Firefighters were called to a trailer home at 24 Pleasant Valley Drive in Stratford at about 2 a.m. Tuesday. Firefighters said that by the time they arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames and crews were not able to save the two adults and one 12-year-old child who were inside. Witnesses said the 18-year-old son of one of the victims was at a nearby house and tried running back into the trailer to rescue his father, his father's girlfriend and his sister, but he was unable to get in. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to Lancaster Hospital, according to fire officials. Fire officials said they believe the family became trapped in the building because of a doorway that was blocked by snow and ice. The names of the victims have not been released. Investigators said the fire is not considered suspicious. They believe it started in an area near a wood stove, and they're trying to determine whether the stove was installed properly. "What we're finding is basically it was placed too close to combustibles," Deputy Fire Marshal John Southwell said. "There weren't clearances to the floor. There weren't clearances from the side walls. Those are things we're looking at." This is the second fatal fire in New Hampshire this week. On Easter Sunday, a mother and her two daughters died in Franklin when their carriage house caught fire.
