    Gcse's!

Yeah, I'm not so worried about the reading, because all you have to really do is memorise a number of phrases and questions and then regurgitate them in some form on paper lol... but yeah, the listening is going to turn me into a nervous wreck. We've done billions (well, not quite) of practise ones in class, and the vast majority of them are on really scratchy and jumpy tapes that play way too fast. You don't get a chance to take any of it in... But after reading this, I do feel a little reassurred.

    Gcse's!

Okay, so this is just pretty much a simple question, but has anyone here taken a German GCSE, and if so, how difficult was it? Starting today I'm now officially off school for the next three weeks or so, but I can't even begin to think about Christmas, because I know that the closer Christmas gets, the closer I am to going back to school, and the first week back I've got a German mock exam. It sound ridiculous, I know, but it's so off putting and distracting from everything else. I'm taking it a year early (I didn't really have any say in the matter!) and if I don't get at least a C in this mock (could scrape with a D, I suppose) chances are I won't be entered in the real thing, and it's really stressing me out. It doesn't help that I have some very competitive friends who simply make the matter worse. I don't care whether or not I get the highest grade in our little group, but they always make it sound like it does, and then I have to listen to them going on for hours about how amazing they are! I haven't got the real exam until March/April time, which gives me plenty of time to revise for that, but the mock seems so damn close and my German grammar and sentence strucure is generally appalling (IMO, at least.), and I feel like I have a tonne of revision to get through in the space of a couple of weeks. It really takes away from the whole Christmas vibe. My teacher seem to think I'll be fine seeing as I'm pretty much the only one in our class who's had experience of early subjects in year 9 (English language, A, General Studies, B) but that was with subjects I was a little more familiar with, and my parents feel it's far too late for me to back out of this now. It's not the only subject I have to take this year either, it falls right on top of english literature, media studies, Btech sport theory and IT. It means I'll have less to do next year, but even so, I feel like I'm steadily sinking underneath a huge pile of coursework and revison notes... I am aware there are far bigger problems in the world than this, just wanted some opinions and advice Anyway, I'm just digressing now, but back to the German - has anyone else done it?
  3. The old Spice Girls were awesome, I used to love them. I was a ninenties kid. ...But, alas, they've changed. Gerry's just no the same, Mel C doesn't do the backflips, and Emma Bunton just doesn't look like 'Baby' Spice anymore. Not to mention Posh. God, she stands behind the mic stand, and you can't see her anymore. I don't know how she keeps popping out babies, you'd think she'd just explode like something out of one of th Alien movies...
  4. Rhianna is just plain awful. Her voice is just... ick... and on all her songs they've got mass repetition of words, just to try and stick it in peoples heads because it's the only god damn way she'll sell anything... Well, to most people anyway. The brain-dead idiots who just lap up whatever anyone tells them is 'cool' will buy her stuff anyway.
  5. Waiting would seem safer... and lucky you with your boyfriend! I really need to find someone who can do tattoos...
  6. We put down animals all the time, and they never give their consent. They can't, obviously, so people just decide for them... But this is people we're talking about, so I definately agree with the fact that they have to give their consent and all that, but doesn't that mean that attempted suicide cases should be able to refuse treatement, even though they may not want it? I don't know what it's like in other countries, but most places people are treated regardless of whether they want to be or not.
  7. Yeah, they did... mind you, wasn't that one of those things where you could vote on myspace or am I getting muddled now?
  8. I did look to see if there was a thread about this already... I couldn't find one, and I did search, and couldn't find one (much to my dismay - sometimes people are offended by n00bs creating threads :-P ) But I was wondering if anyone else here is going to see them in the UK next year? I'm going to the 02 gig on the 29th of January - quite simply the best birthday present any of my friends have ever bought me! And does anyone know the setlist yet?
  9. I had to go for Evanescence, because I've been into them longer, but Lacuna Coil are a pretty close second. The only thing that bugs me about Ev is that anyone else in the band is always sitting in the shadow of Amy Lee. I saw them live last year, and the guys seemed like they didn't know what to do when Amy wasn't on stage and preparing the piano... they just looked awkward.
  10. I guess Stone Sour. I like them both, but I like a lot of SS softer songs.
  11. 1. Quite rarely... the occasional sip of someone else's if I'm dying of thirst... doesn't usually help. 2. I really don't like the taste (or the smell, for that matter - especially if someone kisses you or breathes on you after they've drunk alcohol, I just find it horrible!) 3. UK - 18, but I dunno about it being 5 or above to drink in a private area, I thought anyone at anyy age could drink, just as long as it was on their own land?
  12. I've never been bothered about having a mass of space on my MP3 (well, technically it's one of those walkman phones) so I just change my song line-up every so often, but if I were you, I'd wouldn't pick the iPhone, it's been hyped-up too much and cost too much for what it actually is... and you always end up tied into those annoying contracts you can't get out of for a year or two...
  13. Well, they deserve something, I'll say that much.
  14. Hybrid Theory - it's the first, and you can't beat it... in my opinion, anyway, followed by Meteora and then MTM. I liked them all, but Minutes comes 3rd because I preffered the old LP formula - Mike rapping, the riffs, and then Chester switing between singing and then screaming the bridges, etc. I know that the sound had to change because nobody wanted a hat trick of the same old thing, but when Qwerty was released, even though it wasn't going to be on the album, I just expected MTM to be heavier than it turned out.
