Good luck NEW ORLEANS. And all you others affected by this hopefully not too bad a night. My hopes are there.

Definately got to follow up with another good luck to New Orleans, even though it's going to fill up like a soup bowl!

I heard in the news there is a guy on Brbon street with his bar still open. So anybody in that area that wants a drink should pay him a visit!! lol

I live in almost as far North as you can get in Louisiana and they're talking about turning our school gymnasium into a temporary shelter...So, it's gotta be really bad down there if people are coming up this far.

I think they were down-playing it all on the news to begin with. It's so bad, we have like the smallest school in Louisiana and there's like 50 people coming to our school temporarily...

I love NO (only city I would ever move to) and my heart goes out to all the peope there (never met a gumbo or a person I didn't adore in that city) It's gonna be a long haul but I believe they WILL rebuild and be just as good as ever.

Hopefully. It can't be helping any that the water is still flowing into New Orleans though. I wonder how long it's going to take them to get all of that water out. They said 20 feet deep in some places and still rising. :(

Aparently the water level has stopped rising but the levey is still wide open and no pumps (or fire heidrants for that matter) are working

I heard, on the news, that if all the pumps were working as they usually were, with no more water pumping in at all, it would take months to clear it all out.

They just came out and said it will be months for people to go back some will NEVER be able to rebuild

They're on T.V. now saying it's our worst natural disaster ever..I know I don't know much about rebuilding when it comes to New Orleans, but just by the looks of it, I'd say a LONG time. These people are saying a few months. I HIGHLY doubt it.

Hundreds feared dead on storm-ravaged U.S. coast
I wouldn't doubt it if it's more than that. I'm still wondering about the above ground tombs and what has become of them. I don't know much about how they work, but I'd assume the caskets would begin to pop out eventually due to all the pressure...I dunno.

The tombs go often. They just end up either floting around or dumping out. (they take remains out to put new ones in when they run out of room) It's always a .little "thrilleresque" when graveyard floods. Hey, at least the remains can go back to earth as they should in teh first place

Yeah, I just learned about that about 2 years ago. It's just that it would be messed up if they were cleaning up once they actually got all the water out and they found dead bodies from the tombs...

Tomorrow I plan on going through all my daughter's clothes from teh past two years that don't fit and finding anyone who can get them to the surviving children of Katrina. My heartis breaking. I HATE not being able to do anything. Tomorrow I will. I have a bag of my own clothing as well and I am sure I can find more. Summer is near over here and there are a lot of things my daughter has that won't fit next year. GODS I wish I could express what I am feeling for these people.

Yeah, this band that I love. A local band is having a concert this weekend and they're donating half of everything they get to it. They're also taking up clothes, food, and money donations...They're awesome. :)

I'm a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles (F.O.E.#1834) , and everything it stands for when not being the GF **** that I am, and I'm also the kitchen chef and volunteer staff supervisor, for my towns Aerie. We are also organizing relief efforts in our area and taking donations. I know that America did a GREAT job during the Tsunami relief efforts, I hope people can look past the price gougers and looters to do there part to help these people too.

The best way though is NOT through local means, we have been encouraging contributions to the organization of your choice to ensure that all possible aid is received quickly and without an additional layer of administration.

I have heard word that the local Fire co. (across the street) is once again going to open it's doors as a collection station for goods and donations. I am hoping to get over there to help out after dropping off. I know our local EKS are helping out but I can't get them on teh fone (busy ALL day).
