A n00b's guide to everything

So you've registered to LPF and you can't wait to get posting, but first there are a few things you should know about.

Uploading a picture

For a picture to show up on the forum you first have to upload it onto the internet, and obtain a url for it. So, when you have a picture you want to upload, save it onto your computer and upload it at any of the following sites:

http://www.imageshack.us/index.php Maximum image size 1024KB. Extensions allowed: .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .gif, .swf

http://www.clausercorp.com/uploader/ Maximum file size is 500 KB. extensions allowed .gif .bmp .jpg .doc .xls .zip .rar .jpeg .ngs .png .PNG .GIF .JPG .JPEG .HTM .htm .HTML .html

http://www.photobucket.com/ 250 KB file size limit; Extensions allowed: .jpg, .png, .gif, .bmp (You are required to log on to upload on this one)

http://www.freeimageupload.net/ Allowed image types: .gif .jpg .jpeg .pjpeg .png .bmp .swf (Flash); Maximum filesize of 500 KB

http://www.uploadimages.net/index.php Maximum allowed file size: 1024 KB, File types allowed: JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, PSD, PSP

http://www.uploadyourimages.com/ File size limit: 500 KB; File extensions allowed: .jpg .jpeg .gif .png

http://www.zippyimages.com/ File size limit: 1024 KB; Extensions allowed: .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png, .swf

You can also attach an image to your reply by uploading from your machine, like so:

Scroll down to this:

Click manage attachments.

Then click on browse (#1) and chose the image you want to attach. Click open and then click Upload (#2)

Then just sumbit your reply and a thumbnail will be attached to your post.

Uploading Media

You can upload media through these services:

YouSendIt Max file size is 1GB

RapidShare Max file size is 100MB

As always make sure to follow copyright laws when posting media.

Posting an image

Use this when posting an image on your signature field or when posting a reply to a thread:

[ img]www.url_of_image.com[ /img]

Always use the [ img][ /img] tags when posting a picture. But without the spaces between the in the '[ img]' and '[ img]' tags

Avatars

The image's dimensions have to be 100 pixles x 100 pixels, and a file size of 19.5KB, nothing greater than that. To add an avatar to go 'User CP' and click on 'Edit avatar' at the left side of the screen. Paste the URL of your image, pick one from the LPF gallery or upload from your computer.

Signature Images

The maximum size of a signature image is 500 x 175. Nothing greater than that is allowed. To edit your signature go to 'User CP' and click on 'Edit signature'.

Miscellaneous

To make your link appear as text like this use this:

[ url=your']www.site_you_want_to_link_to.com]your text[ /url]'

Without the spaces between "[ url]" and "[ /url]"

To make your images a link use this:

[ url=[']www.site_you_want_to_link_to.com][ img]www.url_of_image.jpeg[ /img][ /url]

Again, without the spaces between '[ url]', '[ /url]', '[ img]', and '[ /img]'

Referrals

You get a referral when you tell someone about the forums, and they join. At the bottom of the registration form there is a field where they are able to type in the name of the person who referred them to the site.

Reputation

The reputation system is an easy system to understand. Positive rep is given to those who contribute to the site or have made worthwhile and well thought out posts. In short, it gives some recognition to those who deserve it. In the other hand, negative rep is given to post which are either spam, bashful or inappropriate.

How to give rep.

When you see a post you think deserves some rep all you have to do is click this little button which is located at the left of each post:

This will bring up a pop-up which asks you to choose between positive rep, or negative rep. Choose which one you'd like to give and also add a comment, if you'd like.

How to check your reputation

To check your most recent rep, go to 'User CP' at the top of the page. You then will see a box which says 'Latest Reputation Received'

To see your total amount of rep go to 'Edit Options' at the left of user CP and scroll down to 'Show My Reputation Level'

Member's Colors

You may have noticed some member's screen names are different colors, here's what they mean:

Orange: Newscasters

||-- You acheive this by providing LPF with news about LP and FM. Pretty much just overall news.

Red: Administrators

||-- You get this by.. well, *you* don't really get it. Unless you buy the site.

Green: Elite Members

||-- This is given to members who have contributed to the forums a lot. Valuable members would be an appropriate name. This is where you should strive to be.

Olive: Moderator

||-- You must prove yourself worthy to get this rank. Only the best of the best are given the honor to moderate.

Blue: Site Owner

||-- Just like administrator, you must purchase the site.
