black screen on start up with cursor

hi have a HP compaq 6910p notebook with windows xp home,my computer starts up I see the HP logo and say something about intel then its stay black screen with a blinking cursor nothing else happens.I tried to repair useing the disk that came with the notebook can't,try ti install widows xp again cant says Im missing the hard drive,even use the restore back to the orginal state still wont work.Went into bios and did hard drive test all test pass.
So what do I do HELP Please
