Huge Protest in Iraq Demands US Withdraw
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/041007J.shtml
Tens of thousands of protesters loyal to Muqtada al-Sadr, the Shiite
cleric, took to the streets of the holy city of Najaf on Monday in an
extraordinarily disciplined rally to demand an end to the American
military presence in Iraq, burning American flags and chanting "Death
to America!"
Baghdad Becomes Deadlier Battleground for US Troops
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/041007K.shtml
There is no sign that the new US security push in Baghdad is
accomplishing its main purpose: to create an island of stability in
which Sunni Arabs, Shiite Arabs and Kurds can learn to run the country
together. For American troops, Baghdad has become a deadlier
battleground as they have poured into the capital to confront Sunni
and Shiite militias on their home streets.
Waxman Wants Rice to Testify on Niger Uranium Claims
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/041007L.shtml
House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Henry Waxman wants
Condoleezza Rice to discuss what she knew about the assertion that
Iraq tried to buy uranium before the US invasion. The claim, which has
since been proved false, was the basis for a now notorious line in
President Bush's 2003 State of the Union address to justify the
invasion of Iraq. The claim also eventually led to the outing of
Valerie Plame, a covert CIA agent who has already testified before
Waxman's committee.
Senators Press for More Files on Fired Prosecutors
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/041007M.shtml
Four senators said Monday they suspected that the Justice Department
had failed to turn over all relevant documents related to the
dismissals of eight US attorneys.
Scandal Puts Spotlight on Christian Law School

Monica Goodling, the former top aide to Attorney General Alberto
Gonzales, is at the center of the storm over the firing of US
attorneys. Goodling, who resigned on Friday, has become the face of
Regent University School of Law overnight. Founded by televangelist
Pat Robertson, more than 150 Regent University alumni have been hired
to federal government positions since President Bush took office in
2001. This practice has drawn a harsh spotlight to the
administration's hiring of officials educated at smaller, conservative
schools with sometimes marginal academic reputations.
Protesters Decry War-Supply Shipments
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/041007O.shtml
About 100 veterans and anti-war activists gathered at the Port of
Oakland on Saturday. Carrying signs reading "Stop the War Machine,"
protesters called on the port to spend some of its $33 billion budget
on Oakland schools, health care, and social services, and to stop
shipping military supplies that support the war in Iraq.
George Monbiot | Deniers Dish Out Climate Change Censorship
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/041007P.shtml
George Monbiot writes: "The drafting of reports by the world's
pre-eminent group of climate scientists is an odd process. For months,
scientists contributing to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change tussle over the evidence. Nothing gets published unless it
achieves consensus. This means that the panel's reports are
conservative - even timid. It also means that they are as trustworthy
as a scientific document can be. Then, when all is settled among the
scientists, the politicians sweep in and seek to excise from the
summaries anything that threatens their interests."
