Hi, I have Windows Vista Home Premium x64 Service Pack 1. As Anti-Virus I have AVG Free Edition 7.5 and Windows Defender. Windows Firewall is On. When I open Windows Media Player to play some audio files (mp3) and I look in "Resource Monitor" I see in Network window alot of IPs... Image: Windows Media Player (wmplayer.exe) / PID: 2293 / Address: 87.248.217.99 But more then one line... and then the "Image" is "System" (not wmplayer.exe) and in "address" are the same IP's... Please little help here. I need to know what is this strange behaviour... Viruses? Hacks? :|

Hi, When I start downloading from MSDN using the File Transfer Manager - I can see the download becoming active but then I get an error : " The Server SSL certificate is issued by a certificate that is unfamiliar to the Client " . For this I found a work around to , simply in the file transfer manager - options connection tab "uncheck the file transfer mode of https" . This worked , but as I did not need to do this earlier and all was well - I am concerned if unchecking HTTPS will cause some kind of 'side effect ' at another time ? Please help ! Sam - MSDN User

Windows Vista SP1 repair/update RMS Client component
by Guest Sean Watson- 0 replies

Hi We were running Windows Server 2003 Rights Management Services in our IT Dept. as the final stage of testing before product signoff. We have since completely reinstalled the system for the production environment, purchased digital certs and registered the respective aliases on our external domain. The new environment works perfectly on new machines that were never part of the environment or have been reinstalled since, but does not work on machines that were part of the previous installation. I open Winword 2007 "run as an administrator" and then open the Restricted Access component. The Process starts fine, but I get the following prompt "…

Looking for Single Sign on (SSO) solution
by Guest Francois PIETTE- 2 replies

Hi ! I'm looking for a single sign on (SSO) solution suitable for an hospital environment. I has to be based on Active Directory. It has to control/automate login in Windows, Outlook, web (IE) applications and many classical Windows applications. Ideally it would make use of XP fast user switching. I would like to have an autenthication device working with proximity detector (RFID, BlueTooth or whatever technology). Any idea about commercial or open source product ? -- Francois PIETTE http://www.overbyte.be

Constant stream of UDP packets from same four addresses...

I need some help with the following... My router has been blocking a steady stream of UDP packets from the same four IP addresses. This has been going on for several days now. Here is an extract from the router's log. This same sequence repeats itself "ad infinitum" ;-) [iNFO] Sun Apr 20 15:25:11 2008 Blocked incoming UDP packet from 207.118.109.219:50197 to 76.xxx.xxx.xxx:38043 [iNFO] Sun Apr 20 15:25:05 2008 Blocked incoming UDP packet from 75.167.206.47:29547 to 76.xxx.xxx.xxx:38043 [iNFO] Sun Apr 20 15:24:53 2008 Blocked incoming UDP packet from 71.54.69.146:14853 to 76.xxx.xxx.xxx:38043 [iNFO] Sun Apr 20 15:24:51 2008 Blocked incoming UDP packe…

thesource.ofallevil.com ?

What's this? A phishing site? http://thesource.ofallevil.com/communities....vista.security It has Live-ID log-in, but the dns name and IP-addy aren't Redmond's, but Theplanet.com, a web host in Houston. The Live-ID log-in button takes you to live.com, but the log-in doesn't work. Or is it just a geeky joke, hence the site name? JJ

Re: COM registration failures
by Guest writeraj- 0 replies

I dont see a good clarity or t the point answer to the problem. Vista has some really kind of user prompt and disabling the services / commands in the name of security. So it does. To avoid this dll / COM registration problem, 1. Go to Programs - > Accesories - > Right click on Command Prompt shortcut. Click on Run as Administrator. (this will allow spcial Admin previledge to the commands running from this window, you can see the idea built in in VISTA of hacking admin rights even if you dont have the permission) 2. Run the same command from the DOS prompt you used to register the dll, REGSVR32 "dllname" this should work perfectly. mes…

Re: mrtstub.exe
by Guest superc- 1 reply

It would probably be really helpful (why is this text so tiny?) if Microsoft published the entire list of files associated with Defender and other MS products, including the temporary ones. Right now my machine's ProcessGuard had trapped and disallowed many new files which keep trying to run. MrT, mrtstub, mpsigstub, etc. Only today does a time consuming search of Google identify many of them as good MS files (vs Bad MS files such as Alexa or Messenger or the remote access files). Not doing so creates the wrong atmosphere by implying the files existence should be hidden from the machine owner least he realize it is spyware. Of course once the customer…

Why isn't UAC more fine grained?
by Guest HotmailUser- 5 replies
When UAC kicks in for some reason, you can optionally choose to view more details where that dialog displays what looks like a long hexadecimal string - I haven't confirmed whether it is valid hexadecimal. The point is, its probably some kind of ID for that particular instance of UAC kicking in. Why isn't that string selectable so that it can be copied to the clipboard? Is that string stored as part of a log that UAC maintains? Thanks.

I just upgraded my laptop from XP to Vista to find that every time I open Windows Update. I get the images, but no text, and none of the buttons work either. Anything that is Windows Update related behaves like this. My laptop is clean of all viruses and such, so I don't know what it would be. I've restarted my laptop a few times and the same thing keeps happening. Here's some screenshots on what I'm talking about... Vista Home UAC prevents installation of programs/Elevation dialog not shown
by Guest Anthony Wieser- 1 reply

I've had a customer have problems installing our program RIP Vinyl (www.ripvinyl.com) on his Vista Home system, but haven't had this from any of our other users. This customer reports that our installer (a wrapper that runs msiexec) gives the error return 1625 which translates as ERROR_INSTALL_PACKAGE_REJECTED As it's not possible (so far as I know) to set a security policy under Vista Home, that doesn't seem to be the problem. I offered to help him via microsoft messenger, but when he tried to install that, he got the same error message, so it's obviously a problem with his system configuration, and not our installer. In the end he resolved the pr…

Hello, I cannot open and listen to music samples. A message window appears and disappears before I could read what it says, and even when I click on "open in new window" the window shuts down in one second without opening the content. I have already set the security settings to allow or ask before allowing just about everything, accepted pop-ups, switched off the secure mode, checked whether temporary files are in the right place, and restarted my laptop. Yet my problem remains. Could someone help me with a suggestion in a very detailed style and simple language? (I don't understand any of the jargon used here) Many thanks, -- Barbara
