Hi, I have a problem with the security settings in IE7. Everytime I reboot my settings change and I have to restore them. I have the settings set in custom level to allow programmatic clipboard access but it disables that and some other settings after a reboot. Any idea what I can do to make my settings stick?

I've seen posts describing the /verifyreposition /salvagerepository switches for winmgmt. Verify has always show the repository is consistent. Using the netstop, rename repository, net start approach initially works, but within a day Security Center is reporting multiple antivirus programs again. Any ideas how to fully resolve this issue? I have two machines with Vista Home Premium SP1. I've discovered recently (since SP1 install) that I cannot print to my "Send to OneNote 2007" printer driver out of IE when it is operating in the Protected Mode. This is happening on two machines. Is this a known issue? Is this something that will be resolved? Thanks.

certificate Services will not startup on specified port
by Guest Billy- 1 reply

Hello All, I hope you can help: I keep seeing errors when I setup a Enterprise CA. The Certsvc request is configured in component services to utilize port 2000 (lets say), and rpc ports are restricted to a range of ports. (usually 100 ports are allocated). However, The CA process is usually found on a port in the rpc range instead of being on the port specifically allocated to it (2000). This causes Autoenrollment of certificates to not occur unless i reset the configuration in component services to default. Upon further investigation, i found that the DHCP server service loves to grab the 2000 port, and this then forces forces the CA service to…

Random Security Warnings
by Guest Eric- 2 replies

I have Vista 32 Premium, and I use Windows Defender for malware protection, Avast! Home for virus protection, and Windows Firewall as my firewall. All of them are on 100% of the time, and I run regular scans. I've been using that setup for 4 or 5 months with no problem. But yesturday, I got a warning from the Security Center telling me I have no virus or malware protection. I checked Avast and Defender and they are both running. I had both of them run the most thurough scans they can, and nothing came up. But Vista still thinks I have no virus or malware protection. In Secturity Cetner, I chose the I have antivirus software running and I will …

I'm having a problem where Vista is blocking SuperAntiSpyware during startup. I've tried ticking the "run as admin" box in the EXE's properties, but no joy. The only way to stop the blocking is to disable UAC. How can I reclassify SAS so Vista will allow it to startup?

Security issue sharing folders on local network?
by Guest rchp- 2 replies
I am running a local network with 3 machines, administrated and used only by myself. I prefer to run as the "Administrator" user on all 3, because its much easier to install new software, and set up folder sharing. I have set up file shares so that only the "Administrator" user is allowed access (not even the Administrators group). I notice that even if my Admin password is different on each machine, I can still access the shared files. I thought this was supposed to be impossible? Shouldn't it require the same password to access the files. Otherwise, it seems anyone with an "Administrator" user name and access to my network could get at my files?

by Guest Dave D- 8 replies

Good morning, I am trying to back up the configuration of a Cisco switch. I am using TFTP. After accessing the switch I try to ping and telnet to my Vista Business PC. I can't do either. I have Windows Defender turned off and I have shut down my Symantec Endpoint Protection. Under Windows features I have Simple TCP/IP services, Telnet Client and Telnet Server turned on. I also have TFTP client turned on. What might be stopping me from accessing my PC?? Thanks much for any thoughts you might have.

My computer must be infected. New Internet pages starts up continuously with advertizing and in particular urging me to download and install “AntiSpywareSuiteâ€Â. Warning windows with the text “Windows Internet Explorer†at the top of frame, also pop ups asking me: Do you want to install AntiSpywareSuite to scan your PC for malware now? (Recommended) I already have Microsoft malware and spyware protection running along with the latest Symantec antivirus suite. I have also run Lavasoft’s Ad Aware and removed all cookies and removed the latest programs that I have installed, but nothing has helped. I am running Vista Business. Ver…

I have been testing Vista for out office and am having a lot of trouble with Office 2007. It gets a lot of App crashes. I decided to rebuild the test PC one more time. There is only one user which was the administrator I added during the setup. If is joined to a domain, but I've never used a domain logon as yet. SP1 is installed and all updates applied. I installed Excel 2000 to work with some old legacy applications . I created a restore point after I applied SP3 and the application worked. Then installed Office 2007 with a custom install shoing to keep the older version and not instll Excel 2007. SP 1 for Office 2007 was applied. When I ranWord …

Vista and WME9 Streaming
by Guest USAPatriot- 0 replies
I seem to have a problem. For 3 years I've been running WME as an audio stream (pull) on my XP laptop. The laptop is dying so I picked up a Vista Home Premium desktop, a Gateway GM5664. I installed WME 9 on the machine, no problem. It runs fine, only neither myself nor anyone else can access the stream. I have tried testing with Windows Firewall shut off and Norton Internet Security shutoff (rebooting with them down) and I still could not access the stream. Is there something else blocking access, some incompatibilty with WME9 and Vista? (even though WME appears to run ok...it doesn't crash or kick errors into the log) I'd sure like to find out what's cau…

Ebay
by Guest Shiras- 1 reply

I started checking for sporting goods items on ebay & when I try to get past the front page, I keep getting pop ups from security if I trust the page. Then security just shuts down the internet connection. I want to be able to shop on ebay. I want the security questions to stop. I also want to know how to shut off the Windows security. I have windows xp. I've very frustrated at this point. Even if I have to wipe out all my computer memory & start over. I want security to stop blocking me from using my own computer.
