by Guest masterbowl- 1 reply

3 month old Vista Home premium pre-loaded on new pc, SP1 installed, AVG free with Linkscanner disabled, security settings all sites to lowest possible ("computer at risk" warnings") - and despite all this, cannot download Spybot from a secure site ... nor any "exe"file ... Have checked all "checkbox" items on internet security settings with friend with Vista Pro (or whatever) who has no problem with d/loading. .. It isn't SP1, problem occurred before (don't know which update caused the problem, as it's "automatic" update/install). What's preventing "exe" downloads? Help please!

Auditing / File Security
by Guest Kelly Armitage- 2 replies

Can anyone tell if it is possible (and if yes how?) to log or audit file access. This is a large domain running 2003 AD with a mix of NT / 2000 servers. The simple and basic scenario is as an example HR is a group all with access to Folder X. Within Folder X there are some basic spreadsheets that all these users can access. One of these users has either accidentally or intentionally deleted one of these files. Retreiving the file from tape took all of 3 minutes, but the powers that be would like to know which user it was that deleted it. I have looked through the event viewer security logs and cannot seem to find any reference to that file being …

by Guest CHANGING FAIL OVER CLUSTER TO NL- 0 replies

Hello: I have a WinXP client accessing a Win2k3 server. All latest updates and service pack applied. IPSec policy is assigned to both the client and the server. No problem is getting secured connection between the peers. Once the connection is established, I open up the IPSec Monitor, go to Main Mode-->Security Association and select the Propertes of the secured session. Under the field Policy Name, it shows "73 (Default)." I have seen this number changing. The IPSec Policy that I have assigned has a different name which uses "Request Security" setting under "Filter Action" tab inside the "Properties" of IPSec policy. Wondering from where this numbe…

How can i get rid of this keylogger?
by Guest ratimus- 11 replies
I had an error message pop up on my pc, I did not know what it was so I googled it. Turns out it is an error message for a keylogger program called Elite Keylogger from Widestep Software. The keylogger shuts down after system startup which is why I get the error message, but it has slowed startup time to a crawl. Emailed Widestep for an uninistaller but got no response. Norton antivirus, windows defender, and spybot search and destroy all scan clean. Any suggestions?

I want to be able to have my Vista OS on a Dell come out of sleep or hibernation on its own to run an application such as a virus-scan or a spyware-scan, and then shut down or go back into sleep or hibernation mode. Am I crazy or is this just not a reasonable thing for computers to do right now? My scans are set for 2 AM when I'm sawwing logs but they don't seem to work.

Last accessed date on file properties
by Guest brianF- 0 replies
This is my first post so here goes. Under the properties of "local" files, the last access date is showing up with today's date and time when they are known not to have been open today. Is the event of checking the properties on files considered accessing the files? Microsoft's website indicates that the date and time is only changed with the act of opening the files. Could this bea sign of a security breach? I have been able to replicate this on many machines running xp sp2. Any help would be appreciated

Hi Guys Looking for a bot of advice. My Father in-law has managed to pick up an infection of some sort on his PC. What happend was in the middle of playing an on line game (Call of Duty 4) (he is 75 by the way) the screan went red and a load of beatles started crawling over the screen, then a message popped up about his computer being infected with spy-ware. and now every time he tries to use Internet explorer the home page has changed to show AntiSpy Spider website. Also Task Manager has been disabled. I have tried various anti-virus and anti spyware software to resolve this problem but nothing is finding or fixing it. I have searched this pro…

Hi to all. This is my first post and my first step to the PKI knowledge. Someone have asked me if there is a way to make the Root Certificate not exportable so only the one who have installed this certificate in the machine can access via PEAP to the wifi network and in the same time the user cannot pass this certificate to another PC. A kind of security enanchement. Ok...i think i have the answer and it's NO, but to be honest I'm too new to this topic and I wont to be sure. Thank for your intrest and sorry for my bad english

Creating Site Server Signing Certificate Template
by Guest Eli- 9 replies

Windows 2008 I’m trying to create a certificate by following directions from here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library...BKMK_siteserver Creating and Issuing the Site Server Signing Certificate Template on the Certification Authority On #15, I ran into problem, my server is standard edition; I did an upgrade to enterprise over standard (without reinstalling OS) #15 In the Enable Certificate Templates dialog box, select the new template you have just created, ConfigMgr Site Server Signing Certificate, and then click OK. I don’t see the certificate template that I just created even after upgrading to enterprise and redoing the template.…

Re: Virtualized Certificate Authority Services

Yes some have virtualised the CAs. Problem being - you have difficulty using HSMs for key storage. If HSM isn't a requirement, you're good to go. At the first glimpse your plan is inconsistent (why use physical Enterprise CA?) and overly complicated (why do you need the three subordinates?). I'm cross-posting this to security groups where PKI matters are discussed a lot. -- Svyatoslav Pidgorny, MS MVP - Security, MCSE -= F1 is the key =- http://sl.mvps.org http://msmvps.com/blogs/sp "Sam" <Sam@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:AF43BA1A-6DB7-4DD3-9BAA-41ADF3639DEE@microsoft.com...<span style="color:blue"> >I …

I think I have a virus infecting a few MAJOR programs
by Guest TACOLICIOUSLAND- 8 replies

As of an hour ago I could not open AIM, McAfee, or HP Total Care Advisor. When ever I try to open one of these three programs I get and error message. Here's an example when opening McAfee; mcshell.exe - Bad Image c:\Windoes\system32\SHFolder.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains and error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or software vendor for support. Then if you hit OK it comes up again and again four times with that same title then the title changes to "E398ADA39B044C5808A09B3D49548DB: mcshell.exe" The only way to get this error message to vanish is open …
