1988 Silverado!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys so I figured Id post this here so everyone can see. Its a 1988 Chevy Silverado that me and my dad restored. Just finished painting last night. Once a week or too goes by Ill have it together and Ill post some more pictures. Its a 350 TBI 5.7L engine. We did 3 base coats of grey, 3 coats of black then toped it all off with 2 coats of clear. Looks good to me. Just need to give it a few days then do some wet sanding then a polish! What do you think??f832eba52f4c43c232a2a130016f3384.thumb.jpg.be9a05aeac17495c6c48e2813af2ca8e.jpg

I have some vortec heads and edelbrock intake sitting around for it. Just not sure if I really want to change it to carburated. If not I was also looking at a single turbo system. Still puts out great power and they are actually pretty affordable. And thanks !

Oh these things were rusted right out. We just put a lot of time and money into them. Welded up the panels and some body filler and they were ready to paint. My brothers white one above has a little rust bubble coming through on the drivers door. Is kinda a piss of since it has about 1000kms on it since it was fully restored. But it was sat in a shed for 10 years after restoration until he was able to drive it.

^^x2. Yes they are hard to beat. Such nice old trucks. We sure do have a lot of old things around here. My dad even still has his 57 dodge from when he was 14 that he fully restored. More pics to come soon guys... :threadworthlesswithoutpics: I just need to paint up the door handles and get them on and this bit** is road legal

I have a real affinity for old Ford trucks myself. I almost bought a 78 bronco from a buddy but found out he wrecked it drunkenly off roading it (it was way to nice to offroad in too!).

I will say I miss my old stick shift F250 tho, 300 inline 6 could haul some serious weight but was slower than a sloth lol.

hahaha yea I don't think very many old stock trucks are what you'd call speed demons. But damn they are nice looking. And yea CJM I really like the old broncos too! I don't think Id be ever allowed to get one as my Dad hates fords but they are sweet old trucks and often easily made mudders. A lot of Bronco diggers around my area!

haha that's awesome. My buddy has about 6 in his field. Some have been rolled and the rest field bagged I hear and they still drive one that they threw a done up 351 in it. He says all the ones in the field do run so maybe they just don't die lol.

Update on the 88! Got everything put together tonight, (loooong night) so now we decided to add a black pinstripe down the side and some box rails. Needs a good wash then those both can go on. One step closer !

...pics tomorrow or the next day that's a promise!

Yea I like it the way it sits too. But I think A black pinstripe down the side will really make it stand out. The sides just look a bit bare in my opinion. Just something me and my dad agreed would look good. But as it sits now Im really happy how it turned out.

  • 2 weeks later...
Truck looks great man! You should do the old style pinstripe that has the heartbeat in it. I always thought that looked cool and was subtle. And it will look even better when you get a chance to update the front end with lights and maybe a clean grill. Great job on the truck!

thanks man. Yea we did a pinstripe on it now, we just didn't do the heartbeat thing. My brothers has that on it tho. Or something like it anyways...and as far as the new grill and headlights go I was thinking of doing that over the winter when its sitting inside anyways. Then Ill have all winter to put it back together...first snowfall and this things parked in the shop all winter lol.

I had a customer with a red 85 several years back. The body was mint, but he needed a drivetrain update. I yanked the carbureted 305, built a 383 for it (350 punched .030 over with a 400 SBC crank and rods), and dropped an edelbrock TBI manifold and throttle body with a Vortec blower. I yanked the TH350 trans and put in a simple TH400 with a shift kit. I swung out the rear highway gears for .373s. The truck looked amazing and ran hard. It was one of my favorite complete builds in the shop. I built several race cars, but to me the complete transformation of that gorgeous truck really stood out. The guy spent a shit ton of money, but the outcome was awesome.
