<COPYPROFILE> and network accounts....
by Guest ji3yrd- 0 replies

Using a newly installed OS, I've customized a default profile using the Administrator account and used the <copyprofile> in sysprep to successfully move it over to the Default user account. I then moved forward and added the machine to the domain to log on as a domain admin account used to create images - our "Image" account. From there, I connected to the network resources to add what needed to be added and then removed the machine from the domain and logged into the Administrator account.... here is where I think I am running into an issue. When the machine is joined to the domain, the default domain policy changes the Administrator account to another name. This i…

Having trouble removing Alureon.A
by Guest CVilleBerg- 0 replies
Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool first brought Alureon.A to my attention. The scan seemed to indicate it was "partially removed", whatever that means. The other programs I have, McAfee and Windows Defender, seemed to not notice it. Alureon seems to be preventing an Automatic Update from Windows. (Not all updates, just a specific update. It's being referred to as an Error FFFFFFFE.) I recently downloaded Security Essentials, hoping this might fix the problem. It tells me the removal action was applied successfully, but at the same time says that some threats could not be removed. What can be done to permanently remove or quarantine Alureon? Continue rea…

Metro IE 10 picks wrong compatibility?
by Guest Christopher DiPierro- 0 replies

If I run desktop IE and navigate to a website I created, it seems to display it in an IE6 like fashion. I can, however, go to the F12 developer tools, change the compatibility mode to IE10 and document mode to standard and it displays as expected. However, in Metro IE10, I don't have this ability. How can I tell IE10 what mode to choose from my HTML? Continue reading...

Bing tab popping up
by Guest SC Tom- 0 replies

I installed Win8 CP the other day on a spare HDD that I have for my laptop, and after finagling a few drivers, I have it up and running acceptably. I'm kinda getting the hang of the new UI (even though I would prefer the old Start Menu), but one very irksome thing I finally found a solution to is in IE10. When I open IE from the Desktop, my Google homepage comes up, then a Bing page comes up on the next tab. I only have one homepage in IE Options, and it's set to come up on that. I read an article about adding another search provider in Manage Add-ons. . . I opened Manage Add-ons, and on the Search Provider tab, the only site listed is Bing. I clicked on the "Find more s…

Proxy config
by Guest Ritmo2k- 0 replies

I understand when fast user switching is disabled and a Credential Provider invokes a browser, the user this browser runs under is the context associated with the CP but the environment is that of the LocalSystem Account. In this scenario, what options exist to force a proxy configuration for the browser? Some environments utilize DNS/DHCP/WPAD versus GPO's which certainly don't work in this scenario. Thanks for any insight or clarification! Continue reading...

IE8 gives "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" when uploading file using fileUpload,...
by Guest gmoney67- 0 replies

Hello, I just ran into this problem when my company switched our computers to windows 7, which means also using IE 8. I am getting complaints by users regarding a tool that my team supports. One aspect of the tool is that it takes in a specified xml file, parses the data, and adds the data to a database. This tool worked as expected in IE 7, however when using IE 8 this portion of the tool seems to be broken (or just quirky, more on that later). The file concerning this function is a jsp file, however I am using an HTML form to use fileUpload. Once the user selects a file, it is validated (to make sure it starts with a letter, colon, \ i.e. "C:\user\file.xml"). The f…

For Windows 7, is there a way to tell Windows upon first boot to load/install the Ethernet Controller driver first before any other drivers? For our image, we have Windows automatically search and install drivers if for ex the hard drive has been placed in different hardware. There's seems to be a certain order that drivers are searched for and installed (alphabetically i think). I've tried using the DevicePath method (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731664(WS.10).aspx) and this does not affect which driver installs first, etc. Continue reading...

My Win 7 PC just will not boot
by Guest manishd_2000- 0 replies

Yesterday my PC just stopped working while I was in the middle of something. And now everytime it comes up with a screen in black and white which says "Windows Boot Manager" A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. If you have a Windows installation disc, insert the disc and restart your computer. Click "Repair your computer," and then choose a recovery tool. Otherwise, to start windows so you can investigate further, press the ENTER key to display the boot menu, press F8 for Advanced Boot Options, and select last known good. If you understand w…

Microsoft fix it 50195 just hanging
by Guest BCarrie- 0 replies

Bought a new laptop months ago and had all favorites and other files transferred from old system. Discovered that favorites will not allow me to add new favorites and if I try to create a new folder, I get a message that I'm not authorized or don't have access. On a couple of instances I worked my way around it but the folder and or content would be deleted after a reboot. I'm running Microsoft fix it 50195 and it seems to be just hanging. However, I did go to IE and create a new folder. The progress bar on 50195 isn't moving -- says please wait. Continue reading...

screen blacks out when clicking on my e-mail program, and on trying to open programs
by Guest lincoln84- 0 replies

When trying to open programs and getting to my e-mail program in Yahoo, the screen goes black. Also when trying to click into Mozilla Firefox, it continued to crash. So I took it out along with the Picasa program and the Flash player. I thought maybe the entire thing may be corrupted. So I was going to reload the programs. I wasn't on my computer at all yesterday, and after starting it up today, all kinds of problems. I know on Wednesday, when clicking on some of the Hearts apps in Facebook, the warning came on for jacking info and or scammer alert from my Malware program. So I hit the report button in the box and then everything froze at times so I couldn't access a lot…

Automatic Switching between tabs in IE9
by Guest tmiller112- 0 replies
Does anyone know of a tool that will automatic cycle between open tabs in IE9 (or IE8) at some sort of interval (30 seconds for example)? I found such a tool for Firefox, but I'm displaying things that will only display properly in IE. I also found a tool that will simply rotate between open programs (alt tab), which could work by just having two separate IE's running, however I need to show the 2 pages in full screen mode, and for some reason the alt-tab tool is not working when one of my screens is in full screen mode. I also find that I can only have one IE window in full screen mode at a time. All the tabs on that particular window will be full screen mode, but i…

32bit Internet Exlporer in 64bit Windows complains about WebDav connection, 32bit Windows does...
by Guest VgerNYC- 0 replies

i did not notice this before but we use a web based product called BlackBoard. BlackBoard serves it files over WebDav apparently. I noticed in 64bit Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 that 32bit Internet Explorer 8.0 and 9.0 complain that the WebDav connection is using basic authentication and that I should look up http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2123563 for how to work around it. However I do not get this in 32 bit Windows 7 with IE 8.0 or 9.0. All instances are running 32bit Office 2010 with latest patches. Why is 64bit Windows pickier about WebDav than 32bit Windows???
