Enrollment Agent & Smart Card Certificate Templates Best practices?
by Guest Brian Day- 0 replies

Hi Folks, We are working towards enabling smart-card logon in one of our child domains and I was curious if anyone has some best practices they would like to share as far as the Enrollment Agent & Smart Card Certificate Templates. I have the Microsoft Press Server 2003 PKI book on the way, but it isn't here quite yet. I will be duplicating the existing EA template and assigning it to their issuing CA. I will then changing the permissions on it to only be available to the EA security group in the domain. Should I mark the existing unused Enrollment Agent template as superseded by this one or leave it alone? When they are done with EA enrollment, I…

If you are working on a "legacy" system on windows; where do you go to for an update of the trusted root CA lists? If any have expired or have gone...with the wind, should I delete or let an update program perform this action? Are the Intermediate CA's being updated also? tia-maria

After re-enabling UAC, 1 of the 4 users cannot login anymore. He types as usual his credentials, the login seems to proceed, but after a few seconds the login screen is back. The user who cannot login anymore, has done updates of Vista. This user is an Administrator. 3 other others (1 Administrator and 2 normal accounts) have no problems to login. Plase help.

how to success OpenScManager for local machine when logged in with a user don't have administrator p
by Guest tianc- 0 replies

Hello All, I logged in as a local user which do not have administrator privileges on Vista. Then I tried to use: LogonUserA(user, domain, password, LOGON32_LOGON_NEW_CREDENTIALS, LOGON32_PROVIDER_WINNT50, &token); ImpersonateLoggedOnUser(token); OpenSCManagerA(machine, NULL, SC_MANAGER_CREATE_SERVICE); It successed when the target machine is a remote machine, but failed for the machine itself. I guess LOGON32_LOGON_NEW_CREDENTIALS use the credentials I put for the remote connection but not for the local, so I have tried change LOGON32_LOGON_NEW_CREDENTIALS to some other values but it can't work. Is there some other solution for this? Thanks…

I installed an HP printer. When I experienced some problems I downloaded the latest driver from HP, which would not install. The fix according to HPs site is to rename the file hpbmini.dll and then attempt the driver install. I keep on getting a permission error, I switched off UAC but I still do not have permission to rename the file, I have full Administrator rights on my PC.

applying update
by Guest JTL- 0 replies

i have a VB6 application that periodically checks for version updates on our servers over the internet. if a new version is found, it is downloaded to the %temp% directory on the client's machine, and the current process is stopped while the new executable is copied into the program files directory overwriting the old version. the application is then started up again. this all works fine on XP but due to Vista's new security settings, the process of copying the new executable into the progaram files directory is blocked even when im logged in as admin, which causes the update to fail. the application is launched upon startup via a shortcut created durin…

Account/Password Policy Using GPO Not Working
by Guest Josh Graves- 0 replies

Hello All, I have a Windows 2003 AD based domain with primary and backup domain controllers. Client workstations are 95% Windows XP, 4% Mac, and 1% Windows 2000. I modified the default domain policy to set password minimum requirements and expiration as well as account lock-outs. However, these policies are not taking effect on any workstation (I understand the Macs are pretty much out of the picture for this). I have done this before on other domains successfully. Other existing group policy objects are working fine, both within the default domain policy and other add-on policies for proxy servers, WSUS, etc. When I review the RSoP, I receive an er…

Direct ACL
by Guest Enthus- 1 reply

Hello there, I have created the below listed folder structure: D:\Data\CRM CRM folder does not inherit permissions from data and has system direct ACL (with full access). Where as files in CRM folder have been set to inherit permissions from CRM. But for some reason, all files under CRM have "system" direct acl instead of inherited ACL. How can I set permissions on CRM folder so that every file that gets copied, created or moved to it, inherits permissions from CRM folder rather than direct ACL?
