Best and Worst bands you have seen live!

After the incredivle Carling Weekend, where essentially get pissed and see some overhyped (but occasionly really good) bands play

Here is my run down of what I saw

Fri 24 Aug – Carling Weekend: Reading Festival

After expecting a terribly wet and overly crowded camp site I was pleasently suprised when I arrived to a mostly dry and spacious camp! Major posetive.

But for the bands.

Friday:

Little Man Tate ---MAIN STAGE--

-No real idea on why we decided to see this band as I really don't like them. Their performance was competent

I guess but nothing more. 3/10

The Long Blondes ---MAIN STAGE---

-Dissapointing set from a band I really like, they just

aren't suited for the main stage and probably should of

billed higher up a smaller stage. 4/10

Gogol Bordello ----MAIN STAGE---

-Truley entertaining and got the crowd going nuts, loved

the set and choice of songs. The fire bucket at the

end was class as were the on stage antics, as per usual

they live up as being one of the best current live bands. 10/10

Jimmy Eat World ---Main Stage--

-Pretty good but slightly uninspiring set 6/10

The Gossip ---Main Stage---

The only thing I remember of this show was Beth taking

off her clothes... again.... but then again I could of

been thinking of another show. 5/10

Maximo Park ---Main Stage---

I enjoyed this show alot, good choice of songs and

reasonably good energy. 7/10

Interpol ---Main Stage---

Annoyingly bland performance 4/10

Kings of Leon --- Main Stage--

Prety much what I expected, I never really expected them

to be brilliant but they were very good still. But they

did make some questionable choices in song. 7.5/10

Patrick Wolf ---Carling Stage---

THIS WAS THE SHIT! I loved it so much, I danced to every

song, it was packed tight yet managed to get to the

front. The only flaw in this set? WHERE WAS PARIS!

10/10

---SATURDAY---

Pete & The Pirates

They had one pretty good song that I enjoyed, didnt

know what exactly to expect but they were just ANOTHER

indie band. 4/10

Eisley

They had sound problems from the word go, took forever

to set up and were generally boring. 1.75/10

Eagles of Death Metal

No QOTSA but suprisingly fun and really got the crowd

going despite the really low placement on the set.

7/10

The Shins

I was smoking a spliff and laying down in the sun

and it was one of the most enjoyable sets. Just because

it was something to chill out to and was perfect for

the weather. 8/10

Angels & Airwaves

I was too lazy/stoned to move on from my spot so I

stayed.... worst mistake of my life. Not only is this

band possibly the most boring band to ever play live

in the history of playing music live the vocalist is

the biggest twat living. If I had a penny for every

time he said fuck or said something "funny" I would

of been able to afford alot more donuts. AWFUL! Any

fan that saw this car crash and remains a fan should

be checked for brain damage, good amount of bottles

though. -4/10

Tokyo Police Club

Fantastic atmosphere and crowd, great performance too

got to hear some new songs and they sounded pretty

good. Looking forward to their full debut. 7.5/10

Bloc Party

They were pretty good but just aren't a main stage

band. Its such a shame as I had high hopes for this

set. 4/10

Bifrfy Clyro

SHIT at Wembly, brilliant here, the set was brilliant

the crowd was really into it & I mean REALLY into it!

9/10

!!!

For me the most fun I have ever had at any live music

event. They were incredible, the vocalist was so much

fun! The dancing was great as was the crowd the music

& sound was pretty much perfect. SHOW OF THE WEEKEND

10/10

Hot Hot Heat

Somewhat dissapointing but the crowd and enthusiasm

shown by the band made up for that. 7/10

Sunday

--------

Hadouken

Suprisingly good to listen to live but that doesnt

make up for the fact all of their songs sound almost

identical to each other. 6/10

Billy Talent

Wasn't that impressed. 5/10

The Maccabees

Not that big of a fan. I always liked them mind you and

this performance has improved my opinion of them alot.

Real success story too! 8.5/10

Cold War Kids

BOOOORING BOOOOORING, actually saw people leaving

constantly. They are just not a good live band. 2/10

Jamie T

Some of the songs were too up tempo but the killer

performance of Salvador made me feel brilliant. 7/10

Nine Inch Nails

Very impressive, loved the bass and Hurt was brillaint

as was Wish... duh! 9/10

The Smashing Pumpkins

I didnt expect much from them to be honest, I love the

band but was jusat expecting

a major let down. I was wrong! Tonight Tonight was

brilliant and Billy was just as self arrogant as ever.

8.5/10

Right thats for the weekend, anyways amongst this mesh of bands include my faviroute and the worst pile of shit I have ever seen!

Right best live bands:

1) !!! - Incredible fun, his non serious dancing makes everyone fall in love with the band

not to mention their music is just taylored for a party. You cant not move and everyone

in the crowd was smiling.

2) Muse - Don't like them on record that much but they are just an awe enducing live band

(sorry toxic)

3) Gogol Bordello - Gyspy dancing? Starting to thrust the stage hand off of the stage for trying

to steal your bucket? NOW THESE ARE PERFORMERS!

Worst Live Bands:

1) Angels & Airwaves - Has to be said I didnt think I could hate this band anymore then I do

my passion and hate for them had subsided since they sort of been gone for ages but the anal

cunt face lead man proved to everyone (including his own fans) he is a cunt and has some sort

of stunted vocabullary.... which involves Fuck, Fucked & Fucking. The fact the last 2 songs clocked

in at 10minutes each & even their own fans started booing them sort of shows you a band that

ya'know cant live without a producer.

2) Kate Nash - She is 1 song performer! Her other songs were so boring and had no impact that

I started looking at Foundations as if it was this years masterpiece.... this isn't a good sign.

3) Eisley - For making me actually fall asleep in the tent and making me miss Blood Red Shoes

(this is not a lie)

On another note what band have you seen which you have been suprised by?: Muse for one thing

but as I was walking to the carling stage on Sunday I decided to see Fallout Boy as it seemed quite

fun..... it was and I stayed for the last 3 songs.... I enjoyed it!

Yay Muse!!!! :D Somehow I have to agree with you there... you shoulda gone to see Ash on Friday, GIRL FROM MARS!!!1

And you already know my views on AVA, he shoulda stayed with Blink =( And I hate Kate Nash and her stupid accent saying stuff like "fittarrrr" and "bittarrrrr" >_<

Oh and from what I saw on telly Bloc Party were aceee so shove your 4! The fact that they played This Modern Love alone is worth atleast a 6! marhar! ^^

Of my bleak experience of live gigs I'd say the best acts were Muse and the Foo Fighters.

Worst would have to be AVA and The Strokes (they were just boring).

Surprise would be Eagles Of Death Metal, no one had heard of them at the time and they were just really fun and Josh Homme had black hair and looked like Elvis ^^

i still love you, girl from mars.

No, I joined in the botteling

Something I often disagree with but on this occasion it was needed. Even my friend who loved Blink said he turned into a right twat.

I forgot to include of Montreal.... the chography was brilliant and you would wish more bands would be a little more entertaining on stage!

Sunset Rubdown and Do Make Say Think are both bands I want to see live, I will be seeing Animal Collective later this year, how are they live?

I forgot to give props to Berg Sans Nipple opening up for Do May Say Think because they were also nearly as wonderful live. Especially for just two dudes and all that sound.

As for Animal Collective, just go there expecting a weird fun-loving experience and you'll be fine. You probably will hear nothing but new material as per usual.

Muse = Best live band, EVER! Seriously, I have never seen a better live band, they really get the crowd going, and sound amazing! Muse makes me proud to be British! :D

As for Kate Nash, I agree with Alison! Kate is just a stupid dumbarse chav girl who's after a fast buck.. Hearing her makes me skin crawl >_> 'fittarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!' *Shudders*

If I was British, the first band I'd be gloating on having is Radiohead. Having put out two universally known masterpieces like Kid A and OK Computer and all.

Yea man, Muse are down the pecking order when it comes to celebrated bands the UK have produced over the years.

I know I'm gonna get well abused for saying this but I prefer Muse to Radiohead! I dunno, I know Muse got alot of influence from Thom and co but I just find Muse more enjoyable and more edgy than Radiohead, who have a tendency to just plod along at times which can get a bit boring.

But then again I am slightly biased being a massive Muse fan and all haha.

I haven't been to many, but the best was sigur rós

lots of families came, it was a happy summer evening really. people were mesmerized over the music, especially the more dedicated fans (it was a free concert)

only low point was not their fault, they broke the high E on the rhythm guitar during the climax of the 2nd track, Glósóli. so it started kinda bad but they came back strong. some people were in tears during some songs actually...

they finished off with many fans' favorite, Popplagið, pulling the curtain back up during the 2nd half of it, with their silhouettes magnified and the backdrop of a montage of chaotic images. the song itself is enough but with that along with it, oh dear god.

the worst band...I could name a few bad Ive seen but I don't think anyone's heard of them

And I'm one of many big Radiohead fans that has always had the popular inborn biased hate for Muse. And I will agree, Muse was originally highly influenced by Radiohead circa The Bends and OK Computer. But no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't come up with anything remotely as astonishing. Hardly anybody liked them. The press hated Muse, England hated Muse, Radiohead fans hated Muse. Only thing that saved them was Radiohead hating to be Radiohead. Radiohead were the edgy innovating ones being that they always want to shake things up and explore new sounds with each album they've made. Muse couldn't follow where they went despite the fact they too were trying to be somewhat experimental with different instrumentation. So coincedentally, when Muse began to roll down their own road, they started getting some positive feedback. However, since modern rock fans in America are oblivious to it all, Muse has always had a market. And they sit comfortably in a market that also enjoys Taking Back Sunday, Fall Out Boy, etc. Nowadays mainstream England and Europe alike likes them a good deal and all is just fine. And good for them because they deserve it. They are far from being a bad band. It's just they won't go down in history as one of the all time greats. Radiohead will.

-------------

PS: Radiohead has taken a very long time trying to craft LP7. I hope it comes out great because obviously they haven't been happy with certain things. I'm glad that they feel they don't have to rush to put anything out until they're 100% ready. I think they realized that Hail To The Thief wasn't their kind of album and that many of their fans put alot of pressure on them to go back to the old days and older sounds.

I still have a place for Muse, nowa days they write the good indie disco floorfiller (despite not being indie) they are also an introductury band. By that I mean they are a band that currently occupy the UK charts with devestating effect without sounding like anoter british guitar band & for me they were a band that sort of shifted me deeper into music to find something that resembled their sound. I still believe that given maturity they do have the ability to craft a very good record it's just they haven't done it yet. Matt Belamy has an incredible voice both on record and live but it's just a few things that stop them, their image is pretty cheesey as is their sound at times but when they mature and truley find their sound that isn't radioheads it could be a pleasent suprise.

Muse are supernova I saw them amongst 60,000 other people with supoort from 3 bands that carry their own weight, most notably MCR (terrible live btw) Biffy Clyro and Shy Child. They have done very well for themselves and have won over alot of people & will go down in history but not in the same way as Radiohead will.

Another big thing that holds Muse back is their lyrics. That's a huge weakness. And it's too bad because Bellamy has a great range and is a great musician. It's just their cheese-factor is just too in your face with that bombastic imagery. He needs to come back down to Earth for a little while.
