Prisoner Flees After Md. Hospital Shooting
Wednesday, January 2, 2008
LAUREL, Md. -- A prisoner broke loose and fled Wednesday after he was taken
to the hospital, and there were reports that shots were fired in the
building but no reports of injuries, authorities said.
Laurel Regional Hospital was placed on lockdown as police searched for the
prisoner, Prince George's County fire and emergency management spokesman
Mark Brady told Washington radio station WTOP.
The prisoner apparently managed to overpower a guard and get hold of a
firearm during the hospital visit, Brady said. Brady says shots were fired,
perhaps as the prisoner attempted to get out of shackles.
Police did not immediately release a description of the prisoner.
In November, a prisoner escaped from the Laurel hospital after taking a
state trooper's gun and firing shots. He was captured hours later following
an intense search.
