AVG 8 problems
by Guest Richard Fangnail- 6 replies
I just had the worst time upgrading AVG 7.5 to 8. I didn't like 8 because of all the new dialog boxes so I uninstalled and reinstalled 7.5. I don't like the AVG firewall so I turned it off, but whenever I restart, the AVG firewall is on again (I have my Windows firewall on all the time). If I check for upgrades in AVG it gives a long list of priority updates and optional updates. I'm afraid to click on those as I don't know what it will do. I'm pretty sure I can still update the virus database like before.

AVG 7/8 - general story
by Guest Richard Fangnail- 6 replies
I first bought AVG 7.0 (not free) in Feb 2007 and it worked okay. I also upgraded to 7.5 a few months ago and it was okay. Last night I upgraded to 8.0 and I hated it so I uninstalled it. I didn't like the idea of its having its own firewall and it often asked me if I should allow/disallow something. The only AVG big exe file was the one from Feb 2007 so I installed that. Sometime along the way, it said my AVG was too old to get updates so there was a "repair" file which I used. I am not clear what it did. It now says 7.5 and not 7.0 all over the program and it's acting quirky. If I click on Test Center it will crash completely. I'm not sure if it's…

WPA2 configuration
by Guest oakridge- 2 replies

New HP desktop with LAN. 2yr old hp laptop using linksys router for wireless. New wireless connection is WEP. Linksys tech says my router supports WPA2, however, when I try to change the configuration to WPA2 it kicks me off-line and I have to go back to my wired desktop to change settings back to WEP. On my security properties it has a dropdown box with WPA2 option, but when checked it asks for a security key. I either don't have one or don't know where to find it -- nor do I understand where the problem lies. With linksys, with vista or my own ignorance? Thanks, I've worried this for weeks with no firm answer. -- oakridge

AVG (7.5) Control Center
by Guest Richard Fangnail- 2 replies
In the list of components that are either red or green - is Anti-Virus or Update Manager the one that has to do with the updates to the viruses almost every day? Perhaps one has to do with the version of the whole program and not the viruses it knows about. Thanks

I am running XP with service pack 2. I am conected to the internet via Yahoo by ATT, which offers Norton Security, Anitspyware, AntiVirus, Personal firewall (I use Microsoft fire wall) Parental Controls (do not use) and AT&T Mail Protection. While using this I have encountered trouble with website pop ups...and security warnings (not from Microsoft although made to look like they come from Micrsoft) These warning will tell me I have security risks and pop up to a site that sells virus control and antispy. It will tell me "Internet attack detected" Pop up warnings that say "Privacy Conductor may find dangerous traces that need to be cleaned." T…

UAC Conflict With Explorer
by Guest Doo- 14 replies

Unlike a lot of people I actually don't mind the UAC running in the background. BUT... When I boot up my machine I get UAC prompting me to allow Explorer to run and the controls for my graphics card. Is there a way to permanently allow these programs to run? In other words, can you set up allowances for individual programs? Why firewall messages are sometimes so vague
by Guest AndyHancock- 4 replies
After much web searching, it seems that anyone who has used older firewalls (e.g Kerio, Sygate) will have been annoyed by messages like "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services from your computer wants to connect to some.changing.ip.address", or some outgoing ping (icmp). The remote destination ip address often resolves to Microsoft or some large content provider. The application that is doing this is always nondescriptly described as svchost or tcpip kernel driver. Possible causes are Windows update checker, Symantec, or possibly McAfee. I know that Kerio will specify the full path of the executable trying to connect out in some cases, so I'm not sure this in…

How to Avoid Security Warnings for Our Access Application
by Guest Rod Wright- 4 replies
Background: We developed a program to integrate a large amount of data for National Air and Space Museum (NASM) volunteer use. The program works fine, but our users are relatively unsophisticated volunteers. They get confused by the warnings issued by Access when opening our program. Our users run at multiple Win2K and XP machines and load our program and the data over the Smithsonian intranet. In Vista, the popup warning is: ---------------------------------------------------- Open File - Security Warning Do you want to open this file? Name: \\Server\Public\UHC_Frms.exe Publisher: Unknown Publisher Type: Microsoft Office Access MDE Database From:…

Kerberos problem
by Guest sdm- 1 reply
Hi I am trying to use Kerberos for single signon using a combination of Windows XP clients to connect to IBM WebSeal and then on to IBM WebSPhere. Everything seems to be working from the IBM side of things, however on testing 50 PC's, half fail to connect resulting in a WebSeal error. IBM assure me that this is a Kerberos issue, I've turned on Kerberos logging and I don't see any error in the Event log, and I appear to have the session tickets correctly. I would appreciate any help as to where to look next, Thanks in Advance, Stephen

Error in CLM, Smartcard enrollment
by Guest WesE- 8 replies

Hello, I am having some trouble getting my lab install of CLM 2007 w/ FP1 working. Using a centralized registration model, the CLM Manager ID (CLMTemplateAdmin) is trying to enroll SmardCard Logon for another user (labadmin). When I assign the SC to the user (on a machine running CLM client) I get the error: "Processing Error: Error generating requested certificates. Element not found. 0x80070490 (WIN32:1168)". I can view the details of the SC and see my mutilple Enroll request but none are marked completed. Lab setup: Using Gemalto .Net cards, Client PC is XP w/ SP3, CLM & issuing CA on 2003 Ent. w/ SP2.
