Activist, DeRay McKesson is running for mayor of Baltimore. BALTIMORE — There was one moment during protests in Ferguson, Missouri, when DeRay Mckesson says he feared a casual gesture might cost him life. According to Mckesson, the incident occurred in the first few days of the demonstrations that engulfed the city following the August 9, 2014 shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown by a Ferguson cop.
