I need to use the net use command in a batch file that will be run automatically, to ensure that a mapped drive is connected. My question is, how can I avoid having the password to the mapped share appear in plain text in the batch file? Thanks.

by Guest Ruud Uphoff- 4 replies

Hi, I've the following problem when attempting to export a e-mail client certificate. “The associated private key is marked as not exportable†This happens after installing the certificate regardless the authority. I tried: - Verisign: They don't know - CaCert" tried to teach me the procedure I know already but does not work. - Thawte They don't know - Commodo: they don't know. I'm not the only person having this problem, as "same problem here" is the only and frequently response in forums of the authorities. Is there, PLEASE, :-) someone who assumes nothing but just knows what is the problem with Vista? (and a possible solution) Kind Rega…

by Guest Sirtokalott- 2 replies

I use Live Messenger and a file sent to me was blocked. I have a wireless adapter and connect to my neighbours router (yes she gave me the access code) and I ussualy have a wireless connection logo in the system tray. When I started up the pc the other night I had an extra icon showing a cable connection to another computer. I also now have a modem installed in device manager. I think it is my neighbours computer which I am connecting to but aint to sure as neither of us is experts. The pc is also running much slower now. I'd love to know of anyway of identifying a deliberate attack from someone. Here's what the modem log says. 04-06-2008 21:59:19…

Permissions problewms
by Guest Chuck Brotman- 0 replies

I keep running into situations with newly installed programs (for structural reasons I have my program files folder on a partition labed "P:") When I install a program I am asked for UAC permission. Once installed, it runs fine, until I reboot! After rebooting my shortcuts to the newly installed program are generic and cannot access the program folder. nor can I get to it witrh explorer. I can go in and manually resedt the permissions to allow acess, but I don't understand how this is all "supposed" to work. Can someone point me to documentation that explains the "proper use" in this situation?? Why does it work initially but not subsequently? …

How can I confirm that BitLocker is indeed turned off? Microsoft provides the instructions below, but this is after it has been on. I see no BitLocker options under Control Panel, Security. Thanks, Alan From: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows...id=2537#BKMK_S7 Scenario 5: Turning off BitLocker Drive Encryption Scenario 5 describes how to turn off BitLocker Drive Encryption and decrypt the volume. The procedure is the same for all BitLocker Drive Encryption configurations on TPM-equipped computers and computers without a compatible TPM. When you turn off BitLocker, you can choose to either disable BitLocker temporarily, or to decrypt the d…

SetFileInformationByHandle never works
by Guest mkaufma@gmail.com- 0 replies

Hi, I'm not sure this is the correct newsgroup for my question, so please tell me if I'm wrong to send it here. I creates a small program that creates a file handle on an existing file using CreateFile function. After creating the handle the program tries to set FileRenameInfo or FileDispositionInfo for the file but the function always fails with ACCESS_DENIED. I tried many combinations of CreateFile parameters, but none worked for me yet. Are there specific parameters to use for creating the handle when using SetFileInformationByHandle?

Blocked start-up programs
by Guest varuna21- 8 replies

Hello, i have vista home basic. Recently I've had to block a start-up program because for some reason it was not letting me view web pages (I don't get it - I had to call HP tech support and they walked me through it). So my internet viewer is working just fine, no prob. But now a window comes up constantly in the lower right-hand corner saying "Windows has block start-up programs - click here to view programs." How do I get this window from popping up all the time? It's really annoying. Thanks!

Suddenly I get this message and Win Defender doesn't start. I tried to restore the system, but nothing changed I downloaded Defender from Microsoft's site in order to reinstall it, but it says Vista already contains Defender, so I don't need to install it. There is no way to disinstall it and re-install it, so how can I solve the problem?

Windows Defender won't autostart
by Guest Andrew- 2 replies
Reposted with additional information because last post didn't yield a solution. System: Vista Business Edition, avast! free edition, Windows Firewall. One Care is not being used, and !avast is the only run-time AV. Windows Defender is set to Auto-start. At start up, Security Centre gives me the message that Windows Defender is not turned on, despite it being set to auto-start. Using Security Centre to turn on WD results in a 5 mins+ search for updates, then it returns a message saying no updates are available, and WD is still turned off. However WD starts from the "All Programs" menu with no problems. Any ideas anyone? TIA Andrew

In this article http://www.claymania.com/panic.html it says:- You have probably come to this page because your computer is not working properly. You may have heard that things named computer viruses can cause computers to act abnormally, and now you think you have a virus. Before you go ahead... Do NOT panic!! This is very important. Having a virus basically means that there is a program on your computer that doesn't belong there. It's this simple, so really there is no need to panic. In fact, a panicking user can be much more dangerous than any virus! Users often cause more damage while attempting to exterminate a virus than the virus itself could …

Stopping standard user actions using run as admin
by Guest Geylan- 2 replies

I would like to use regedit as well as find a way to turn off that family safety reminder/viewing on a standard account. But everytime I use the "run as admin" it does it to that "admin" account not the standard account user. Is there a way to run admin like actions such as stop change of desktop, icons, delete temp, history, etc for a standard user? I know i have to run as admin but that only lets me change "admin" accounts settings. Also I would like to install a game under this standard account but it puts all the files, folders, into my admin account not the standard account user. I found that out as I was trying to run the game under standard account. I …

by Guest Bill B- 8 replies

Windows Defender has found a "Backdoor:Win32 Agent" but when I ask to have it removed I receive error '0x80501001', couldn't complete the action successfully. I have located the file on my external hard drive and have tried to delete it manually (using right click from the mouse). Apparently the file is successfully deleted but when I go back into the folder it has re-appeared. Can anyone help me get rid of this file?
