Spybot, to cleaning up my registry with CCleaner to System Restore, but nothing! Other forums have proved largely unhelpful, or at least i'm not turning up the right pages in my search. Does anyone have any advice? It disappeared for a lit…

Signed Exe is being blocked by Vista
by Guest geekgrrl- 3 replies

I have a digitally signed program that is being blocked when run on a particular Vista Home Premium machine. The same program runs fine on other machines, it's just this one machine. Each time the user tries to run the program they get the "Open File - Security Warning" message dialog. The Publisher is listed (so it's not unknown). The problem us that because Vista is seeing the program as "bad", it runs in a lower priv level than is needed to run the program (i.e. access to reg keys and profile information) and the program does not work, How do I get this program off the "bad list", or get the Publisher back on the trusted list?

MS CA 2003 ENT SubjectTemplate
by Guest Lutz- 1 reply

Hi all, I am looking for a way to use a field uid in certificate's subject name. Referring to http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserve...3.mspx?mfr=true it is possible to have some kind of filter in CA. If I am just doing a certutil -setreg ca\SubjectTemplate +UID the certsvc service will not start any more. Does anyone know if it is possible (maybe not support by MS) to allow UID? Regards, Lutz

User Account Control
by Guest AlanP- 3 replies

Currently when faced with loss of security or the UAC prompt I go for loss of security. I think UAC has some real merits if it could learn what a user of a PC wants to do on a regular basis. I think everyone, except MVPs supporting the Microsoft community, agree it's very annoying to have the interrupt on running non Microsoft products. If UAC were modified to interrupt the first time a specific user runs a program (direct or by association) and during that interrupt ask for permission to switch the interrupt off for that specific program version, then not so many of us would scrap (turn off permanently) the UAC prompt. GPO blocks proxy settings off network
by Guest Mike Snetzko- 0 replies

Good Morning. Very strange thing is occurring with my laptop users. Some of them are stating that when they go off the network at night, their proxy settings are still greyed out from the GPO on the domain, yet some users are not having this issue. I need to fix it for all of them, and need to remove the ability for them to change it while on the network, but once off, they need the option to be able to change it. We are running .pac files to control internet access from a webserver in the domain. But this webserver is not accessible from the outside. Thoughts? TIA. Mike
