An IE reset deletes all favorites?
by Guest SR_1- 0 replies
Hi - I was in the process of troubleshooting a browser issue for a user. I went to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced and clicked the RESET button. Now all of his favorites are gone. I was under the impression that the Favorites stayed intact, and according to the info below it should not have been removed. Any ideas what happened? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Reset-Internet-Explorer-8-settings By resetting Internet Explorer settings, you return it to the state it was in when it was first installed on your computer. This is useful for troubleshooting problems that might be caused by settings that were changed after installation…

I was trying to update my I tunes the other day and Quick time as well. When i get an error from both of them with out any numbers or what not so I don't know what is wrong with it. but it tells me the software it needs to come up and run this doesn't want to come up and run it. My father who grew up learning on the old computers where you had to type in all the commands doesn't even know how to fix this problem either. I did what I tunes page said to do to fix error's and it still doesn't work. So now I have no I tunes what so ever to use and no way of knowing how to fix this what so ever. Should i force my old computer to update to window's 7 for a bit before I force…

Issues Starting Windows XP
by Guest VicariousToast- 0 replies

The first thing I need to say is that I know very little about computers. So, I tried to turn my computer on a few hours ago, and it seemed to be having multiple issues starting up. My computer is a Toshiba M45 Satellite laptop. I am running Windows XP Home Edition, and I believe that it's SP3 (It could possibly be SP2.). I downloaded a few demos on my mom's computer, transferred them onto a flash drive, plugged the flash drive into my laptop, and started it up. When it turned on, there was a blue screen (I don't think it was the Blue Screen of Death, it seems like it was a darker shade of blue.), that said something about my registry, and my hard drive being corrupted …

MS Office 2010 All Programs Crash On Start Up
by Guest Peode- 0 replies
MS Office 2010 Home and Student Have had this program installed and working fine on this computer for over a year now. The program now is crashing once it is past the loading screen, whether I try Excel, Word, etc. I have tried opening in Safe Mode, and it acknowledges that I'm doing so with the warning window, but crashes when I hit ok. No other errors pop up when the program crashes. I've tried to contact support, but I am unable to get the Product ID #, as the automatic search on the website is unable to find it, and the support's suggestion to find it involves opening the program to retrieve it, which I cannot do. Any ideas of what may have happened to the progr…

I added Microsoft Security Essentials after a fresh install of WinXP Pro. It ran fine for a couple of months but all of a sudden there were surges in my cpu usage. MspEng.exe is the culprit. I can barely do any work now as it has gotten worse and uses all or most of my cpu all of the time now. HELP! What is it, where is it what does it do and how do I get it to act right or make it go away? Continue reading...

CHKDSK runs at every startup - cannot turn off!
by Guest BCS Sys Admins- 0 replies

Guys, i need some assistance. i recently used an application to deploy a CHKDSK command to run at startup and it worked....worked too well! Now on every boot up it runs the CHKDSK utility. I have followed articles online such as http://www.winvistaclub.com/t20.html to rectify the issue but to no avail. Here is the interesting part. Once the PC has booted up, whether i login or not, the PC shutsdown, reboots and runs CHKDSK again. It has never dome this before and is only starting to do it since i deployued the CHKDSK on startup. Currently there is nothing in the HKLM\...Run or RunOnce keys. The HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager Boot Execute val…

MSE significantly slows computer processing speed
by Guest TheOman- 0 replies

Just quickly, this doesn't have any relation to the listed topics, and is related to system performance. Over the past week, I have noticed that MSE has not automatically started, and notifies me that I should manually restart the service; when I do this it takes a few minutes to respond, and will usually return to normal. Yesterday however, I did the same several times, with no apparent response; after a few minutes each time, it would respond with an error message which I did not record, but more or less 'MSE was unable to start'. After these few attempts, I re-installed MSE, and there have been no apparent problems with starting the service since. What is problemat…

WDS not joining computer to domain using settings from ImageUnattended.xml file
by Guest Hollidaeus- 0 replies
I know I must be missing something relatively simple on this problem but I'm sort of stumped. I've configured my boot image and my Windows 7 Professional Install image. I've configured and validated the two XML unattended scripts in WSIM; the first one for the PXE boot portion of the setup and the second for the imaging (OOBE) portion of the setup. My Image XML is being processed and working, at least portions are. My problem is that the computer name and AD account aren't being configured properly; they're being configured by the "AD DS" settings in the Properties sheet of the server and not the settings in the Image Unattended XML. I've watched the install process …
