ghost icon on memory stick
by Guest ianh68- 2 replies
Whenever I copy a file from my hard drive to my memory stick a ghost icon (looks like a foggy CD) appears on the stick instead of the yellow folder. I can't open the ghost icon and I can't delete it either. If I try and delete it disappears then reappears a few seconds later. Is it a virus? Is the stick corrupted?

Dean Dean - you are a life saver. I have no idea how you would know of that fix but the problem was driving me batty. I followed your instructions and presto! Thanks also for including that I needed to run the command at least 3 times. I would have given up without that small piece of info. Thanks again "dean-dean" wrote: <span style="color:blue"> > Try this: > > Right-click Command Prompt and Run as Administrator. sdchange.exe.mui File
by Guest TheShadow- 2 replies

Lately my system is requiring a disk check about twice a week or so. When the check is run it finds errors. Namely the error I seem to see is that the file sdchange.exe.mui is orphaned. It moves the file from the sector, it fixes the entry then moves the file back to the sector 7237 of the disk. In a few days this happens again in the exact same manner. This seemed to start immediately after SP1 Install for Vista Ultimate. MBSA Script Error
by Guest avallach- 3 replies

I'm a noob...I just installed Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 2.0.1, selected a group of servers to run against, and let it go. Once finished, everything looked well & good except for when I try to view the report on one server (of course, the one I care about the most). As soon as I click on the report, I get: Internet Explorer Script Error An error has occurred in the script on this page. Line: 70 Char: 5 Error: Object Required Code: 0 URL: file:///C:/Program&20Files/Microsoft%20Baseline%20Security%20Analyzer%202/rÂeport.html Do you want to continue running scripts on this page? Whether I click Yes or No, I get a blank wind…

CAs: Enterprise root on parent domain, subordinate on child domain
by Guest Mark Z.- 2 replies

We want an infrastructure involving two CAs, an enterprise root CA on the parent domain and a subordinate CA to do all the work on the child domain. 1. Right now we're decomissioning our Enterprise Root off of the PDC on our Forest Root domain and want to create a brand new Enterprise Root CA on its own server. 2. On the child domain we want to build a subordinate CA and do all of the cert publishing off that box (nothing is on the parent domain which is also the forest root). 3. After the subordinate CA is set up, we can just power off the Enterprise root CA, correct? What about security updates? 4. What is the proper setup for this chain to work?…

Some of the folders in our file system contain sensitive financial data. The file server is managed by our IT department. How do I restrict the people in Domain Admins group (some of them are from IT Department) from accessing sensitive data? If I remove read permissions to Domain Admins, backup jobs may fail

SP1 and Fingerprint Scanner
by Guest Sabian Smith- 1 reply

I just installed SP1 on my Sony Vaio laptop (Vista Business Edition) and everything is working right.. except the fingerprint scanner. I can no longer "single swipe" a fingerprint to get me past BIOS AND into Windows. It always stops at the Windows Login screen, forcing me to click a username and swipe again (or manually type in domain password). In Protector Suite QL Control Center, I verified the following items are checked: "Allow to bypass windows login" and "allow power on security single sign-on" . I upgraded to latest version of Protector Suite QL (5.80) and device driver for the UPEK biometric scanner (1.9.2.111) - no difference. Anyone els…

I originally posted this to m.p.w.v.general I'm hoping someone out there can help me troubleshoot this weird issue. We recently switched our two developer laptops to Vista Business with SP1, on an Windows Server 2003 Active Directory domain. We're getting ready to roll out some new software to our users and need to 'sign' the binaries. On my Vista laptop I went to http://DomainController/certsrv and got a message about Web Install for certificates needing an update on the server to support Vista and Server 2008 clients. So, on the server I installed KB922706. On my laptop, I went back to http://DomainController/certsrv and started the process of re…

by Guest Roland- 1 reply

Hi, This is proberly a known issue but I can't find the solution... My new Vista64 machine lives in my domain and thus connects to our Small Business Server (2003). Like any other computer, on logon a script runs "setup.exe" and sets up connections to network drives. On each startup Vista reports this a security-issue and I need to give permission..... Annoying! How do I solve this?

"include in CDP" extention error - Reproducible error:
by Guest Kristin L. Griffin- 1 reply

Hi Folks, I have been messing around with the PKIView tool to figure out what makes it tick. I understand that if I make changes to the AIA and CDP extensions in the Cert Auth Properties, that I have to re-issue the CAExch cert because PKIView uses the data in that cert to show status of these locations. However, I have found something else that makes PKIView show errors. And I dont understand it. The error is reproducible. It has to do with the "Include in the CDP extension of issued certificates" check box for http URL entries for the CDP extension area of the Cert Auth Properties. In the help file it states that you "check this box if you…
