Virtual PC 2007 (SP1) silently installs vulnerable MSXML6
by Guest Stefan Kanthak- 3 replies
Hi @ll, one more chapter in the book "How Microsoft lives Trustworthy Computing". NOT! Yesterday the "Virtual PC 2007 Service Pack 1" was published on the Microsoft Download Center. The SETUP.EXE (32 bit) available for download there contains but an outdated and vulnerable MSXML6 (msxml6-KB927977-enu-x86.exe to be precise; notice the ENU, even in the GERMAN SETUP.EXE). This MSXML6 gets installed (in case no newer MSXML6 is already present on the target system) WITHOUT ANY notice even before the first MSI dialog of VPC is displayed, i.e. the users system is altered even if s/he choses to abort the installation (or the installation aborts itself, as is the…

Saving Files
by Guest Zygy- 2 replies

In addition to saving my files on the computer I also save them on CDs. Recently a CD with very important files on it developed a fault, which resulted in the CD showing empty. The whole idea of saving files is that if my computer crashes (as it did, so that I had to reinstall Windows loosing all my data) I will still have all my files on the CDs, but if these fail as well how else can I save the Files?

BitLocker and AD (KB928202)
by Guest Guest- 2 replies
Hi, now that BitLocker functions at my machines, and the krypto keys are stored in AD, I want to ude the GUI to view the keys in AD. However the article KB928202 is a stumbling block. It clearly states that this extension only works under XP or Server 2003, but the include fix is packaged in .msu format - and consequently unusable under XP and Server 2003. If this issue has been raised before (I'm new here), please point me in the right direction. Old Mac

Hotmail
by Guest Jim- 16 replies

Is it just me, or has there been a significant increase in the number of fraudulent phishing type scams on the Hotmail service bulk email folder? dUh...when are they going to do something about it?! I usually would submit these to abuse@hotmail.com or whichever mail service I am using at the time. At Hotmail the complaint gets the auto-response of no action taken. It is almost as if by elimination they are looking for who we don't have an account with...

I have completed encrypting the entire hard disk (disk 0) of my newly assembled PC with the function of TPM and BitLocker. The computer is functioning properly, however, when I right-clicked the unallocated space of disk 0 to create another simple volume and to further format it, it was motionless. Do I have to unencrypt the whole disk in order to do such things or I can try other solutions? Many thanks! -- Nikolais Peng

As you probably know, Geek Squad is owned by Best Buy and operates right out of their stores. So, it is reasonable to assume that Best Buy sets the tone for how Geek Squad operates (except for the influence that Microsoft's $200,000,000 cash infusion gives them, of course). Seeing as how the tone for the overall Best Buy/Geek Squad operations are set by Best Buy, it would behoove people to take note as to how Best Buy treats its customers before using the services of Geek Squad. As reported on CNET (http://www.news.com/8301-10784_3-9947410-7.html?tag=nefd.top), Best Buy has been selling customers old ANALOG (that means the TVs are not ready for the …

trojan horse

I hope you can help. My laptop has been operating slowly recently, freezing ofgten. Even though my virus protection is up to date, I ran an on-line scan from another virus protection company. Their scan showed I had a trojan horse is the file "vgraph.dll". Is this a necessary file? Can I just delete it? I don't know if this is responsible for the problems but when its acting up, and I open up task manager, the CPU usage is almost 100% with the highest amount in "iexplore.exe". Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
