foretrax
Allright guys i just bought a DASA exhaust off of immortal ATV :headbang: and i know the best thing to do is run withouth a lid on my airbox. The problem is that i ride in really muddy really wet areas and i'm afraid that i will suck in a ton of water. does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to keep the water out of the airbox? Thanks All Quote http://450rhq.com/data/MetaMirrorCache/b455c23f27ab6660d9fb8f1ddca3a9ba.jpg Sponsors GoPro SteelMX HookIt
Guest Deven
Some people buy a filter cover. A few make them. Let's more air in then the stock lid but filters etc. Dirt and grime out. It would.be a great secondary protection. For the life of me I cannot recall the company.

foretrax
that looks good for excess dust but does it really keep water out? it says its water resistant but if i'm riding through a creek will it still keep the water out? i watched the video of it getting water dumped on it and it keeps the water out but will it work that good when theres a suction pulling the water down. with the lip on the edges i don't know how well the water will come off the filter. StonedInNy
outerwear makes one that fits over the box instead of the lid. I use to use one it works well. ridingred
i'm also thinking about getting one of these. If only to keep my filter clean longer. My filter gets filthy and it gets cleaned after every ride. My friend has a yfz and with the outerwears lid, his filter stays clean and all he has to do is just wash the lid off. How much do they cut back on airflow compared to running no lid? Fastlane225
If all your worried about is the water you can take the rubber piece off the and drill a few extra holes in the bottom of the air box so the water will drain before it gets to the filter, plus I'd think you'd pretty much have to spray the water directly into the intake for any to make it all the way to the motor. I use the outerwears the goes over the air box and it works really good 1 Quote I'm not totally useless, I can be used as a bad example
airmobile101
EHS Racing makes one ! Works pretty good !! Thats probably the best one out there. I modded my lid. I moreless just cut the entire inside of the lid out, and then ran Uni filter( the bulk stuff) under the lid. The filter will stay as long as you cut it a little larger than the air box, then you just oil up the filter and use the lid to clamp it down. gunny
that looks good tim. nice idea. do they sell just sheets of it? i just cut the lid like airmobile and siliconed/staple pantyhose to it. it is water resistant and you can spray airfilter oil on it to make it more water resistant. and when it gets dirty, take it off and put a new piece on. Yes sir! You can buy that stuff in sheets. They make the stuff thicker also. I usually will spray it down with Uni fliter oil and then slap it on. ridingred
THIS IS the best advise out there.. simple and efective... not really, if you drill holes in the bottom the air box, guess what you just did, you created areas for water to come in. Usually the water on mine splashes in from the top of the air box so when it comes in it's already going over the filter and then falling down to the bottom of the box. Yes you don't want water to be trapped in the box, but you also don't want to create more avenues for the water to come in from the bottom. foretrax
where i ride i ended up with a 1/2gallon of water in my motor on my 400ex with the lid on. it gets pretty bad out there. needless to say my 400 didn't run too good on the way back to the truck If all your worried about is the water you can take the rubber piece off the and drill a few extra holes in the bottom of the air box so the water will drain before it gets to the filter, plus I'd think you'd pretty much have to spray the water directly into the intake for any to make it all the way to the motor. alanbmx
They had it on the dyno and called me, asked me how attached was I to the lid, told me it looked really cool but it was "killing my horse power" they did not say how much. I had just finished it when I brought it to them and when I got it back from them I never put it back on Quote http://450rhq.com/data/MetaMirrorCache/92ac89484251c63d73340458b54ac18b.jpg By alanbmx at 2012-04-

airmobile101
Heres my home made job! lol http://www.offtopic.forum/uploads/imported/2012/05/00325-1.jpg That center section might be a HP killer if it was siliconed into place, you can't see it, but there is about a 1/2 gap between the center piece of the air box and the filter, so the air box lid is actually using the entire section that I had cut out and the center section. Also, if you look to the front latches, there is more lid that you can remove if need be. I like alanbmx's lid. It still has enough material where you can hog it out more than what is shown.
